Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

The way I see it is like this.

All-Stars tried to be a game that is similar to a series I immensely enjoyed, but failed at it.

Sticker Star did something new and interesting and was actually a challenging game with no tutorials and with next to no handholding in today's day and age.

I still think Thousand Year Door is the best Paper Mario game and I want something more similar to that, but Sticker Star wasn't as bad as people make it out to be.

I was mulling it over... :3
I think it's only like $15 on Amazon now. I rented it and it's seriously worth that much just for 1 and 3. Hell its worth the $40 it was at launch. I need to buy it for the collection eventually, they're very replayable games. (Maybe then I can complete them fully on Normal or above... I suck at them >_< still a ton of fun either way)

So anyways who wants OG Dante for smash 4

Yeah and freaking megaman IS. Hard to beat, hard to beat.

Bro they were the bomb, fairly certain i spent more time in the thread than the game :P
I hardly recognize you without your Parappa avey though haha.

It's harder to beat Sonic, Snake or Mega Man in Smash.

Also now I remember Sponge now. I forget all about his Parappa.

But... ZEUS! GUY FROM STARHAWK!

I just wanted Abe. :|

Dart was dropped which sting for me. Same thing go with Gravity Rush stage.

I still want to try out the game regardless, is it still worth playing?

Rent it first, and see if you like it then buy it. I sold my game, and I'm willing to play the game again if I get it from Plus.

I am willing to forego Ridley for Sylux or better yet a Golden Sun character.

Or King K. Rool.

I can do that easily for GOlden Sun, Takamaru, Palutena, Laughing Dog or King K. Rool since I only support Ridley for my friend.

The next character reveal will be Evil Link and uses eviler versions of Regular Links attacks

Confirmed for playable character?

Now that they have Mega Man and the possibility of non-rushed Sonic inclusion... Robotnik and Wily team-up boss fight in adventure mode.

Best Paper Mario game.

Some people say this, I'm not bothered by people liking the game, but saying it is the best Paper Mario game really ruffles me. Because by saying that, you are in reality just saying you didn't like Paper Mario very much until it changed many of the fundamentals that i would classify as a Paper Mario game.

-RPG aspects (sure they were lite RPG aspects but i definitely enjoyed it)
-Party Members (biggest one for me, really disappointed by the lack thereof)
-A plethora of traversal techniques (Party Members as well as abilities Mario himself possesses)
-A connected world (A limitation of the hardware perhaps, but still the inclusion of a stage select was very odd to me)
-Basic Equipment (Badges were awesome, loved that.)

All of Sticker Star was very unique and had great dialog and thats all fine and dandy, but as someone looking for a Paper Mario experience i didn't find it in Sticker Star.

The gameplay experience that actually tipped me over the edge though was an unwinable fight with a fish. If you attacked him he would swim out to the ocean and just spit at you till you died. Of Course you were supposed to get something to help you. IDK what.

BUT you were still able to attack him one time.

I did the math in my head and i thought that with very special circumstances i could take him out in one turn.

First step:
Get a preemptive strike.

Bet you didnt know you could jump on the bastard before the fight eh? K you probably did, but anyway!

Step two:
Get a luck roll that allowed me to attack 3 times in a turn. You could pay for it IIRC?

Step three:
Use that toad suit thing that doubled power, then do just enough damage with your second strike to not have him jump in the water (because for some reason if you dealt a certain amount, even on your turn he would just jump in the water and shoot you) that was generally just a regular boot.
At this point he would have like 40/70 life or something or other.

Finally:
Use that giant ass hammer that was all holographic and shit coupled with your double power and time it perfectly for max damage.

I DID THE MATH

I knew for a fact that this final attack with the hammer would do OVER 50 damage.

This whole experience, this whole thing with math and timing and careful planning. I thought this was the whole point of the new battle system.

NOPE

Piece of crap just jumped in the water with a magical number of HP left. Took me like 10 attempts to align the stars thinking that MAYBE there would be some reason they let me get one turn off on him.

I was wrong, haven't played it since.

....Sorry for the rant...

Ill uh, go walk over there now...

It's also possible they like the earlier Paper Mario games just fine, but liked what they did with Sticker Star even more :p

I'm not one of those people, btw, lol.

I do like Sticker Star, though.

edit: the bosses were my least favourite part, with a couple exceptions. The level design and puzzles were extremely fun though. And the game was super charming and beautiful, not to mention one of the best soundtracks of 2012. Overall, a flawed game for me, but a very unique and creative one.

I love the original PM but I never got around to finishing TTYD. Super Paper Mario was a lot of fun too, I think. Sticker Star was a boring, boring game. Ugh...

Paper Mario for Smash

Sticker Star isn't designed for everything to be done at one go. Which is one of the reasons I was dumbfounded that a game like that existed today.

I think thats the moral to my story :P

Edit:

Wait what? Your stealth edit confused me...

Older games like Mega Man (not really the best compariosn since bosses could still be beaten without using the best weapon against a boss albeit harder) required you to do trial and error. I enjoyed that aspect of Sticker Star immensely because I figured it out on my own.

Super Paper Mario was cool. Some PM fans hate on it but it had a neat mechanic and was really funny at points.

Paper Mario as a character would be awesome.

Bosses take wayyyy too long without their weakness in Sticker Star

And I was never aware that they had weaknesses so I was pretty confused every time Kristi told me that I should've used better stickers lol

The game kind of redeemed itself with the squid fight, that was coooool.

But yeah guys, TTYD is the best. Play it pls

Super Paper Mario is the worst one... it had a lot of charm but god was that game absolutely a chore to play.

Oh yes, i see your point. And it was immediately clear to me what i was supposed to do, i knew i wasn't supposed to fight him.
Still pissed me off though :P

Oh hahahah THATS why she said my sticker choice wasn't good :P

That actually makes me appreciate the game more believe it or not.

TTYD was my absolute favorite for sure.

And i realize the irony of what im about to say, but i actually really enjoyed Super Paper Mario. Again wasnt the Paper Mario i signed up for, but still i enjoyed my ride. Pretty awesome dialog.

The regular enemies with lots HP were annoying, but outside of that, I think Super Paper Mario was really fun.

Yea, the game definitely isn't for anyone. And I only played the game in August and knew what to expect, so I wasn't really a part of the initial disappointment that was there at launch.

SPM was weirdly paced, but I liked it overall. It has been such a long time since TTYD though...I would love to see a traditional Paper Mario in that style again for Wii U.

Definitely agree that he would be a great character for smash as well.

SPM had soooo much going for it, everything but the gameplay was fantastic. I just really hated getting lost or having to do tedious things. It just sucked away so much of the fun for me.

Count Bleck was an awesome villain though.

I looooved so many characters from Super Paper Mario.

SPM is pretty nostalgic to me so maybe that's why I hold it in somewhat high regard.

I need to replay it one of these days, though beating TTYD once should probably take precedence over that :p
