Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Pic of the day. Zelda's strong side attack. It's a slash attack that utilizes her magic to make even a simple slash look sharp.

Wow, that looks really good. In Brawl her side-tilt was just some sparkles. : P

Sweet pic. Looks like they're overhauling Zelda's moveset. I approve. As long as she keeps THE TOE, I'm happy.

I'm assuming "strong side attack"
use proper terms sakurai jesus
means forward smash, because Zelda's old fsmash was booty.

"Strong attack" is the proper term for what the community calls tilts. They're called strong attacks in the strategy guides and on the official SSB64 site.

Well I'll be damned.

Next you're going to tell me Fox's shine is really called a "reflector".

cool new ftilt zelda

Guys, I'm pretty sure side attacks is the "official" term than tilts. Smash attacks, neutral attacks, side attacks and aerial.

I have the SSBM manual right here. It clearly says "standard attacks" for neutrals, "strong attacks" for tilts, and "midair attacks" for aerials.

While most of the thread is talking about tilts, nobody is noticing that Zelda is channeling the spirit of Captain Falcon and wants to get her knee on.

I can't wait to see what the new Falcon Punch looks like.

It took me a while to realize that the punch is actually shaped like a falcon.

So Zelda, having been under the special training of Captain Falcon, will replace him as his successor? I dig it.

ITS A JOKE! CALM DOWN! *defends himself with a flaming pitchfork*

I wonder if there is a HDMI to component adapter cause I think I want to see what Smash Bros. U would look like on a HD CRT. No input lag + no ghosting would be sweet, too.

Bummer. Significant?
Almost certainly. I haven't used this particular setup myself, but lag is par for the course when converting video signals between digital and analog.

A better solution if you can afford it would be to get a monitor with low latency. There are plenty of monitors with 1ms of lag.

Yeah, I'm rocking the Asus VH236H at the moment and it's great, was just wanting something with better blacks and colors. I guess another solution would be looking up widescreen CRT monitors and if they have DVI ports.

Of course when OLED is cheaper that'll be the ultimate solution.

These Smash updates continue to amaze me. First her armour-stand, now this rad Strider-ish badass light blade. From "character I couldn't care less in Smash" Zelda is now on my top tier list.

Loving the new Zelda focus. She is one of the most stories characters in the entire roster. I'm loving the new attention to detail. Glad Sakurai is utilizing the resolution to its full detail.

I guess, visually and mechanically, they might want to update Zelda's moveset to associations from more recent games. She's one of the few characters in the series that up until now has been rooted heavily in her original incantation; Ocarina of Time. And even that didn't make a whole lot of sense, Zelda herself using all the great fairy powers alongside Sheik transformation. Between the three games more or less every other character has had changes and additions to their presentation and moveset, whether it be Link's changes to tools or Mario's FLUDD. Zelda's final smash light bow was about as evolved as she got.

Though I'm sure she'll stay magic orientated, it makes sense that they'd want to spice up her presentation and movesets beyond Ocarina of Time Zelda 3.0.

A big problem was of course how little presence she had in the games before OoT. Based on those games we could have moves where she:
  1. Holds up a piece of the Triforce.
  2. Summons a bed.
  3. Helps push something open as long as it is from the correct side.

Why does the new Zelda look so violent, sinister and ready for war? The Brawl Zelda and Melee Zelda weren't like that.

Nice daily pic.
