Eh, they'd get a trailer if they were playable; Sakurai isn't that much of a meanie-head.
He is likely following Nintendo policy of not commenting on rumours. I mean if he says "the images are fake" people may turn around and say "yeah, but what about what they show?" I doubt he'd want to confirm whether or not a character is in the game until he chooses to.

People would come to a conclusion based on the website roster. Here's the more evil way to do it:
Have a WiiU screenshot (3DS might give it away via outlines) of both of them with the daily comment, "Pic of the day.One of these two is playable, the other is an assist trophy. Can you guess which is which? Hint: the playable one is an unlockable character." On the website, there is a gray character slot with the unlockable character question mark or static, with "Hidden Character" underneath. The Smash Bros. Miiverse website also refers to this character as "Hidden Character," with the mutual image of the two being the only picture or comment on the subject we get until release.

I think Palutena is in the game, but I think the "leak" is fake. The background looks cropped from the Wii U version, and the edges of the characters look choppy and uneven, as if someone edited it. I mean, if I were to make a fake leak, that's probably how it would look. Granted, I'd have to know how to manipulate 3D models, but from what we've seen people do with Brawl's textures, that's not an improbability.
For a game they post weekdaily updates for? If they really wanted to drum up hype tye could have just asked Sakurai to announce her properly.

I think its pretty obvious that Sakurai is saving the last update of the week for a Palutena Wii U multiple shot update because it'd be the 3 day anniversary of the leak.
And if it's not tomorrow, I'd say that means she's not in and it will be Honey Queen as a newcomer instead.

I'm sure there will be a Kid Icarus stage on the Wii U version. It won't be that same stage though.
Really, Uprising had a lot more visually interesting areas than Chapter 11.

They were free, but I just checked and there's no way to watch them NV. Certainly isn't on eShop either. Best bet is recordings on Youtube.

Combatants will fight on the parapets of the castle under siege and then Viridi will drop the Reset Bomb and the fight will continue inside the Reset Bomb Forest. Lot of visual effects going on there, with what I presume will be the fully animated army in the background. I wonder if Cragalanche will show up?
