Look, I enjoy some good anime time to time. But it's ok to admit that something you enjoy is ridiculous.

I'm into pro-wrestling, but I'm not for a second going to suggest it's the same as being an NFL fan. Wrestling is fucking duuuuuuumb.

What I'm saying is, anime is for jerks. Come to terms with that and be happy about the thing you enjoy, without feeling the need to defend it at every turn.

Oh god I'm getting this scenario in my head.

*white immigrant goes up to Japanese woman holding his phone up to her*

Girl: Umm, excuse me, what is this, why are you showing me this?

Guy: It's a picture of my bedroom. Look, not a single figurine or poster. So...s'up babe?

Girl: *breaks into tears* I...I've been waiting for someone like you for so long!

Then they get married and divorce two months later.

Pretty weird shit. A bit off putting to say the least but that mouse pad really sells the whole image. To be frank it's the kinda thing I think of when someone talks about anime, all the weird shit.

Let's be honest here, his collection and room setup isn't some hobby like some appreciation of good anime, it's a jerk off station. That is why people are taking a piss out of the guy. Hey, if this guy wants to spend all his money to make the best jerk off station money can buy well good for him. But, let's not pretend this some form of deep appreciation of anime culture that must be defended. Also, it probably isn't "healthy." But, I don't know much about the guys personal life to make such a statement.

I don't know, is all that poster from nukige (fap game for those who didn't know) or more story oriented eroge?

Question: does this girl have "mental issues"?

Won't lie, would love to see what her room looks like when Persona 5 comes out lol.

No, the criticism is focused purely on men (you won't see people on this forum telling women to get laid or that they're virgins/live in the basement for collecting such merchandise). Considering that, what she's doing here is perfectly fine, even more so if they have an attractive appearance.

I've only skimmed through this thread, but my impression is that the guy is fairly good looking and has a girlfriend. He's doing better than many GAFers and yet he's getting a bunch of shit in this thread.

Stop sending photos of little girls. At work u know ... haha w

uhh yeah maybe I won't look at his Twitter.

Actually, this exact comic is the reason western otakus are called weeaboos. Some backstory: The comic is from a website called The Perry Bible Fellowship; the site has a lot of offbeat comics, some of which are NSFW, and this is one of them. The comics are done by a small group of artists, which is why they have a few different art styles.

Now, as you can probably tell, the comic doesn't have anything to do with otakus, and you're probably wondering where the association came from. The answer is simple: 4chan. The owner of 4chan, moot, was frequently accused of being a so-called "Wapanese", a portmanteau of white and Japanese, due to his apparent obsession with Japanese culture. He was sick of this term being used, so he added some kind of script that would change every instance of the word "wapanese" on 4chan into what was then a purely nonsensical term, "weeaboo", that he got from this comic. People continued to use the term, however, and the association stuck, with weeaboo completely replacing wapanese in the popular vernacular. This happened several years ago, I think.

All I meant is that I think it's dumb that the comic is now associated with japanese nerdisms. I know the 4chan wordfilter backstory, I looked it up as late as last week in fact :lol

Regardless of the subject matter, a photo of someone posing in their small room, covered wall to wall with stuff, gives off the impression of being imprisoned by your own obsessions. So yes, that applies to the Persona 4 girl, too.

Got zero problem with the man being devoted to something, I mean you look at GAF and you'll see a lot of community threads for various things that people are extremely dedicated too. Got no problem with anime usually and I've seen some crazy shit happen in those as most of us have I bet, but when it comes to the Moe thing, yeah I find that disturbing. It pushes the age look and mentality way too far.

Yikes! I thought him bowing to a picture on a phone at an alter was crazy, then I saw his mouse pad. Obsessing over anything to this magnitude can't be healthy.

I've been into anime since the mid 1970s. But when I see stuff like this, I can kinda understand the knee-jerk hatred of "wee-a-boos." Fetishism naturally seems weird to anyone who doesn't share it. And I'd say this guy goes way beyond mere fetishism. This is clearly obsession.

If I'm reading this right, he's claiming to promote Japanese culture?

lol and this too XD

Between this dude and MelonPan.

There's something about Scandinavians and Japan that seems to attract attention from the internet at large.

Melonpan lives that baller life.

Ferrari 360 is a dreadfully ugly looking car
He has a Laura dakimakura. I can respect that.

It's funny, I enjoy anime and other geeky stuff but I still wouldn't decorate my house with nor dress up in this obsessed stuff. I care too much about my image in public maybe. I've never seen somebody wearing anime stuff here in Texas.

I read Swedish somehow, actually I think MelonPan is Swiss too now that I think of it.
Guess it's time to get nailed to a cross by EUgaf
But I'm American so it doesn't bother me.

At work people know about my collection. The most negative reaction to it actually is from my Dad and he reacts negatively to everything anyway (and then he goes to spend 12k on a thermal imaging camera, granted those are very useful)

Probably has something to do with him posting about how he was concerned that the huge amount of porno he bought would be seized by U.S. Customs due to its offensive content.

Or that picture with him wearing a mask designed to look like a young girl's underwear.

I don't get the hype for this cartoon stuff. A friend tried to explain it to me (I went to a retailer with him where he bought some bluray collection) but I don't see the appeal in it, it just looks like a kids show IMHO.

If you're into that... well then enjoy.

I mean I got a couple naked dolls and some dildos on my desk next to my anime doll and porno, but I dunno if I can go all out like that. Can't hate it though.
