Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

I think we'll see all the newcomers. They wouldn't have prepared the kind of videos they have prepared if there was no intention to show them. Newcomers are advertising. There could be some veterans we don't see (Mewtwo pls) but we should know all of the new fighters before release.

If this is the case, I'd say we have about one or two more newcomer videos. They could have more than one newcomer showcased in them, though.

I just can't wait to see the full roster. There's going to be a lot of disappointment; I personally think it's going to be below a lot of people's estimates, but I'm at a point where I'm fine with whatever.

I think once I know the roster I can really feel like "whelp, this is the next smash". I'm pretty tired of all the speculation to be honest. I feel like the closer we get to the full roster, the more people start pulling for more random and less likely characters, only setting themselves up for disappointment. I mean, I'm already seeing it myself with Issac. I'm perfectly content with the roster, but since we don't know what's left, I find myself wanting stuff I was fine not having before. It's a slippery slope.

With the roster stuff it's just anxious anticipation, I don't feel like I can properly get excited until I know all my favorite smash characters are safe.

I'm a dork.

Due to rumors, I don't think character speculations will ever ended because people would assume that we are getting DLC characters. I don't know if we would get DLC characters because I have a gut feeling that we mightn't.

So next potd is duck hunt dog assist trophy

I would be okay with that since it's way better than what dog have gotten for last two games. I meant Ducks were a sticker in Brawl, and a trophy in Melee. Dog got nothing.

Those Miiverse pics on the last page was some of the best stuff I've seen ever regarding Smash Bros. MC Hammer Kirby, Lady Falcon, Rosalina & Ice Climbers at the movies, Super Smash Summer Scramble, LETS DAANZ, Mario the contracted clean up crew for the Inklings (this really needs to be a thing like how Mario's the ref in the OG Punch-Out), "Bair and Nair" and Captain Jigglypuff are too good.

I feel we'll probably have people dig into the 3DS and find out if there are DLC spaces, right?

Depends on the kind of DLC, there may not be an infrastructure in place to support it. I don't think Mario U, for example, was designed to have Luigi U DLC, but they rewrote parts of the game to allow it. That might only be possible on Wii U, though, so who knows.

I believe its possible on the 3DS.

Bug fixing is basically rewritting parts of the game, and it was done in pokemon and mario kart

Those didn't change things like the UI, though. Who's to say what the extent of their 'patching' allows on 3DS. I assume if they can fix a core bug that they can also fix the UI, but who knows.

...realistic damage? :D

If whenever you landed macs punch the whole background went dark and you could see the other players skull breaking in slow motion before being sent off in the distance, I would just love it, it would just be amazingly hilarious compared to the rest of the game's general tone.

It would never happen and would limit the audience for the game, so it's about as likely as an MK character being in Sm4sh.
One day, sub-zero, one day

I feel like we arent paying attention to enough of these

Miiverse is funny and not just in a "pls sakurai" kinda way

I learned that I would pay a great deal for M.C hammer kirby

Wait, didn't I read in one of this threads that corocoro was going to showcase the entire roster in their August issue? When does that come out? Wouldn't Nintendo need to reveal everything before then anyways?

Just a recap of every characters so far, so if Sakurai and company decides to have hidden unlockable characters for the game, Corocoro aren't revealing that.

You can change the UI via a patch, if they're smart at all they'd have a system where an update is just the files that have been updated and downloading them would copy them over the current source files.

I highly doubt they'd go the needlessly complicated route and make it so only specific parts of the game can be patched, that's just making more work for yourself.

Well, from what I heard that it is pretty tough to crack 3DS files. I don't think people would able to crack to see the files since someone already had tough time to do with pokemon models. We will see but I wouldn't expect anything tho.

Ethan needs to chill, he's making use Taka supporters look bad by association. :P

Some people already did good job few days ago.

The more people talk about Duck Hunt Dog the more sad I become that he likely isn't a newcomer.
Why? The leak seems to be legit. Of course we would have to wait and see, but let me tell you Koopalings/Bowser Jr. and Duck Hunt Dog would be the best things ever.

Both make sense. Most everyone that had a NES had Duck Hunt, and Nintendo has been primarely featuring the Koopalings and had them all in MK8 over other notable veterans like Diddy Kong and Birdo.

Plus them being able to be in the Koopa Car makes perfect sense aswell when you look at one of Bowser Jr's NSMB boss (forgot which one, but yall can probably find a picture) has Bowser Jr. In the Koopa Car with a shield over the top, meaning if they implement that, the hitboxes would remain the same for all Koopalings and Bowser Jr. The Koopa Car also has boxing gloves and would probably have a Bob-Omb or Bullet Bill attacks aswell.

Everyone seems to be ignoring the leak, which is whatever. But to me the idea of the Koopa Kids in the Koopa Car has really made perfect sense to me. Especially with how Nintendo has been promoting the Koopa Kids more and more.

Patching to add support for DLC is certainly possible on the 3DS. There are already games out that have done just that, and even some that have had additional entire modes added via patching.

... though, I guess, I can't really say for sure to what extent they were planned in advance because it's not like I could see the code

There's actually been a lot of progress on that front in terms of decrypting the file system just to see what's inside, even though yeah it's mainly for Pokemon because that's where the majority of the interest is. Smash Bros. could just as easily spark a revolution, though I imagine we'll see people dicking around with memory editing first, which could reveal some buried stuff.

If they can acess the game code to fix bugs, they can change everything thats not hardware related.

UI, models and things alike are just code at its core, so if they want, they can completely change the game.

Like project M, they changed the UI just with code

Why? The leak seems to be legit.

This is the part that I haven't seen or had explained yet. Why exactly does the leak seem to be legit? Why does it appear to be moreso than the dozens of others?

I would love Duck Hunt Dog, I really would. He makes perfect sense, and is arguably a far better retro comeback pick than the Ice Climbers because he requires nearly no introduction for the majority of NES owners. As you said, we all had Duck Hunt, everyone knew that damned dog. He's one of the most recognizable minor characters from that era because of that.

I feel like Duck Hunt Dog is one of the characters I can completely, absolutely, without-a-doubt say I'd be content with being an Assist Trophy for eternity. I'm kind of amazed he isn't already, actually.

I'm honestly wary with retro character assist trophies, seems like if the sprites are easily added in to smash (as in the original game had a similar view perspective), then he seems to just add in the sprites rather than actually make a 3D model for them.

I hated the 'retro' assist trophies in Brawl as well, they screamed lack of effort to me...

It's not legit yet until we started to see more evidences with that. I'm going to feel bad for those people's reputations when people found out that they might be fakers.

Really? That's good news since I would like to see who got cut before the game went gold like we did with Brawl.

Yeah Duck Hunt Dog should be failure assist trophy (like Goldeen) so he would appear and laughing.

Can't agree at all. Half the appeal for some of those trophies was in how they contrasted the (then) current characters. Also, I am inherently biased towards them because Lakitu was the most hype thing for me to find out about at random.

Duck Hunt is perfectly suited as an Assist Trophy. Imagine ducks flying around the stage with an AI-controlled crosshair moving around the screen trying to shoot them down -- characters caught in the crossfire would be damaged. Maybe the dog would pop up in the background whenever a character is hit.

Should be the ducks flying around doing damage and you can hit them to kill them, and if you fail the dog taunts you.
