I am my own waifu.
"Waifu" and discussions around that I honestly find rather insane. A character that doesn't actually exist in real life is something one deems their personal wife in which they have no communication with at all and then proceed to to have discussions about it on forums such as:
"My waifu is the most kawaii"
"Your waifu sucks"
In jokingly it's pretty hilarious, the sad part though is that people actually are serious about them being their "waifus" and mean what they say as if the character is real. Even if real it would be like calling a random person on the street your wife.
So yeah, INSANE.

I just hope we get copious amounts of trophies from different eras. Brawl was over-saturated with GCN/Wii ones due to convenient model usage and it was weird.
Guess that allowed the one-off Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast characters to get some spotlight, though. Seriously, the European version even gave them unique backstories made up on the spot. Kalypso was a dancer! And owned a clubhouse all the Kremlings regarded as an "oasis." (...whatever that means. Teehee.)

Yeah I agree. Using trophies with StreetPass seems like the most obvious route.
Well, as long as there's a way to get them without StreetPass too, otherwise some people will never see even 1/4 of them.

Well then that's hilariously ironic because it was originally an Azumanga Daioh fan joke about a character who has a wife everyone thinks is imaginary because he's so creepy and pathetic. The term was originally meant to make fun of the exact behavior you're associating it with.
That's not a "waifu". He's Japanese, wife and waifu are the same word in that language. Waifu in English is a very specific meme with a very specific intent.
Waifu means Wife, no matter what anyone tries to spin on it, that's the whole point. People tried to spin "moe" into a billion different things as well. Also, just view any anime thread, "waifu" isn't considered a bad thing, it's considered part of the 'culture' now.

I really don't understand why you are fighting this when the origin of the term is well documented and understood. Facts are facts.
I actually really doubt that anyone says "mai waifu" and seriously considers the character in question to be their actual wife.

Er... technically he is right and you even agreed on the origin. The person who originally used the term, Mr Kimura, was non-jokingly saying the woman in the photograph was "my wife". Of course being a Japanese show the English was actually Engrish and thus came out as Mai Waifu. Just because the meme it blossomed resulted in it being the go to term for serious or joke imaginary girlfriend doesn't stop it from just straightforwardly meaning "my wife".
As an internet meme in a written context, it's intellectually dishonest to make no distinction between the Japanese マイワイフ and Mai Waifu. One is the original source material, the other is the joke.

Well you haven't argued against my point yet you're just saying you're right and I'm wrong. Go to a few anime threads, anime sites, see what the modern usage of the word is or go to /a/. When people refer to characters they're sexually attracted to as "waifu" and partake in the culture, that is in some regards taking it seriously. Outside of that, people have taken it seriously.
In this case I'd like to point out "Gay" has had plenty of different meanings overtime. One thing I find common is people tend to like to use jokes to make what they're saying not seem what it actually is, so although it is engrish of My Wife and is suppose to be hilarious, if you really haven't seen the culture around waifus in anime and manga topics, forums, and sites then I'd assume you haven't been a part of them.
I mentioned earlier it's funny when it isn't serious, but in my case more often than not It's been serious.

Trophies are one of the best parts of Smash! And today Sakurai announced we'll get separate collections for each version of the game. That's twice as many trophies! That's like two Nintendo Encyclopedias instead of one!

I like that they're showing snapshots outside of the fights. I hope we get to see more of something else sometime.
The trophies always include everything you see in the backgrounds, so I'm sure the 3DS version will have trophies for the Nintendogs and for the train from Spirit Tracks. Maybe a trophy for Nabooru, as a nod to Gerudo Valley.
I'd love the 3DS version to have lots trophies for Fire Emblem Awakening, Luigi's Mansion 2, Animal Cross New Leaf, Pokémon X and Y, Harmo Knight, Pushmo, etc...
