Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Nah man.

Soul Calibur X Fire Emblem.

No, disgusting. Soul Calibur and Fire Emblem should never, ever mix.

I love fighting games from Street Fighter to Tekken to Tatsunoko to Dead or Alive.

The games I just can't bring myself to like are Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Soul Calibur, etc. I wouldn't trust Project Soul in art design and fighting game design. The gameplay just isn't as fun, as fluid, nor as combo oriented. Bandai Namco had a similar idea with Tales of VS, and they just screwed that one up. Fire Emblem would benefit more from quarter-circles, charges, and sprite based combat via Arc System Works.

On a side note, wouldn't it be a tease if the Wii U version had like a light racing mini game that you can unlock, like it'd switch to a new menu and it would show Nintendo All-Stars Kosoku Battle Brothers. A preview to a Smash Mario Kart game.

It'd also be great if they added a new mode like a Gigant Battle where the person with the Gamepad controls a "Boss" Character, and the other multiplayer characters choose characters and have to defeat the Boss. Sort of like a Giant version of the character, but with perks such as super armor, low hit stun, and what not and the goal is to knock them off rather than deplete HP.

.

I have no idea what madness you talking , them two things already so close its not even funny.

Seriously you could just throw fire emblem characters in soul calibur to a person who has never heard of fire emblem, and they wouldn't bat and an eye and vice versa for the most part.

In no particular order:

- Wonder Red. He has such potential as a character, and could be done many different ways.
- Ridley. He's an awesome space dragon. 'Nuff said.
- King K. Rool. The most iconic Donkey Kong villain. He could be a very heavy and strong.
- Vaati. My favorite Zelda villain, and would be a shorter villain to kind of counteract Toon Link.
- Dark Samus. It could be so different than Samus, attacking with Phazon while being very quick.

I have no idea what madness you talking , them two things already so close its not even funny.

But the game would be bastardized with horrible art, Assassins Creed cameos, and lame gameplay. It would never be recognized by the FGC and it will never be up at EVO like Persona was :[

Arc System Works is such a great developer, hell I'd trust Capcom, Sega, or even Team Ninja more than Project Soul at creating a Fire Emblem Fighting game.

Standalone Fighting Game > Fire Emblem crossover, they deserve a standalone game so much more after all this time.

But the game would be bastardized with horrible art,
wat?
Assassins Creed cameos,
Fire emblem would be the cameo, also fire emblem has a lot of cameos did you not like link in SC2 either?

and lame gameplay.
Extra wat?

It would never be recognized by the FGC and it will never be up at EVO like Persona was :[
The fgc is a minority figure in .. most if not every fighting that is bought. Who cares what they like, i got my game dude.

I wouldn't since they Soul calibur is a license away from being a fire emblem fighting game.
( why do hate the soul calibur ;o; )

Pretty much my most wanted characters.
This post is basically a mixture of what I want and what I expect, except that I don't really know anything about Dillon, and Dixie Kong should be replaced with
fucking
Cranky Kong.

Man, I'd love to see that reveal thread.

Also Ridley. Space dragon. Deal with it.

Oh hell, just give me a Fire Emblem Fighting Game made by Arc System Works. If Persona can get one, Fire Emblem definitely deserves one.

On topic this would be the endgame, Smash Bros that beats all Smash Bros
Advance Wars Rep

No Pac-Man, Sonic, or Mii
And more, these are just off the top of my head
why the hell would you cut sonic and add resident evil and tales of characters?

I love the ol wish list.

1. Captain Syrup. Imo she has a lot of potential as a villainous pirate. In the past, she has used robots, flying contraptions, and her brown sugar gang to fight against Wario.
2. Little Mac. I think he is long over due. It would be a real shame if he is not in.
3. Impa.
4. Lucina. She takes place of Lyn this iteration lol
5. Ridley.

I dunno. There's characters I'd like to see but at this point I just want some great characters and solid gameplay/online.

why the hell would you cut sonic and add resident evil and tales of characters?

Because I have no love for modern Sonic. He was great when I was younger, my tastes have shifted and I see him as a plague. The last Sonic game I enjoyed were Advance/Adventure. Once Heroes, Riders, and all that nonsense came about I excommunicated Sonic from my life.

But that's just my dream list for Smash Bros. The closest I will ever get to that is Project M with texture/model hacks and moveset hacks on Dolphin or Wii if it could handle it.
Quick question, when emulating on the Wii U, does PM suffer from the lag and whatnot it does on a regular Wii?

