Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

The announcer just yelling that at the end made the intro. Melee's too.

And Braw-.....oh yeah...I forgot.
What the hell is Smash 4 gonna say?

I'd imagine the guy just yelling "Super Smash Brothers" to fit both versions.
I hope the next guy has the energy to excite. Though I'd love to have Jeff (64) or Dean (Melee) returning as announcer.

Btw the guy that he is talking about is Chaoszero (If I remember his name correctly.)

Remember guys, Uniqueness...

Wow I just noticed the little textures on Toon Link's shirt.

The day when characters look as good as they do in Smash 4 in their retrospective games, is but a dream.

I still believe Smash 64 had the best sound effects when it came to fighting.

Those cartoony kicks and punches were just so fitting to the game. When you charged up your DK punch or used Falcon Punch, you could feel that hit and it was even more satisfying seeing them fly across the screen.
also totally agree on 64's SFX, I love that and Melee's
I love those sound effects as well. Did you know that the Japanese version of Smash 64 had different hit sound effects entirely?
Warning: Lame sound effects incoming

New leak

"Alright, I'm not here to leak loads of information. I am just hear to get my message out. Over the past couple of days I've seen a few prediction rosters with 50+ characters and some that include impossible characters such as Geno or Goku. If you really believe that, then you should prepare yourself for a major disappointment.
The roster started around 50 characters, but it was trimmed down to 44, and then 42. Goku, Geno, and those sorts of characters were never even considered. There will only be 3 third parties. Don't ask me who, because I don't plan on losing my job anytime soon. [Lose your job anytime soon? Um, if there really are 3 third-party characters, then the last one yet to be revealed will be Pac-Man. A big duh.]
Ridley isn't playable. Neither is King K Rool. Sakurai is shooting for uniqueness. I'll use Rosalina (and Luma) as an example. She wasn't as requested as Bowser Jr. or Toad, yet she was the one that got in.
Don't expect every character to return. Sakurai has already said this, but some prediction rosters still have no cuts. As I previously stated, Sakurai is going for uniqueness, so don't expect R.O.B or Lucario to be getting the axe. [Okay, Toon Link.]
Anyhow, I won't plan on making any more posts as I don't plan to leak out the full game. You can ignore this and keep making your 55 character rosters, but don't say I didn't warn you. -Naryol"
Is this a new rumor or part of this post?

So many memories.

The first time I ever heard of Smash was through the PERFECT Smash64 commercial. Pikachu fighting Mario, Yoshi, and DK?? Hell yes. At the time, I knew I would never get a chance to play it unless my cousin got a copy because he would always somehow get the newest releases. From Perfect Dark to Final Fantasy. When he finally did get Smash, we would play it for hours. It's timeless, imo. That same cousin was also the one who l first played Melee and Brawl with years later because he was nice enough to bring it over. It was a game we all could relax and chill with. good times.

That is correct

woo I remembered something and of course it's not topic related..

I feel like there were a lot of missed opportunities with Toon Link: they could have incorporated his Deku Leaf, Mirror Shield, Minish Cap, etc. :/

buuuuuuuuut he's his own character within his own series of LoZ games!

I do kinda wish his moveset was a little bit different :/

His moveset potential is massive. Magic Leaf, Sand Rod, Mole Mitts, etc.

Btw, while I'm talking about it, I just remembered an old moveset that I had wanted for Toon Link.

I wanted him to use the 4 sword and have his various colors popping out to do different moves. Something like this.

Best thing ever was the Special Movie in Melee

I remember when I first found this, had the biggest grin on my face the entire time.

Awwww shit! I forgot about this!

You can make Toon Link feel a lot more like himself even with minor changes. In Project M they gave him the Hurricane Spin and his 3 hit combo from WW and it's so great.

The first time I played Smash Bros was at the house of a friend of my moms. While our moms talked the ladies son took me to play some Super Smash Bros. It was awesome but I never played it again because i didn't have a Nintendo 64 :(

Years later I got a Gamecube and I only ever owned two games on it: Melee and Sims 2. Melee was a ton of fun and I spent a hours upon hours playing it. I absolutely loved the Fourside stage and was disappointed to see that it didn't return in Brawl.

Yeah I agree, I would LOVE toon link to get some more attention before release to differentiate him from regular link, much like they did with falco/fox in brawl, where they really did feel unique and like different characters than just clones. Especially giving him one or two unique b moves.

Also, I disagree with those that dislike how they made toon link look; I say make him look like that in the next Zelda game and take my money while you are at it

Did they give him a crawling animation and a Hide-in-a-Barrel taunt?
I can't remember whether he can crawl or not. But the only taunt they changed was "looking around confused" -> "Milk drink" which makes absolutely no sense but made me smile. Well it makes sense from the perspective that Project M Toon Link is Brawl Toon Link + Melee Young Link + Smash 64 Link + A little more Zelda flavour (WW combo/Moving spin/Jump attack). They really should've kept the classic Melee animation and sound effect and made it soup.

Yup. My earliest memories of the game include:

-the unforgettable commercial
-renting the game from blockbuster soon after it came out
-playing the game in my basement at night. the menu and its music creeped me the fuck out. even the final battle: fighting a giant hand on this purple stage with black background? it was really unique.
-I grew up on Sega Genesis and N64, so Smash was the first time I EVER saw Samus. I was like who dis.
-I want to say it was the first time I ever saw Kirby.
-first time I ever saw captain falcon. my initial reaction to his b move was "why is this move so slowOHMYGOD"
-first time I ever saw ness. was so disappointed because he was the final character to unlock and his jump was all weird. but he had the baseball bat item as a move! and his down b absorbed attacks and replenished health? OP

On the subject of the announcer title yell, that yell is the entire reason I was rooting for the idea of officially subtitling the two games "Kerfuffle" and "Fisticuffs". Just imagine the announcer (Master Hand) screaming those words at the top of his lungs at the end of each game's intro animation.

I've been a vivid follower of Fisticuffs as subtitle for a Smash Bros. since Brawl's name was revealed.

The greatest irony will be Ridley making it onto the roster and ending up as a bottom-tier character that no one plays.

I play Samus, who never was better than mid-tier (in Melee) in all 3 games. I play Brawl Falcon, who is bottom.
For some reason in fighting games, I heavily gravitate towards either really technical characters, low tier characters, or a combination of both (hi MvC3 Tron).

First memory of smash was getting nintendo power in the mail a day I was sick from school. My young mind was blown a fighting game with all of my favorite video game characters? I couldn't wait to get my hands on it, I must have looked over those 4-5 pages for a dozen hours that day alone. They had all the starting 8 moves, all the items, and a few stages iirc.
