Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Wait seriously on the title? People thought Pilotwings was Minecraft? Were they GAFers??!!!?? Point them out to me =P

So does anyone else not want wonder red in this? Because I've seen a lot of people asking for it and it just doesn't make sense to me.

An assist trophy? sure, maybe. But a fully playable character just does not sit well with me for some reason.

You're not alone. I'm sure it'll be a good game, but let's be honest -- it's going to bomb. It won't have any staying power. It won't birth a series and it won't mean anything by the time SSB4 is out. I'm probably a little conservative when it comes to which games I think "deserve" playable characters, and Wonderful 101 hasn't proved its worth yet.

Yeah, low Wii U sales is a recipe for disaster and i'm sure casual gamers would choose Pikmin over it due to the "cuteness" and easier gameplay.

It's destined to bomb, which is a shame.

I sure hope they show us WFT, Villager and Olimar on 3DS.

It doesn't matter if a game is going to "bomb" when talking about Smash Bros.

We've got 3 Star Fox characters which is a series with only one good entry (and a remake of that entry) and only 3 of them sold exceptionally well (with one of them being a remake).

Sakurai is also having problems with characters who transform.

Sakurai didn't say that.

Yes, Star Fox is a series. Wonderful 101 is a single game. It also doesn't hurt that Star Fox was conceived by Shigeru Miyamoto and some of Nintendo's other heavy hitters. It means a lot to Nintendo's heritage. Wonderful 101... not so much.

Again, I'm not trying to bash the game -- it's not even out yet -- but it's pretty much the reason Assist Trophies exist. It doesn't stand out any more than Pandora's Tower, Sin and Punishment, Drill Dozer, or any of the dozens of other C-list Nintendo games.

I don't really expect Wonder-Red to be in the game. Only reason why I'm rooting for him to be in game because I would rather to see him being in the game than Bayonneta being in. Especially when I heard that Sakurai were in touch with Kamiya by tweeting and visiting him at the company. However it could be something else, like I would guess new design of Takamaru?

Well if Smash wasn't coming out in (likely late) 2014, having Wonder Red in the game could have given Wonderful 101 some exposure. Smash did wonders (pun intended) for Fire Emblem after all.

And minecraft? Really? I guess some kids are just that young. Then again, I had no idea it was Pilotwings when I saw the picture either since I've never been into that series. However, I could tell "it's likely a SNES game".

There will be a Nintendo Direct dedicated solely to The Wonderful 101 at 7:00 AM Pacific in Northern America, 4:00 PM CEST in Europe (3PM BST) on August 9th and 12:00 AM AEDT in Australia on August 10th!

This episode will be hosted by a special guest you all know and love, who will show you the latest trailer and tell you how to play the game…

DIRECTLY!

Make sure to watch it all the way through, because there might just be an exciting new announcement at the end!

So the last two smash games have had legacy stages from the previous games, I'm hoping that smash 4 will have legacy stages from brawl, melee (cant imagine having a pokemon stadium 2 & 3 but not 1) and 64. But what if it's just brawl stages? What are say, 8, stages that you'd like to see return from brawl?

For me, I'd want to see:
-Bridge of Eldin
-Frigate Orpheon
-Yoshi's Island
-Lylat Cruise
-Pokemon Stadium 2
-Warioware
-Skyworld
-Battleship Halberd

I think this would be a nice mix of stages to get from brawl, though I really want Pokemon Stadium 1, Hyrule Temple, Onett, Venom, Big Blue, Fountain of Dreams, Saffron City, Congo Jungle and Peach's Castle return from Melee/64.

I'd also like them to have updated textures and polycounts this time, but that's not exactly necessary.

I think it is. I like the of idea of legacy stages, but if they look like vomit compared to the stages that were actually designed for HD, then I would hope they would actually remodel them.

It was already noticeable in the other Smash games. The legacy stages looked like hot garbage, I want them back, but I am worried about how much time they could give to updating old stages.

I do like the idea of pulling from all three games as well. Here would be my list:

Super Smash Bros.
Dream Land

Melee
Fountain of Dreams
Pokémon Stadium
Mushroom Kingdom
Mushroom Kingdom II

Brawl
Hanenbow
Lylat Cruise
Yoshi's Island

I left some out ( Port Town Aero Dive and WarioWare, Inc.) because I feel a new version of the stage or similar stage could improve upon earlier efforts, unlike Pokemon Stadium 2 did which is why I would want the original back.

They're clearly reusing Wii assets for some of the new stages already. I don't see, say, the Twilight Princess bridge looking significantly worse than the Skyward Sword city. It's only the Melee stages that would stand out in a negative way.

I've been noticing so many people bringing that up. I wonder what got people to think that?

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/13/smash-bros-wii-u-3ds-might-not-release-at-the-same-time

Though series creator and producer Masahiro Sakurai would not elaborate specifics as to which version is farther along, he mentioned that the two versions of the next Smash Bros. installment might find themselves completed at different dates, particularly with the 3DS facing some challenges in terms of how to accommodate characters that incorporate more than one fighter, such as the Ice Climbers.

Of course, they then made a leap from that to characters with transformations also being problematic even though that has been said nowhere.

Yeah, I am seriously not understanding how people came up with the conclusion that the transformation characters are in trouble. Ice Climbers are a completely different thing.

It's almost like the Ice Climbers are on very thin ice.

There's a sugimori art of MegaMewtwo and MegaLucario fighting. I thought it was a pretty funny pic in hindsight with regards to Smash :P

I'm pretty indifferent to the whole subject. I can see maybe an AT or something. If he's in then cool. I just wanna see new characters :/

I laugh every time I see Mega Ampharos. heheh. But yea the Mega forms do add a new twist to everything and it gives then another way to expand the game even more. I'd kill to see a Mega Nidoking. Mega Blaziken (One of my most favorite pkmn) is already hyping me for the game. The Mega forms would make interesting Final Smashes so I'd be up for it.

You could have said the same thing about Ness in Smash 64. You could say the same thing about Ice Climbers to this day.

Wonder Red would be great in Smash. And since he is the main character in a brand new Nintendo IP it makes sense to promote him.