Realistically for Smash Bros. 4, I just want Advance Wars, W101, Mewtwo, Wario Ware, no cuts. No Pac-Man either.

i just hate the very idea of cutting anyone

i feel sonic deserves his stay for the 16bit era

EDIT: You should give Sonic Generations a shot sometime if you haven't and see if you enjoy it!

Wii U mode isn't exactly emulated, so PM works the same as it does on the Wii actually.

Really, the only character I truly truly wish for is Ridley.
I'm not being delusional with any other characters at this point - Lip, Captain Syrup, Simon Belmont and Captain Rainbow are fairly high on my wanted-list, but they're completely unlikely, so I don't even bother mentioning them for the most part.
The only other character who has a shot and I would like is Medusa, but I doubt she'll make it.

( why do hate the soul calibur ;o; )

But FGC is pretty big and it's only growing in the West. In Japan, fighting games are huge and I still see arcades booming with competition every weekend when I'm there in the summer. The FGC is a completely growing demographic that's been recognized by developers as seen in arcade test sites, feedback, and updated versions. Developers do this for the FGC and those serious about the gameplay.

You got your game but it's really not my taste, ya feel?

I've never really like the combat system or the look of Soul Calibur. It just never clicked with me and although I did enjoy Soul Edge as a kid, I started to like the series less and less as time went on. Especially with the cameos such as Star Wars and Assassins' Creed, I could never bring myself to like it.

Tekken had an enjoyable cast of characters and it was still fun to play despite the juggling mechanics and it always had a great arcade scene. I never felt the same way with the Soul Series mainly because the combat didn't look as fluid or appealing. Even Street Fighter is more entertaining because of the parry system, FADC, and all the other mechanics that makes the game fun to play and fun to watch. Ever since I saw what Arc System did with BlazBlue and Persona, they've been my ideal go to fighting game developer. Sure Persona/Blazblue is a bit simplistic, but it's so much more rewarding landing combos, zoning, and rushing on that game than it is anywhere else. Arc System usually has a balanced cast with good matchups and that's the standard I'd set for a Fire Emblem fighting game. Plus the sprites would totally match Fire Emblem art. I gotta play those anime fighters.

If Smash became a 2.5D fighter, I'd still play the hell out of it. I'd love to see what they'd do with Health Bars and a crazy Marvel/Tatsunoko type gameplay.

Could you imaging a smash bros with air dashes, super meter, and cancels? That'd be amazing. I love Smash for what it is, but I'd love to see what it'd be like as a traditional fighter.

All this Ridley love! It does my old heart good.

I hardly feel like anything has changed since the Pyrosphere reveal. Soviet Prince you are just a debbie downer when it comes to Ridley. Paranoid too. If he makes it he makes it, if not i'll be disappointed but as much as I really really really really want him, I just don't "stress" over his possible exclusion.

The characters I really want within reason:

Hades - We've got a bunch of new females, now we need more villains. He's the best villain in anything for a long time, and i think he'd really benefit from more exposure, especially with Sakurai saying a sequel is not in the works for the foreseeable future.

Ghirahim - Same as above. More villains. Also, when I played SS, I kept thinking, DAMN this guy was MADE for Smash. So much moveset material. I'd be happy with with SS Impa too.

Shulk - Xenoblade is awesome etc etc.

Takamaru - Never played the original, just seems like a cool character who's prime for a comeback.

Paper Mario: Flat like Game and Watch. Surprised he hasn't made yet. Lots of moveset material.

The crazier, less likely choices:

Captain N: Obvious

Square-Enix Rep - I'd be happy with anyone but Lightning. While I'm not crazy for him, even Geno would be cool to see.

Digimon: Man, imagine the meltdowns.

Simon Belmont: Also obvious.

Last Story rep: I'd be happy with someone like Zael as an AT.

All I can think of at the moment.

As for features

An adventure mode mixing the short but sweet mode from Melee (including actual franchise locales) with unique bosses from Brawl's SSE.

Color Edit mode

Actual alternate costumes for characters. I want things like a proper OoT or SS blonde Zelda. A Three Sacred Treasures Pit. Etc etc.

The ability to import custom music tracks.

Oh something else that just came to my mind - I know it's even less likely than Lip or Captain Rainbow or Simon Belmont, but I'd really enjoy some more love for Magical Starsign.
My favorite would probably be featuring all the non-MC characters (Lassi, Sorbet, Chai, Mokka and the fire mage whose name escapes me right now) being a switch-character ala PT/Zelda.

I was so happy when it got some recognition with a sticker in Brawl!!

Magical Starsign also is one of the very few JRPGs I've enjoyed in the past 10ish years, so if you have a DS and haven't played that game, go get it. It's such a fun game! :)
I haven't tried the first game (Magical Vacation, which was sadly only out in Japan), but if it's anything like Starsign, it's also good.

