Seriously? Dark Pit is about as unique as Dark Link. It is a palette swap turned into a character. Throwing smash movesets aside at least Dixie is visually different and has unique abilities.

Now that I think about it, i'd take Dark Link over Dark Pit. It'd be just as stupid but at least it'd be an additional rep on a more deserving franchise.

VIsually, yes, he's the same as dark pit, but at least dark pit has been fleshed out and was a key point of the plot in KI:U. You insult dark pit.

DHD doesn't even have a trophy in Melee or Brawl (there is only a trophy of two ducks). I don't know how he could go from being totally unrecognized to being a brand new character. The heavy fan-service is one of the biggest reasons that I don't trust this leak.

I believe if DHD is playable, it has a lot to do with Sakurai possibly wanting to add a more realistic animal fighter to the roster. The only basis I have for that belief is his mentioning of Nintendog and Villager as characters that wouldn't fit as fighters. It's possible DHD allows for him to include an animal fighter that doesn't clash thematically with rest of the cast.

Somebody hasn't played Uprising lol. Dark Link is barely even a character. Dixie even has less personality than Dark Pit.

Anyway, after the apparent treatment of Returns and Tropical Freeze in these new games, can we finally say "Sakurai hates Retro Studios"?

I always assumed the high quantity of KIU content directly related to Sakurai having extremely easy and recent access to all the designs, assets & staff that worked on that game.


He was quite literally already planning the first concept of SSB4 while working on KIU.

One character being infinitely better than another is mostly an opinion. Point is Dixie Kong has been around since the SNES and it's a shame she's still not in Smash Bros. Especially now that DKC is back thanks to Retro. We're past the point where Nintendo didn't know what to do with DK after Rare left.

I'm fine with all the Kid Icarus content and don't mind that it got this much. However, DK should have gotten better than...that.

Still a little too early to say, though.

You gotta consider that the DKC games weren't even really that big of a deal over in Japan and there's not that much content you could even reasonably derive from them, aside from music (which we get in spades!)

You could add Dixie or Cranky Kong and there's unique stuff they could do but I feel like they don't stand out in the same way every other Smash character does. I think they'd be cool in Smash but I don't really expect them. I feel the same about Bowser Jr. and Dark Pit.

While he's visually unappealing, he at least has a personality and plays a part in a game's story. If he's a clone, he'll at least have interesting dialogue.

I agree. I think the Pitoo name is great, but I don't think he's slot-worthy.

It's not the first time something like that has happened. Diddy Kong didn't have a trophy in Melee, and he went straight to playable status. Little Mac, another iconic retro character (at the time), wasn't even mentioned in Melee at all. I feel it's acceptable that since DHD has been ignored completely for this long, he should be given the honor of playable.

That's the thing though I know he is very interesting in KI:U. But I can't see that much personality really caring over to smash. Aside from the potential for codec-esque scenes if we get lucky, taunts, and his win quote there's not much to really build him. Thus to me a lot comes down to looks in my book.

Donkey Kong is a bigger franchise than Metroid and Kid Icarus combined (alongside a bunch of other series too). This is about as big of a discrepancy as you're going to get.

Dark Pit is probably going to be in that same situation. Don't be too quick to dismiss him, he's got a lot of personality and the Kid Icarus weapon arsenal has about a hundred different things in it for his moveset to potentially use. Pit only has like four or five of those weapons in his own moves. Dark Pit could be really different.

He was cool but not THAT cool for clone status.

He wouldn't be a clone. With the way Pit's moveset is setup in Smash 4, he could have completely different weapons from KIU as his specials.

Actually how would Dark Pit even work for Alternate colors with Pit as well.

Pit keeps white wings, Dark Pit keeps black wings. Pit with brighter colors, Dark Pit with deeper colors.

So like Pit gets pink, sky blue, yellow, and light green. Dark Pit gets maroon, deep blue, brown, and a forest green. That, combined with the wings being white or black depending on the character, would be a big enough visual differentiator.

It's definitely doable without too much trouble.
