Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

The trophies always include everything you see in the backgrounds, so I'm sure the 3DS version will have trophies for the Nintendogs and for the train from Spirit Tracks.

Maybe a trophy for Nabooru, as a nod to the Gerudo Valley level.

I'd love the 3DS version to have lots trophies for Fire Emblem Awakening, Luigi's Mansion 2, Animal Cross New Leaf, Pokémon X and Y, Harmo Knight, Pushmo, etc...

...man, it's funny how hyped I'm feeling after the trophy announcement. Now the game is feeling complete!

It's not like I'm disappointed by the trophies or anything, but they were kind of expected. Anyway, I can't wait for a menu pic now. The main menu in Sakurai's games is really great.

I'm not one of those praise-everything-Melee-just-because-it's-Melee people, but let's all be honest - those spacey techno menus really did take the angel food crazy cakes.

I guess Brawl's complemented the UI of the Wii more (and thus the Wii U), but eh.

I want the techno menus back as well. Also I really disliked Brawl's menu SFX, especially when you select things, yuck... why is it so squeaky?
 
I wonder if the trophies in the 3DS version will have AR functionality.

That way Kokonoe can transplant his waifu Saria into the real world!

Kid Icarus Uprising utilized the "smash motion" for charge shots and dodging, and it was plenty satisfying. The circle pad will work great for Smash. And the rest of the buttons will be fine.

Plus, 3D! As someone who played Kid Icarus Uprising at max 3D (and without the stand -- game is easy to hold, just use your pinky), I'm eager to see what Smash will look like in 3D.

the 3ds game looks a lot simpler visually which might be a good thing in the long run. in the wii game you could lose track of where you were when things got busy. the same might happen with the wiiu version.

controls I can see taking some time to get used to but well have to wait and see what happens. imo the biggest advantage the 3DS version has is the player base. theres only about 73 wiiU owners out there half of which have forgotten they bought it in the first place. compare that to the 40+ million 3ds users and the online will be far more enjoyable on the small screen.

EDIT: I want these lovelies to be on the new page. I plan to get both versions of Smash, but man... 3DS version has something special to it.

(It must be my OoT nostalgia. First the Gerudo Valley stage, and now the Saria-on-a-stump trophy!)

Has anyone managed to do an overly obsessive analysis of difference in falling speed between this game and brawl? We have the footage, surely someone is nuts enough to put em side by side and count the seconds.
 
What extra bloat? I liked everything in Brawl, even the demos.

Well you just said you like the demos so this isn't really going to go down well.

I consider them bloat, the chronicles section bloat, there was probably other things in the Extras menu that I forgot about. They probably didn't take my effort to put it, but I'd rather Smash 4 keep things simple.
 
Yeaaahhhhhhh I'm gonna hope that straight model rips from recent games aren't gonna be the vast, vast majority of trophies this time around but I suppose it's still what makes the most sense from a dev perspective. At least Melee's trophies will never be not-cool!

also stuff like EBA, Ouendan and Kyle Hyde probably wouldn't have even been trophies in Brawl if they weren't used due to convenience, so it's not all bad.

I don't see this post in Miiverse, but it would certainly sound like they are indeed adding the finishing touches and adding more content. This would also explain the more UI-related pic of the day. We might even be able to draw some concept or theme of how the game's UI will look, based on that background.
 
I LOVE trophies and the 3DS version has the potential to make this even better.

Also, the "omfg 3d effect while looking trophies" makes me sad that we STILL didn't got a 3D pic in miiverse =(
 
Were people being serious when complaining that they use ripped models for trophies? Making 500 or so models who's only purpose it to be looked at in a trophy viewer is a waste of resources.

I find ripped models really boring and I really hope they don't take up most of the trophies. And to be honest, I'd rather have 250 original trophies over 500 ripped ones. I'll be content if there's a good majority of them being original.

But if mostly ripped models means that they can put the effort and resources into stuff like Stage Builder and whatnot then okay I guess that's fair. (Which is unfortunately not the case with Brawl)


By the way, that reminds me... it would be cool if Event Matches had trophy stages again. Wtf at the lack of that in Brawl... :(

The complaints are more to do with the fact they only ripped them from a handful of games. The biggest offender was DK's section which had a whole lot ripped from a game no one cared about.

Also compared to Melee's offering it seemed a bit lazy.

Honestly, I'd rather have less trophies if the majority of them focused on the long forgotten characters from Nintendo's past like Melee's rather than a bunch of side characters from recent GCN and Wii titles like Brawl's. It's more fun to see old 2D only character in 3D then an already 3D model again.

This could honestly mean anything. We have no idea how far they are in development. I'm sure it's in playable form right now, but they probably have a set of goals they want to accomplish before the release.
 
Alright, I really like the image update. I wonder if it is a sign that they are working on extra contents or would they have a small team that would focus on porting *ugh* other games' models into Smash and convert them into trophies.

Let me reminded everyone that we got trophies update on Sept 24, 2007, so that would meant 4 months before Brawl's Japanese release date, Jan 31. I know there is no such pattern when it come with Sakurai, but I can't help but had a feeling that we are close to release date than we originally thought we would be.

Also there is a new comment that Sakurai is working on project right now to beef up the contents, so I'm not sure if it meant something. We'll see. I'm intrigued, so I'm looking forward for next Nintendo Direct to see what's up with Smash at the moment.

Before people misunderstood my intention. I truly want Sakurai and the companies working on the game until it's completed, because I would love to see the games being overflowed with the contents, histories and everything that Nintendo should provide to us. The game didn't even reach two years in production yet so I'm concerned but at same time I was constantly reminded that Namco-Bandai is a powerhouse that could finishing up sequel in a year or so.
 
I hope all the trophies are just straight ripped assets. I hope they don't waste much time working on things that really add so little to the core game. The only time i have even seen trophies in SSBB is when i unlocked them, i haven't once went back to look at them and i doubt i ever will.

All i really care about is characters, maps, music etc stuff that is there when i'm playing. Possibly a selfish attitude but i'm willing to accept that.
