Supporting EA after BF4 clusterfu*k?

I don't get this. It's DICE patching the game and laying patches on the server. I don't see how EA is getting fitted with all the blame. DICE has to be held accountable too.

Well DICE is directly owned by EA. So in the end its EA who decides when a game should get published, if it passes certification, and if its acceptable to publish this kind of game.

While yes DICE are certainly accountable for their products, EA holds the leash and made the conscious decision to release a broken game.

Errrr what clusterfuck?

I'm rank 120 in BF4, so it seems very playable for me. These mentioned issues exist in many other online games.

But as already mentioned, not to the extent displayed here. Yes, previous BF games had a "rocky" start to phrase it politely, but nowhere as much as BF 4. There's also the anger rising from EA being a repeat offender and with the releases getting messier and messier it doesn't bode well for the future of the franchise that many care about.

Also, just because it works well for you doesn't mean that's the case for everyone else.

Good for you. For months it was completely unplayable for me, crashing all the damn time. It also had other weird bugs like sound cutting out completely (for all the people I was playing with too) and such... So not just a problem at my end.

Keep trying to play bf4 on ps4, run into nothing but problems. On the other hand pvz:gw and titanfall have been great on my Xbox one. Think ill just stay away from bf in the future.

For me, the one thing I truly want is Mirror's Edge 2. I do still want to play ME4, the next Battlefield and the new Battlefront, but ME2 comes first. If they fuck that up, goodbye EA.

This.

Mirror's Edge 2 is above everything else for me, and, as much as I want it to blow me away, with all the shit EA has pulled in recent years if I smell a Rat at all I'm out.

What difference could one person make by boycotting a huge mega corporation? I don't know, not much I guess.
The difference you make is to yourself: You don't have to be subjected to EA's endless bullshit.

I think the last EA game I bought was The Saboteur and although I loved it, it pissed me off that EA closed the studio right after.

I don't pay attention to previews and distrust most reviewers and when you do that, it's easy to avoid the bullshit hype machine. I'm EA free and it feels good.

I remember from back in the BF2 days DICE were also not communicating with the community about complaints and were generally lacks about fixing things and leaving the community in the dark about (if at all) upcoming fixes and patches. From my point of view as an outsider, DICE has always had an arrogant kind of feeling about them. Although BF titles in the past generally played fine, it's like there's something fundamentally wrong within DICE's corporate culture. Back then, EA only just purchased DICE, so it's not like EA made them that way, although probably made it worse.

I didn't buy it because all I saw in it was BF3 with a new coat of skin. I liked Bad Company 2 more than both anyways.

I haven't bought an EA game since Rockband 2. Screw them until they stop acting like they care about the customers and start actually caring.

I think people are just tired of the cliche bugs in Battlefield games altogether...

Would be nice if EA just made a finished Battlefield game.

I don't think the company that's making the game should effect your choice. I don't think it matter if you like them or not. If you want a game, get it. In the end your hurting yourself because you deprived yourself of a game. YES bf4 is broken mess that I will never touch again but titanfall works and is great fun. I hate EA with a passion of a thousand suns but that not going to stop me from getting games I want to play.

Here's the thing: if they make games which aren't a clusterfuck (and that I'm interested in, obviously), then I'll support them.

It does not benefit me to shun EA in the hopes they will go down in flames. I want to tell EA "get better, then I will buy your games". I can do that by purchasing the good, and ignoring the bad.

Battlefield, my favourite franchise. Rubberbanding, lag, glitches and crashes. Naval Strike is actually unplayable due to rubberbanding. It's been what, 5 months since it was released? Great. They will probably announce new BF game soon that will come out in 6 months. "We've already got your money, stupid!"

I don't think I've ever been burned this badly. BF4 is great fun when it works, but most of the time it's just a broken piece of shit. I paid 55 euros for the game and 47 euros for the Premium. Yeah, stupid me. I know.

If the rumors are to be believed, EA forced Dice's hand to release a broken product because they had to have a game out to compete against CoD but to also have a big game for the launch of new consoles.

Ok, so I was thinking about actually not supporting EA anymore by buying their software. I was pretty hyped about Titanfall and actually really liked the demo. But I haven't purchased it yet, and if I will I'll buy it used. Too bad those people at Respawn will also be affected.

What difference could one person make by boycotting a huge mega corporation? I don't know, not much I guess. But what if more and more people would stop supporting their business, maybe it could have some positive effect?

OMG, yes, its been a while since i've seen anything posted about this. its like everyone just gave up. I was just thinking the exact same thing the other day "I dont think i've ever been so burned by a product and felt so helpless to do something about it." i was one of the fools that also purchased premium and thought "ah, there is no way they wont eventually fix it" but I've come to realize that they will probably never fix it. I actually think they don't even know how at this point, like they are in over their heads. I tried to check out the new maps and the rubberbanding is unreal, the game was unplayable, no hyperbole.

