Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

It's sad how he was just "there", he was the only badass human and we never got much of him.
It was kinda fascinating how much of Kid Icarus: Uprising was general world building, giving us interesting characters and situations with not a lot of screen time. It's almost like they were planning on making it into a franchise of some sort, but then when people asked Sakurai he was just "lol no maybe someone else can make another in 15 years".

Case in point, does anyone remember Poseidon? He was in the game for, what, four lines of dialogue?

I have nothing against the 3DS Smash Bros., but if given the choice I would get rid of it and add its content to the Wii U version in a heartbeat. Fighting games, as well as party games, are always best on a home console, and Smash Bros. is a mixture of both, so... a 3DS version almost seems contrary to its very concept, unless by some miracle it has single-cart download play.

But he can swing a big sword!
obviously compensating for his lack of presence in the game

I see a lot of Ike comparisons, but Magnus really doesn't seem like a "sword" character. His weapon acts more as a giant club and given Magnus' strength he could mix it up with some melee moves such as kicks.

NSMB2 teases you with a potential massive showdown and then it never happens. Such a waste...

NSMB2 is packed with missed opportunities.

Wario should have been the main villain in that game.

I'd say abandon hope and if he ends up as a secret character you can celebrate. Maybe I'm pessimistic that rather than adding another Mario newcomer, Sakurai would bring Dr. Mario back. :/

Instead of a new character experience, you want the DR. version of a character back? Wat?

It's really not that interesting of a moveset though.

What if they teamed him with Dark Lord Gaol; sort of like an Ice Climbers like team?

He's being pessimistic. He doesn't trust Sakurai's ability to make decisions, and thinks that he'll make a dumb one like bring Dr. Mario back.

A bit of a harsh way to sum up my statement. I'm just not very optimistic after seeing that Dr. Mario was planned for Brawl is all.

I doubt we will get anymore "team" characters this smash. Especially with Rosalina who has aspects like that

Speaking of Rosalina, did Smashgaf already discuss how in her trailer it shows FLUDD is back as part of Mario's moveset? Slightly bummed out by that one since there was potential there =/

Well there was that boss in Uprising, but I'd rather see Magnus standalone because I think a "club" style character would be pretty unique. Besides there are already a couple of "team" characters out there being proposed that I would rather see.

Residual data from the game that Brawl was built on is hardly a confirmation.

The character data wasn't just for veterans though, hence why some people think that Dixie Kong and Toon Zelda have a good chance.

Sure, but we've got very, very, very little context to any of those. We have no idea how far along any of those characters were, or if they even made it past the most preliminary stages of development. Those files mean nothing to us now, just as Villager's previous exclusion doesn't mean a thing today.

Your right. I hope that Dr. Mario makes it as a costume for Mario that swaps the fireballs for pills rather than being standalone but we'll see.

I'm going to take a really wild guess and say the WTF Retro Character this time around will be Bubbles from Clu Clu Land.

That's WTF indeed... Since Namco's involved, I'm gonna say either Nightmare from Soul Calibur or the Dig Dug miner. Let's have the Dig Dug miner blowing everyone up and give Smash an M rating for gore >=)

all of the screens we have seen of the phantom with zelda have had less than 4 characters on screen

what if toon zelda is just hiding in the screenshots

Doc Louise would be a great character. A nice mix of boxing, bicycle riding and chocolate eating for his move set.

At the very least have him follow Little Mac around shouting advice from the back of the stage, little like the pokemon trainer.

Toss him in a princess dress for an alternate costume and he would be a popular pick I'm sure.

Dang, two people get banned the first day weekend SmashGAF ends! EmCeeGramr cleaning things up around here... I like it.

I believe that he cleaned up at smash poll thread as well.

Perhaps, it's time for us to celebrating that people might not longer to call us the SmashGAF weird anymore! :o

I still say that if we don't get another uprising character, I want the Kid Icarus stage to be full of dialogue from all of the characters.

Why are people so uppity about Mario "canon"? The only canon is that the characters are all actors and the game you played is just one of their performances.

? Gen 1 starters had a consistent theme too. They were all reptiles :o

Unless I misread your post, then disregard that.

You know what I mean about themes! Something that goes beyond "their animal". Also Bulbasaur is technically a "creature". Its original name even pokes fun at it (Fushigidane sorta is "Isn't it mysterious?")

With Kalos starters the theme is pretty clear and definable.

Also another argument towards having the Kalos starters, if playable, be in their final forms is that all of their signature moves are only accessible at final stage. See...

Chesnaught:
B - Seed Bomb (lobbed projectile that can be charged for farther throw, explodes on hit)
Up B - Wood Hammer (uppercut followed by a downward pound)
Side B - Spiny Shield (counter move which releases spines to the facing side)

Greninja:
B - Water Shuriken (chargeable, fires a rapid set of projectiles)
Up B - Mat Block (vanish and teleport, vanishing is invulnerable)
Side B - ???

Delphox:
B - Mystic Fire (chargeable projectile that grows bigger the farther it travels)
Up B - ???
Side B - Reflect (reflects back projectiles with a short-ranged projectile)

Oh, I kind of counted animals. Bulbasaur I consider a reptile becuz dinosaur

I was just wondering when we might get a release date announcement. The obvious contender would be E3, but I'm thinking the January Nintendo Direct may surprise us.
