Well today was an eventful day in the Smash community :P

It's a shame Takamaru didn't get onto the roster but an AT is certainly better than nothing. Maybe he will have a shot next time :)

Rather than sulk about could've and should've been, let's take a moment to appreciate the playable characters we do have with some cool fanart:

Yeah but from a usability perspective...it makes sense not to have 2 characters in one. All I'm saying is that it seemed like Sakurai was going with a very clean design for the roster as a result of the split of the "joint" characters, and then suddenly he muddles the mixture by making a clone that is similar to her counterpart again. I don't know, we'll see. I feel like we are still limited on our knowledge of Lucina.

Lucina's pretty clear cut as a character. She's a clone of Marth with slightly different properties.

The bolded statement looks to me like a leap from "split characters" to "clean roster" without a single statement of intent from Sakurai to back it up.

Lol!

Wow, so much drama over one character.
Is there anyone like me, who doesn't care about newcomers at all?
Everyone truly relevant is in since melee anyways, I just play the character that feels the best to me. And if thats Hello Kitty or something, then so be it.

Probably not lol. Time heals all wounds...eventually.

Of course there are people like you, but a lot of us don't consider every important character in, and I personally don't consider Melee to have all the important characters - it doesn't have Olimar, Wario, Diddy, Metaknight or Dedede for a start.

The day I completely stop caring about newcomers is the day when Ridley and K. Rool are announced.

I think one of the following will happen

1- Picking a dlc character prevents his or her assist trophy/pokeball from showing

2- Dlc will only be picked from characters that aren't assist trophies/pokeball, this doesn't seem as likely though as who the hell would be left?

3- Every character in the cast can show up as an assist trophy if someone isn't playing as them, which would kind of time into my first suggestion and make it not a problem

4- if a dlc character is an assist/pokeball, then if you buy them they are pulled from the games potential AT and replaced with a replacement ala if Ashley ends up as DLC then her devil minion replaces her as an assist trophy

I'd love to see any of these happen to get Waluigi/Dillon/now Takamaru, but I still doubt this'll happen. It'd take too much work.

As much as I wanted Takamaru this time, and even though Smash 5'll probably come out 10 years from now, there's still the chance that between this, Nintendo Land, & Murasame Castle being on the worldwide VC despite the service's weak state hardly getting us Super Mario Bros. 3 (Will never not be salty over that yearlong wait), if there's not something already Takamaru-related down the pipeline, there will be. Maybe he'll get revived ala Pit or Little Mac, and by the time Smash 5 comes around he goes from "cool idea" to "shoo-in," plus a potentially great game, based on the 2 aforementioned revivals?

Also, I like Heath's new avatar; what's wrong with it?

What's gonna happen if Isaac is revealed this week as an assist trophy?

Sakurai will be posting the remainder of his PoTD's from a secure bunker after all the death threats silly people send him

Fake edit: Will probably be an angry mob with pitchforks and torches instead of death threats

I kind of wonder if non-Tecmo Koei companies see Samurai as internationally appealing anymore in the first place.
I was wondering about that actually. Playing through Bravely Default and noticed that the guy who looks a lot like a samurai, instead his class is called Swordmaster. I mean, FF had the Samurai class before so I just assumed...

No new DK stage has been shown for either version, neither Dixie nor K. Rool have been deconfirmed, none of the new items/trophies/Assist Trophies have been from the DK franchise, and green Kritters were literally the first enemies spotted in the Smash Run trailer, yet Nintendo hasn't drawn any attention to them. I find it odd how they showed off the Tiki Buzz during the enemy montage but completely ignored the Kremlings, who are both more recognizable and more prevalent in the aforementioned trailer. I'm starting to think that both Dixie and K. Rool will be revealed together in a future Direct, with Dixie being a Diddy clone similar to how Lucina is a clone of Math. #believe?

> Smash logo appears
> DK and Diddy are seen eating bananas and relaxing on a beach
> A faint image of Bowser's airship can be spotted in the distance, with the traditional music playing in the background
> Bowser is about to order an attack, when suddenly, the Gangplank Galleon music begins playing and cannonballs start raining from the sky
> The trailer breaks away to a shot of King K. Rool and his Kremling Krew cackling on their pirate ship as it heads towards the shore
> *King K. Rool sets sail!*
> K. Rool taunts the defeated Koopa King and announces that "only one overweight lizard is allowed to steal the banana hoard!"
> He grabs his blunderbuss and takes a shot at the kongs, missing narrowly. As a last resort, K. Rool decides to toss his crown at Diddy, not knowing that an angry Dixie Kong is about to arrive
> She bats away the royal projectile with her hair, then proceeds to fire her bubblegum gun with ferocious speed
> *Dixie Kong takes flight!*
> Trailer cuts away to a gameplay montage, then ends with a shot of Bowser, King K. Rool, Dedede, and Ganondorf fighting each other on Gangplank Galleon. Ridley's theme can be heard in the background for literally two seconds before the trailer ends

Valkyries get dragoon abilities and lances, but look like weirdo aliens. That game just has a weird class naming/style convention.

I think we're only going to get one or the other unfortunately, though I do think DK should have 4 reps due to it's increased popularity recently.

At this point I'm pretty convinced that Ridley is in, now I just need atleat K. Rool and everything will be fine.

I'll be honest

some of my breakfast came up while reading this

I'd lower that to 50% if I were you.
I'm fully convinced he's not in.

There is absolutely nothing pointing to him in Smash.

It seems extremely evident Shulk is in the new Xenoblade Chronicles X game and the voice actor secret project is either that or some other random game.

Regarding DLC, I doubt we'll see any of the Assist Trophies, Poké Balls, or bosses as playable characters. Sakurai consciously designed those characters as NPCs for this game -- he seems like a really prudent person, and he probably had the foresight to set aside a group of low priority characters as potential DLC (like Mewtwo and Dixie Kong). Just imagine Brawl's "Forbidden Seven" but on a console that supports DLC.

What? Why do you think Shulk is in the new game? How would that even work?! From what we know, it appears to take place in a different universe, or it's not connected to the previous game at least. And, of course, there's the Gematsu leak, which had been almost entirely accurate so far...

But Gematsu leak aside, I think Shulk makes sense in the same way that Ness made sense in the original Smash Bros. His game may not have been the most popular, but it was a cult hit and a sequel is in development. Plus, Monolith Soft helped work on Brawl, so there's some developer connection there. Ness was in a similar position for Smash 64, with EarthBound 64 in development and the fact that HAL Laboratories, who worked on EarthBound, made Super Smash Bros.

Isn't he in the trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles X?

Every newcomer so far has had a stage from their franchise, or some sort of hint that they'd be in the game. Everyone but the original 3, obviously, since picture of the day did not exist before them.

Mario galaxy stage > Rosalina
Boxing Ring > Little mac
Arena Ferox > Lucina/Robin
Galaga/PFlag > Pac-Man
Palutena's Temple > Palutena
Tomodachi/Find Mii > Mii Fighters
Lumiose City > Greninja

We've had absolutely zero content from xenoblade shown off, not even an item. That said, there's still time to reveal more stages and items. Galaxy/Find Mii/Palutena's stage were all shown off later than original trailer and then we had newcomers later.

Doesn't mean it can't happen, though