Ohh, are we doing wishlists again? Cool.

My #1 hoped for is Strikers Daisy, repping Mario Sports games.
2) Takamaru
3) Saki from Sin & Punishment
4) King K. Rool
5) Captain Rainbow
6) Tharja
7) Dixie Kong
8) Simon Belmont
9) Wonder Red
10) Krystal
11) Palutena
12) Dillon from Rolling Western
13) Bayonetta
14) Mii
15) Mr. Miyamoto as the WTF choice, similar to R.O.B. last time around.

Probably no chance in hell we'll get Daisy, unfortunately :(

hyperdimension_neptunia_MkII_keiji_inafune.jpg

Miyamoto/Sakurai should make a Final Smash cameo like Inafune in Hyperdimension Neptunia. Like imagine Brawl Pit Final Smash with Sakurai and his cat shining in the background.

My most wanted characters? Definitely Ridley, K. Rool, Tharja, and Waluigi. I'd honestly be so happy if any of them got into Smash.

I'm not really all for Dillon being a playable character, but I feel he would have the absolute most fun/satisfying moveset out there were he to be playable.

Since we're all doing wishlists, I'll go ahead and give mine, as well.
(Note: My list is written on the assumption that our presently undisputed leaks are indeed true, and that Little Mac and Palutena are already in the game.)

sa6t.png

Masked Man (MOTHER3)
My favorite character from my favorite game. Rather than rely primarily on PSI like Ness and Lucas, MM would have a lot more variety to his arsenal. He could fly around with his winged jetpack, shoot opponents with his blaster gun, slash them with his sword, or shock them into submission with his lightning strike. If I were to choose only one character for the next game, it would hands-down be Masked Man. <3

vr3v.png

Sukapon (Joy Mech Fight)
Originally planned for inclusion in the first Smash, Sukapon is more than quirky enough to deserve a spot on the roster. His floating head, body, and hands could lead to some cool disjointed hitboxes and long-ranged attacks. Moreover, Sukapon's moveset could also incorporate a few of his rivals' special moves. And let's not forget that the game's soundtrack is amazing.

vazh.png

Laughing Dog (Duck Hunt)
I can vividly recall playing Duck Hunt as a kid: humming along with the intro music, feeling the spring-loaded click of the Zapper, and--of course--seething with rage at that blasted dog. But frustrating though he may have been, it was hard to stay mad at the dog for too long, and I would love to see him make a comeback in Smash.

hlm1.png

Impa (Skyward Sword)
As much as I love OoT, I think Sheik's moveset in Smash would best be passed on to Impa--and maybe even updated/altered to fit the character even more. I'm a huge fan of Impa's new design, and I would love to see her join the fray as a standalone fighter.

This would be completely laughable if SS didn't give her one of the best designs ever in Zelda. And to go from "completely laughable" to "wow, that would be so cool!" Just by an art redesign is saying something special about said redesign

To be fair, though, that Impa redesign is not that much different from Ocarina of Time's. OoT's Impa was a lot more muscular and didn't have the cape, though.

Do you guys think Nintendo is going to do that Best Buy E3 Demo event during E3 week this year?

If there's a playable Smash 4 demo for Wii U, it's going to be fucking pandemonium.

As pointed out it isn't that extremely different from OoT's design. I think it's both the redesign and she has started to get an increasing amount of both appearances and importance. As for the idea of her replacing Sheik, I'm 50-50 on that. Brawl really nerfed the Zelda/Sheik character and on top of that he did things to discourage transforming between the two which kinda frustrates me. I also think Impa is a lot more relevant to the series as a whole than Sheik was. With that stated Sheik is still a popular character in the series and the transformation mechanic is unique and different. I'd be in favor of such a move if they buffed Impa and Zelda and gave them both some unique moves such as new down specials. If Zelda gained the ability to summon Phantom for example I think that'd be great as well as Impa gaining something as well. However, I'd rather the development team focus on improving Ganondorf as a fighter rather than redressing an old Zelda character ala Toon Link. The first and obvious idea that people have mentioned is giving Ganondorf a completely new moveset that reflects his numerous abilities and moves from the games and possibly introducing Black Shadow for those that liked Ganondorf as a fighter. Another possibility that I liked in one of the numerous rumors was his down special summoning a sword which gives him a new moveset built around that. The other obvious thing would be to give him the ability to transform into Ganon which would also give him a new moveset. In my ideal world they'd completely redo Ganondorf so that his standard form made use of the twin swords he used in WW and then he could transform into Ganon which would make use of his trident and his signature move that was lobbing powerful energy balls that could be hit back and forth.

