My biggest problem with New Pork City was that its color scheme was so drab and so muddy that none of the characters read well against its backdrop at all. I have a Brawl Vault mod where the color scheme is brightened and all the background sprites are replaced with the vibrant original ones from Mother 3 and it's incredible how much better it makes it look.

I'm with you, I hated New Pork City. Far too large and it didn't really feel like a stage, just a hodge podge of random platforms and other background elements that, as a whole, didn't make much sense to me. Maybe that's because I've never played a Mother game, but I didn't care for it.
