So, what kind of picture are you all realistically hoping for next week? I'd like to see something that clarifies what the Pilotwings stage is like.

I'm thinking... a picture that showcases an classic item. Maybe a barrel or a Mine or somesuch. apart from that some Luigi pictures, one with Pikachu doing something wacky!
 
I'm confident in Takamaru's chances. Sakurai has shown his desire to add more retro characters into Smash so I think it's safe to say that we'll have at least one or two new retro characters. There's also the fact that his game was represented in Nintendoland and his game was recently rated in the Aus classification board, so it's likely it will release outside of Japan for the first time soon.

In terms of retro characters, Takamaru has the best chance.
 
Another point in Takamaru's favor is that he would be taking over the Disk System "slot" previously occupied by Pit, who is no longer a retro character. Sakurai's never thrown retro characters in for the sake of it; they each represent something. Mr. Game & Watch represents the Game & Watch handhelds, Ice Climbers represent the NES, R.O.B. represents the R.O.B. peripheral, and Pit represents the Disk System. Of course, things can change, but I can only speak to what's already been established.

Personally, I'd be looking towards the following unrepresented pieces of hardware in trying to guess which retro character(s) will be added to SSB4:

Arcade - Sheriff, Donkey Kong Jr.
NES Zapper - Duck Hunt, Wild Gunman
Disk System - Takamaru
Game Boy - Tetris (you never know!)

Nintendo's SNES and N64 output is mostly sequels in established series, so there probably isn't going to be a retro character from those consoles. (I suppose you could already consider Ness an SNES representative.)

If I were you I wouldn't dare to be that confident. Many people, including me were confident that specific characters would be in Brawl, and it backfired on us.

Don't worry I always accept that no matter how likely it may sound, I could still be wrong. Gotta always keep the hype in check.

However, even though we were wrong in some characters we thought were shoe-ins for Brawl, it does not mean all of our predictions were wrong. Who here didn't predict Metaknight, Ike, Diddy Kong, and Olimar would appear? Even Pit's appearance wasn't that surprising.

Has it been said whether the Classic Controller/Pro will be compatible with this game or not? I think the answer would be a yes either way but I just want to make sure.

They haven't mention anything about Wii Controllers, etc. Only confirmation we got is from a video of Sakurai using Wii U Pro Controller at E3.

Watching a video of the controller being used to play Brawl on WiiU through the adapter, there isn't noticeable input lag as far as I can tell.

Alright, thanks. Hope we get official word about this sooner or later. I expect they will be compatible but it's always a lingering fear they won't be, heh.

Hm, this is good news then. Having only a Gamepad and Pro Controller, a GC controller for the third player (and likely Wii Mote for fourth) is great!

EDIT: I don't know where it was, but someone said SSE was a dull platformer in response to something I said. You had to treat it moreso as a beat 'em up, and I also found most of the boss battles to be pretty fun.

Well, I can still get disappointed during post-release game if I don't see the characters I'm interested to see. Also it would apply with contents, stages, etc.

I really like Wii U Pro Controller, and I felt that it is better than Xbox360 controller.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying not to be disappointed at all. I just don't like all the meltdowns after every fighting game's roster is revealed. No matter how likely your favorite character may be, it's good to be cautious incase it doesn't happen. But of course, you'll still be disappointed especially if there chances were great. Don't fail me with Takamaru and Palutena, Sakurai!

Oh and that's good to hear about the controller. I'm also expecting the 3DS to be pretty good for Smash as well.

Yeah, I remembered the huge meltdowns with Brawl and MVC3. Plus I'm concerned about playing SSB on 3DS because I don't really want to wore out my 3DS XL.

Most of those guys didn't read the comics and only experience with marvel were cartoons in the 90's so they for some reason they figured that the same heroes were relevant.

It's more likely that I would ended up buying new 3DS XL just for SSB 3DS. It would be awesome if they managed to release SSB 3DS Bundle.

Well, I was very disappointed that Frank West didn't get in because his silhouettes was shown in early trailer, but my disappointment got redeemed when they added him in Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom along with Firebrand, Iron Fist, Dr. Strange, Phoenix Wright, Ghost Rider, etc.

However I wished that they would go with their original plans for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom but Higher in Capcom told them to rushing with the development and they had to cut some characters out.

From what I remembered that we were supposed to have 58 characters in Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom.

hah true. Their have already been integrated in other Nintendo games so it's always a possibilty. they have a good chance because they are a big part of Nintendo's modern history with their Wii brand.

This is really old, but I had no idea it existed somehow: an audio recording of Sakurai's 2008 GDC speech. It's worth listening to if you're a fan of Smash Bros.

I would like them to make a 4 and put a bunch more guys in. But capcom is running low on funds.

No thanks, but the castle would make for a really good stage. It also has plenty of good music options.
Hey, he could perfectly work like Sheik with a sword. I think he's great for the game but yeah, the stage sounds awesome too! Imagine ninjas appearing on it or the boss from NL as a stage hazard.
 
Has Sakurai said anything regarding what he's doing with the Gamepad? Going to assume menu navigating, statistics, and off-screen play at the very least. But it would be great if he did something unique with the thing.

It's been mentioned here before, and I think it'd be very neat; a special mode where the Gamepad player basically plays God, invoking the stage's hazards as they please, activating items/assist trophies/pokéballs to their heart's content, etc...
 
I'm hoping the two retro characters revealed this time will be Laughing Dog and Takamaru. Those would be great additions. Especially the Duck Hunt Dog, that would be a lot of WTF from people, coming off totally unexpected with WFT.

Yes, Niitsuma wanted 58 characters in UMvC3 to beat the 56 in MvC2. Plus! Gene was going to be a definite if the numbers of characters stayed.. :( Along with X.

this is the correct way to look at it, i never treated it as a platformer, always as a beat'em up, infact the only time i felt it worn out its welcome was the whole maze thing
 
A Mario enemy needs to be in this, either a Koopa Troopa or multiple Goombas (think Ice Climbers and how the Goombas stack on each other in the RPG games).

Think about it, they are probably in the top 5 most iconic Nintendo characters. Why bring in all these nobodies when you have such a big hitter left.

I want Shy Guy to be the second Yoshi rep.

He would be my most wanted character if I didn't think his chances were so low.

Why the fuck is she wearing high heels? How is that going to benefit her in anyway? I also hate that beauty mark on her face. I hate the Other M model, messed up one of my favourite characters. =/