After being burned by EA (I say EA because Im convinced that they force DICE to release games too early) for the last 3 Battlefield games (BF1943,BF3, BF4) I will no longer be buying Battlefield games on day 1.

There is too much of a history now of releasing a game and then never completely fixing it. BF1943 never had its chat fixed or its lag (ps3). BF3 had shoddy hit detection that was never fixed (ps3) and BF4.....well you all know the story here.

I am not convinced that BF4 will ever be completely fixed...EA will push out another game before that happens.

Its incredibly frustrating because BF are potentially some of the best MP games around but that experience is buried beneath a mountain of technical problems that the customer should never experience.

I'll never buy another EA game ever.

Well.. Maybe.. just Mirror's Edge 2. And Mass Effect 4.. and DA: Inquisition..

I'm done supporting EA I think. Friend of mine said its too hard to avoid them but I disagree. Yea they have games I'd probably like but this whole mess is inexcusable so far in. I left Microsoft easily enough and Sony has plenty of games coming to the PlayStation that finding something comparable to whatever EA has won't be an issue. Why deprive myself of games from other EA studios? Their all under the same umbrella and its only a matter of time before they destroy or milk their titles into junk. Can't believe I actually thought they were turning around when they released Dead Space.

I stopped buying Capcom games for a full year after the way they handled Street Fighter X Tekken, missed out on some games I was looking forward to, and realistically made zero difference to Capcom but it made a difference to me.

What difference could one person make by boycotting a huge mega corporation? I don't know, not much I guess. But what if more and more people would stop supporting their business, maybe it could have some positive effect?

Boycotting is silly and only deprives you of great games. I purchase EA titles on a case-by-case business regardless of the circumstances.

I think Ea should just give up.

Remember when they were this great Publisher poping sports games like Lakers vs Celtics and war games and everybody loved em?

Its funny to look back and see what theyve become. Funny and sad.

Maybe some people value their conscience over any enjoyment they might get from a game and don't want to buy it unless the company responsible stops employing what the person boycotting it considers unethical behavior?

Not saying anything whether through boycott or protest tells the targeted party that its behavior is ok. I think that this is quite obvious with the recent Xbox One Drm, Dark souls 2 downgradaton, Sim city drm and recent broken games launch.

Here's the thing: You don't have to trust any company. You don't have to "support" any company. You are a customer buying individual products, and assuming you aren't compulsive, you can just wait a week or two and look at the experiences of others to see if the game is something you'd enjoy.

This novel approach solves the "problems" of (1) broken game releases, (2) inadequate game content, (3) rapid price drops and (4) pre-release review restrictions. You don't risk missing out on a good title that you'd enjoy because you're too busy "boycotting," and you won't get stuck with a bad game because you're "supporting" anything.

Yeah. I'm absolutely done with EA after BF4.
Which is unfortunate because I prefer BF over other FPS games. I know the issue is with the netcode. I realize every BF game has been like this, but BF4 takes the cake. It is actually unplayable over 50% of the time. I really love the naval strike maps and new mode, but I end up quitting out most of the time due to the rubber band issues.

You aren't alone in this OP, enough people have been burned bad by EA in 2013. They got enough negative attention for it to effect their sales of the BF franchise going forward.

Personally, it's pretty easy to just keep ignoring a company that makes zero games I care about. Sucks that the games are broken for those who do like them though.

My kid keeps asking for premium for BF4 on PS4 but I refuse to support that game. Traded mine in after maybe 10 days of that broken bullshit. I will get Garden Warfare day one if it ever fucking comes to PS4, but even that has left a sour taste in my mouth for EA with the Xbone exclusive release. I won't buy anything else from them until I get solid GAF impressions from now on.

I bought BF3 and BF4 and both were disappointing, didn't play it even close to as much as bad company 2.

I didn't buy Titanfall and I am fine with that and if I don't buy Garden warfare(I really want to play it) then I am completely done with EA.

*snip*

You are not one person though, I also boycott EA. Primarily because of Origin though. I don't have a problem with Origin existing, in fact I want it to. I just don't trust them and won't buy games locked to that service. Same applies to Uplay.

And what if a game comes out from EA that you really want + doesn't feature any of this "unethical behavior"? Are you going to boycott that game too?

It only takes a quick read of reviews, opinion pieces and some Twitch / YouTube viewing to realise that Titanfall is not a buggy mess.

I feel your opinion is unjustified. Respawn are not an EA studio.

Well they at least made sure that I won't touch a new Battlefield for a while. When it comes to other EA games I ill evaluate them on a game by game basis. Currently I don#t have anything by EA on my radar though.

I'll buy games that look interesting, like the new Bioware ones. Then again, a franchise I never cared about like Battlefield can't really burn me on them.

Still no RaS for PS4 either, really ruins any sort of competitive organised play. Guess they can't charge for things which won't work though.

Having said that it's been much more stable for me recently which is why I'm desperate for more info on renting servers......

