Well I'm bored at the moment and wanted to predict the roster for the lols.

I think Sakurai will want to have a lot more newcomers as unlockables. At least I hope so, because the Brawl's unlockables were meh. I think it was only two newcomers, which is just bad. (Not counting Toon Link, since he is basically Young Link, or third party characters we already knew about.) So I think most veterans will be there from the start. Including third parties.

I also think that while Melee and Brawl had 4 characters at most for each series, I think that number will be increased to five in SSB4. So 5 Mario, Side Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon characters.

I will also list reasons as to why I think they will get in.

PS: I may forget some of Brawl's characters because I have bad memory and may not remember everyone that was in it.

PPS: I wll list reasons for some characters and why I think they will get in. This is not my personal wish list, but who I think may get in based on things.

ALBW Link - May be Toon Link or cut due to ALBW being so near the Smash release. But do not think TL is in due to 3DS stage. One of my faves too...
Girahim*(SP?) - He's just bad ass, a huge part of SS, and I hink he'll make it.
Medusa* - Kid Icarus Uprising will get 3 reps just because Sakurai created the game.
Waddle Dee/Other Kirby Character - See above. (Waddle Dee is only notable Kirby character I could think of, may be other character.)
Bayonetta* - Sakurai is friends with Kamiya. Will probably put her in just because of that, maybe keep it hidden since BY is also owned by Sega.
Lucina* - Have'nt played FE:A, but her and Chrom seems likely candidates. Sakurai has said he wanted more female characters so I guess this.
Ridley* - Will be put in based on fan requests, like Villager and Mega Man. 
Mewtwo - Will be re added due to them bringing himback into the spotlight. Already been hinted at.
Igglybuff* - Like Pichu, Sakurai will create a weaker clone of Jigglypuff for the lols. Jigglypuff would be cut. Mainly because Sakurai will want a new Pokemon character, but wouldn't do six Pokemon characters without doing six Mario & Zelda characters.

8 Bit Mario* - The final unlockable. Smash has always been about paying homage to Nintendo classics. What better way than with a 8 bit Mario, that is literally a flat sprite and in its small form. (And yeah I know this would make six Mario characters, well we could just slot it into a retro row...IDK. Just seems like something that could happen.)

Wolf cut due to it seeming unlikely to still have 3 Star Fox characters when the franchise is dead.
Snake cut because Kojima doesn't put MGS on Nintendo systems.
Ike could go either way, don't know much about FE. Just going by the pattern of replacing the secondary character with a character from the recent game.

32 Veterans + 18 Newcomers = 50 Characters. (I wasn't even aiming for 50, just added this all up as I went alone, heh.)

Now that I finished it...yeah, 18 Newcomers seems really unlikely. Well, I will stick to this however and see how close by predictions get.

And yes, I count Igglybuff as a newcomer but not ALBW Link

What about the rule? I feel like that's the most reasonable way to look at it for the few 3rd parties we'll get. Will it hold true for everything smash? nope. why? Sakurai.

Pikmin 3 was directed by Shigefumi Hino and Yuki Kando, and it was produced by Hiroyuki Kimura. All Miyamoto does these days is act as quality control.

They said at E3 that it renders in 1080 and we've had numerous direct feed screenshots at that resolution

I'm talking about Mario Kart 8; there's no way it's rendering at 1080 and most hands-on impressions seemed to verify it's 720. I brought it up to compare it to Smash which is confirmed 1080/60fps but has sparser looking stages as a result.

EDIT: @Ryce To be fair, Sheik more or less tied into Ocarina of Time when Melee came out, even if it's a consistent aspect of Zelda's character in later games. I don't think there's enough of a pattern yet to go off how Sakurai chooses Zelda reps.

Was never good at controlling it and so few characters had it... it'll probably be back but I don't really care much for it.

I haven't tried Gliding much, so I can't say. Mario gliding with his cape should be cool though.

Tons of people loved Snake's inclusion in Brawl. Sakurai even noted this back in August, 2012. I have my doubts about Snake returning, but he is no doubt a very well received character.

It was a GAF post who got apparently insider info but shrugged it off and posted it for "unlikely characters" as his predictions. This occured a day before the E3 reveal, and he did not edit his post, otherwise we'd see the edited timestamp.

Exactly what I wanted to post, except that I didn't know where the leak was. I don't see anything that would point towards the leak being false.

Mega Man is the main character of his series and there haven't been a recent revival of Mega Man games without Mega Man. I don't think the characters' two situations are comparable at all.

If anything, I'd argue that King K. Rool has less to worry about than Mega Man did. The only negative I can think of for King K. Rool is that we haven't heard anything about him by Sakurai; everything else I've seen out of him looks to be either positive or weak arguments made against his inclusion. In comparison, I saw a lot of positives for Mega Man, but also had a lot of private doubts surrounding his inclusion. My main worries were if third-parties would return and if so, how Sakurai would handle them (along with Sakurai being notorious for stating how incredibly difficult it is to add third-parties) and Capcom's greedy attitude and I'd say these are far bigger issues than not making recent appearances. If Mega Man can get in despite those obstacles, then I think a first-party character who's a very important part of the Donkey Kong franchise, is one of the most wanted characters for this game and is much easier to fit in has a very strong chance of showing up.

In Kid Icarus Uprising, if you ran into a treasure chest, it would occasionally sprout legs and start attacking you ferociously. Those dupes were called Mimicuties.

Would translate over really well to Smash Bros.

An anonymous leaker approached his site about knowing six characters who were going to be in the new Smash, guy didn't believe him so never posted the news but decided to post it in the prediction thread for a laugh.

I don't really blame him; there were a TON of people including a couple banned GAFers pretending to know all sorts of stuff about the upcoming Smash for the past couple years.

I have a feeling we might see Mario & Luigi's Ice colors, probably replacing their blue costumes like Luigi's Fire colors replaced his retro colors. I could see Peach getting her new Fire colors from Super Mario 3D World in place of her white dress as well; while I firmly believe we won't be getting any significant representation from a game that new, I don't think a selectable color would be out of the picture.

I do hope the Pokemon (and Sonic, if he returns) have as many color/hat choices as the other characters do. I really don't understand why they have fewer than the others. Pikachu only has four colors/hats total, including his default. Lucario (and Sonic, again, if he returns) could use better color choices, most of them are too difficult to tell apart.

A Zombie or Skeleton Bird item from Wario Land that turns people into invincible zombies for a short period would be cool. Maybe those would work better as neutral assist trophies.