To be fair, though, that Impa redesign is not that much different from Ocarina of Time's. OoT's Impa was a lot more muscular and didn't have the cape, though.

I think you're misremembering. This is the Ocarina version of Impa:

impa.jpg

The only similarity is in relative age compared to prior incarnations, and the Shiekah eye logo. OOT Impa looks like a rejected American Gladiators contestant (complete with bicycle shorts), while the Skyward Sword version has a cool, mysterious costume with desert and tribal motifs that fits more seamlessly into a fantasy world.

So I found all my old gameboy cartridges and was wondering who could be the retro/wtf character this time around and I think I've got it........ Paperboy! Not sure who owns the IP but I seriously played this game so much on my original gameboy it isn't even funny.

Hope so. Nintendo needs to get the word out somehow

Last year they had Donkey Kong, 3D World, Mario Kart and Wind Waker HD playable.

This year it could be Smash, Hyrule Warriors and X. Jesus.

I'd record footage and all, but last time, there was no recording allowed. The Nintendo rep told me I could only take pictures if you captured the player and the Gamepad in their hands. You can't make this shit up.

A funny ironic thing about that (considering that we don't make wishlists without some people mentioning Captain N) was that it was originally going to be Paperboy was going to be the main character of the Captain N cartoon. If it had originally gone that way, I could imagine a lot of people saying Paperboy as a possible contestant.

new revised wish list

1. baby dk
2. lubba
3. cool spot
4. lady from dmc3
5. annoying orange
6. halo

won't buy the game if these guys aren't in.

Uhm. Yeah, but you have to realize that Ocarina of Time came out on the N64, and the character designs were kept simple in order to work with the console's limitations in terms of polygons and textures.
If you look at any given OoT art, you'll notice that all of the designs are fairly simple and easy to realize on a weak 3D console.
Impa's is no exception.

I actually like OoT Impa better, because she looks like an athletic warrior and a bodyguard. SS Impa looks like she'd break if you look at her - heck for a game with generally realistic body sizes, her stick-like shape looks so out of place. Also the face is creeping me out.

Personally, I'd like a design that's somewhere in the middle between both - have a more realistic body shape and keep her white hair (which imo is one of the most important parts of her), but give her the duds from SS (for all I care... I like the OoT clothing better, but I can see why the short pants would put people off).

I like this design. She looks a lot more rigid than SS Impa, but IMO it works because it looks intentional. OoT in general has a lot of solid female characters and it's nice that Impa actually looks like she can fight.

I'd like either of them. Just as long as Impa is playable!

Hey I actually liked that design of impa too. :3 she looks like a beast and it sucks we didn't get to see her in action. I like both designs honestly. The sheikahs are my favorite Zelda race.

The main argument I was trying to refute was that there was "Not much difference" between the designs. These are drastically different looks, with very little in common.

I did let some of my own opinions slip in there as well. I personally don't think the costume in OoT fits a fantasy world, as it looks like a pro wrestler look from the eighties or nineties. I can definitely understand your prefernce so far as her build goes. It mostly depends on if your going for a mysterious ninja type, like SS went for, or a bodyguard like OoT went for, who would need to be bulkier for direct confrontation.

A ninja needs strength and muscle as well (though, granted, OoT Impa looks very buff). SS Impa looks like just picking up a piece of paper would break her arms. ;)

Also, in terms of similarity: Both are fit warrior-esque women with the Sheikah symbols.
Compared to old-woman-Impa from the pre-OoT games, and big-boobed weightlifter Impa from the Oracle games, they're significantly more similar to each other. :P

I guess I'd go for SS Impa over Ghirahim cause I totally do want more female characters. I also want the Leaky 3, Wonder Red, Dillon, Shulk, Dixie Kong, and Lucina.

I'd also love Kumatora, Black Shadow, Krystal, Sami, Knuckles, separate Pokemon only, and Ridley, but those are all long shots. You'll excuse me if I don't spend 15 minutes on Google images illustrating my picks.

Also, finally fixed up my avatar. #KeepinItReal

seriously what would paperboy even do

Ride on a bike, throw news papers.
There's also quite a lot of stuff to draw from out of the games, like the dogs or whatever.

I mean, he would be a shitty character (and also is owned by Atari, i.e. Infogrames), but there's been people who do less getting a moveset. :P

I guess I'd go for SS Impa over Ghirahim cause I totally do want more female characters

That, and Impa also is significantly more important to the series than Ghirahim - Impa has been in several games, and has been taking a central story role in most of them, while Ghirahim is just a one-shot villain.

Also, why do you think Ridley is a "long shot"?