As much as I feel I've wasted my money on BF4, I'm still pulling the trigger on Mirror's Edge 2. It was one of my most wanted sequels, and I don't think I could pass on a game like that due to a publisher.

How many hours have you put into BF4? What platform?

I'm on Xbox One and my 300 hours experience tells it's a piece of shit.

PC, and about 120 hours, due to work. Otherwise I would have put a lot more into it.

Your comment however is really weird. 300 hours of experience,,, and I hated it,,,, what is wrong with you?

After getting to colonel rank 15 or so on bf4(ps4) I just quit and traded it in. A lot of things led up to this: I was tired of the whole modern fps trope, all I played was tdm( was tired of big battles that went on for 40 mins), and the couple of months after launch that were full of glitches, rubberbanding, and crashes made me lose trust in ea and dice.

Despite the lack of content, Titanfall(pc) is a great game and I thoroughly enjoy it, much more so than battlefield. But, this has to do more with me not enjoying battlefield fundamentaly as a game as much as I used to. I think we need to be able to differentiate between the gems that ea have in their deposit and not let the dirty ones discourage us from trying the others. I am hoping bioware's next games will be great, but I am going to wait on reviews before I decide to take the dive.

I don't get this. It's DICE patching the game and laying patches on the server. I don't see how EA is getting fitted with all the blame. DICE has to be held accountable too.
That's not what I wrote. I think EA shares responsibility with DICE. I think the server count (which directly translates to costs) was a corporate decision.
Every single game they make has a superior counterpart elsewhere.
I would gladly play anything similar to Battlefield. It doesn't even have to be better, just comparable. What game do you mean?

"Buy Battlefront, I will. If broken, the game is, support EA I will no longer."

This is exactly what i think. I feel the hatred inside me after Sim City and BF4.

I really wish another dev, preferably a more competent one than DICE would take a crack at creating a large scale Battlefield-type game as DICE seems to have lost the ability to QA their games, which is a damn shame because when they work their shooters are some of the best out there. I mean BC2 had bugs like the incorrect your team won message at the end of the round but some of the bugs still in BF4 after numerous patches are just embarrassing. DICE's QA team or whoever decides that stuff has passed QA or is not an issue really should get shitcanned and replaced with people who are actually going to take into consideration that their fans paid their hard earned money to buy the game.

Since the game released I have not been able to play on a Conquest Small or with the new expansion Carrier Assault Small server even though I'm presented with the option in the server browser. The 64 player maps have all kinds of lag and rubberbanding issues that come and go with each patch but since the damn 32 player version never shows up on PS4 I'm not sure if those fair any better.

The blame lies on both DICE and EA. Despite DICE's technical excellence, their ability to get rid of bugs is pretty damn pathetic and usually either ends up in a new bug being created or no fix at all. EA pushing for the game to come out on nearly every console under the sun to go up against COD at launch was a terrible decision but the game is still a broken sack of shit months and numerous patches after release.

I'm not sure who this falls on probably EA since they cut the checks but the game needs servers with a higher tick rate. Yeah there is a lot of complex shit going on that has to be tracked and synchronized for 64 players but as much money as the game brings in cheaping out on the servers negatively affects player experience which results in folks saying that COD feels better since that game uses both hitscan and does not have terrible netcode to contend with in addition to the bullet travel in BF games. The shooting mechanics in BF is so much better than in COD but when you shoot at someone who is showing on your screen in one place only to get killed by them because they were actually somewhere else, that shit gets frustrating.

There are a few games EA are putting out that I'm pretty sure I'll be getting like Battlefront but I think I might hold off until actual forum users post their games instead of preorder and buying Premium from the start like I did with BF4 since reviewers didn't tell us shit about all the issues with the game what with them playing on LAN in a controlled environment and all that. Yeah, I'll miss out on preorder bonuses but I think I'm done buying EA games at launch. Same thing goes for DICE too although they used to be one of my favorite devs and over the years have made the games I've put the most time into the last two generations.

As someone who loved BFBC2, and had hundreds of hours of fun and memories paying BF3 with friends, and was really hyped for BF4, I will never buy another Battlefield at launch, and never buy Premium again, ever. From terrible design decisions like removing pregame party/squads, segregated DLC servers, poor performance and optimizations, I've had enough. I couldn't play it for months after launch without frequent crashes that wiped preferences and single player progression, and when I did, it was a buggy and frustrating mess.

And there are still major issues, and surprise surprise, they're putting out dlc before they're all fixed.

Yes, EA is full of dodo heads vampire sucking money leeches. But DICE has come to be a shitty dev team imo. Just look at the patch that messed up the killcam where you will die and the kill cam will show you a used condom swimming in water as being the person that killed you. HOW THE FACK did that pass quality testing. It would have taken them to just test the game internally, ONCE, to figure the killcam got messed up because of the patch...

Surprisingly Titanfall has very few issues on the technical side of things.

Only issues with the game are dev choices regarding MM at launch.
