No, I don't think Smash has referenced the TCG.

As for the former, the evolution could be permanent for that round. It should take some effort-- like gaining a certain percent total off of all opponents-- to be able to evolve. I love the idea of a Pokemon evolving in mid battle, it'd look so neat.

The idea is pretty cool, but probably hard to implement. Let's hope that the Pokemon Company considers that idea for the rumoured Pokemon fighting game though! (you could have a metter that fills out during the battle and lets you evolve, or something like that)

That sounds like a feature that is hard to balance in a fighting game. Like a previous post said, Pokemon don't unevolve so it can't really be a "every time you fill the meter" special move. And if it is a permanent one time special move, that sounds too overpowered.

Not really, as a gimmick, the Pokemon would evolve and get stronger--but also bigger and slower to balance it out. I know it's not happening lol, hypothetically though, it's not really difficult.

Maybe it could be a once-per-stock thing, and the Pokemon respawns as an unevolved form. They'd have to carefully balance it for time and stock though.

But it makes more sense for mega evolutions since pokemon can "unevolve" from those.
