Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

Eh, I just can't see Lip being in, nor can I see Mewtwo and K.Rool (or atleast Dixie) not being in, DK has to get a new rep and Sakurai knows Mewtwo is a fan favourite.
I think Mewtwo has a good shot. K Rool would be good, but I don't think it's happening. Dixie seems likely enough.

I'll be a little surprised if we don't have a new character of any sort, but I don't know of anyone that would be a good fit.

I don't think Shulk is happening. Now that the leak can be wrong, the one part of it that was too good to be true is probably not true.

I know we probably don't have many more characters (there are already a bunch).

This week we already had a new assistant and a new stage. Tomorrow will probably be filler.

A boss would be cool, though. It's time to have a look at them.

"Watch out for Ridely on the Pyrosphere stage, he flies at random around the area and will occasionally swoop down to do damage (FYI this means he's a stage boss)."

It feels weird that you say that you're not crazy about characters that are just iterations pf the same character but then say that you are completely fine with Toon Link.

I get the sentiment, I just can't agree with it. Paper Mario has the ability to be a completely fresh addition to the roster, despite the fact that he's another Mario. Toon Link, while he has a different personality, for all intents and purposes is just another link, with the same moveset, even.

By that I mean characters who are literally the same person. It's not necessarily rational, and I do recognize that Paper Mario would be a neat addition, just having two Marios bothers me for some reason. It bothered me with Doc. And Tink doesn't bother me just because it makes more sense to me.

Again, I'm not rooting against it. I'm not the type to do that. But I think another character from PM that isn't already on the roster in another form would be more fun. I saw Bleck mentioned, and I think that'd work, what with his wormhole cape.

this is kind of why I don't want them to talk about stage bosses because I know they're going to fucking do this to me

If they ever include a playable Paper Mario character, it should be one of the companions from the first or the second game. Mario himself would feel redundant (like Toon Link).

(I usually don't like to post fanart, but you get the idea)

Yes. Yes.

and here is what I could see happening, but highly doubt because I'm not Sakurai. I kept Lip because I'm pretty certain Sakurai likes Panel de Pon.

Lip would be an instant main for me. I was just watching some panel de pon play and it's so super cute I could feel myself getting diabetes just viewing it :3

Tomorrow's PotD:

It's finally time to talk about items again! Today's item is a small, white furry creature known as the Baby Ridley. Throwing it at your opponents will get it angry, causing it evolve into a fully grown Ridley that will terrorize the battlefield! (FYI: Ridley is an item, suck it GAF)

well can't get anymore deconfirmed than that

I refuse to believe that Sakura would dance around Ridley's inclusion for an entire year only to reveal him as anything but a playable character, that is probably the worst possible payoff to it all.

And besides, the shadow analysis shows that the model they're using isn't too big to be playable.

I simply can't believe he'll just be a stage boss, it makes no sense in my mind that he would lead people a long for this long.

Looking on the positive side, at least this would mean that Sakurai is watching over us lol

Having plastic mimic fur is always gonna lead to it looking weird.
The Metroid Samus one is still the best.

Low expectations though. He's hinted at Ridley as a stage boss. In order to avoid disappointment, I'm just expecting a stage boss. If it's a ploy, then good. It worked and I'll be surprised. But I don't think it is. He probably thinks we'll be happy just to have Ridley in the game (which I'm not if he's a stage boss. Even a boss in SSE was cooler than that.)

SHADOW ANALYSIS

but yeah I don't think they would dance around him for this long to reveal he's a stage boss but you never know

anyone ever want a character in solely so they can get a better, up to date, picture

like chibi robo has zero transparent pictures on the internet

i wanted this with palutena and lucina

Sakurai said:
I don't like it when a tweet or whatever leads to needless speculation getting spread around," he wrote. "For example, when I tweet about playing some game, some people immediately get the idea that that character is in the new Smash Bros. Then people fan the flames on it, people start to think it's really true, people get angry about it. Nobody benefits.

Again, every single character that's been shown that has had a possibility of being playable has been deconfirmed either in the same post of very soon after, to avoid people getting their hopes up through speculation and being angry with the outcome.

That quote doesn't sound like the sort of person who would tease the most wanted character inclusion since melee for a year only to reveal him as a boss character.

So many expensive memory cards.. lol

Well, theres something going on with Ridley.. If he is a simple stage boss, why its model wasn't show back in the direct?

Maybe its an inside joke or something.. :p

Interesting stage choice. Seems crazy that we've been shown four Mario stages for the 3DS version already but no new Kirby or Donkey Kong stages for either version. What gives?

Sakurai wants some things to be left to be discovered by the player. He has only detailed two of the bosses so far and even so one was still rather cryptic.

So how would a Mr Game and Watch figure work exactly?

Carboard cut-out on the back of happy meal boxes.

Or, Less jokingly, a game and watch with him doing a pose on the screen? either that or he'd be flat but "thick" so to speak, like a cardboard cutout with really thick card.

I'm losing hope that they don't get the shaft again. So many locations from both that would work fantastically, and we'll end up being lucky to get another Green Greens redux with added generic tropical locale for DK.

What's the deal with the fan in the background? Is that something from SPM or Sticker Star?

I only played the first two Paper Marios because that's what God intended.

Although I'm intrigued this is a 3DS stage. I wonder if there will be a Paper Mario Wii U stage, or if both games will have this level. It seems like a popular concept that brings a lot of music and flair to only have in one game.

In Sticker Star, you have "super stickers" (don't know what they're actually called) that you get when you turn some objects that you find a long the way into stickers. You can use them to manipulate the environment, and the fan is on of them.

Oh, and go play Super Paper Mario. It's a fantastic game, just different from PM1 and 2. Even the title makes that clear. I mean, Super Mario Bros. is different from Mario Bros., isnt it?
Sadly the same thing can't be said about Sticker Star, though, with a certain mindset, even that game is still enjoyable.
