Switch 2 is a magnificent little beast. Can it handle GTA6?

We've already seen a few comparison videos Switch 2 vs PS5/XSS (Cyberpunk, Hogwarts, Yakuza). Switch 2 versions are running on par to PS5/XSS or maybe just slightly lower quality, either way the difference is marginal šŸ¤

My question is can Switch 2 handle GTA6?

I can't say for sure since they aren't any gameplay videos out yet, but certainly with some cutbacks to the RTGI implementation it should. The CPU will not be an issue like some folks are speculating that they can't port around.

Is it coming to the Series S?

Oh no...

If the game uses mesh shaders, I could see an impossible port in the making with very aggressive culling. Feature wise I mean they'll have to prep for Series S too which has less VRAM.

CPU wise it'll depend how much they transferred technology to GPU vs physics on CPU. But GTA V was running on a PS3, with imo GTA IV having better physics too on that CPU... RDR 2 on Jaguar CPUs, I'm not so sure that suddenly they'll max out CPU utilization.

Am I missing something here? Last I checked Switch 2 ports were running at greatly diminished capacity - something close to a PS4.

Don't get me wrong I'm getting a Switch 2, but it sure as hell won't be the place I play third party games.

wrong. Yakuza, Switch 2 is better than PS4 version running on PS5

Hogwarts, Switch 2 version looks on par if not better than XSS version

You know you are just deluding yourself, right? (and I bought a Switch 2, so this comment is not fueld by 'hate').

GTA 6 will run perfectly fine on the Switch 2 when Rockstar Games remasters it on RenderWare.

Series S version will already exist without any upscaling. I dont know why people rule it out honestly.

Only way its a show stopper is CPU, not GPU imo.

But again, Rockstar was making open world games with crazy physics and simulations on Xbox 360/PS3 & Xbox one/PS4 shit Jaguar CPUs. I'm not convinced they max out CPU suddenly.

If it has YouTube you can pretend to play it.

Serious post: Switch 1 can't handle GTA5. Especially in handheld.

R* will port GTA4 and RDR2 and call it a day.

It will run at 2fps, Digital Foundry will claim it's an "impossible port" and Nintendo sheep will make 50 threads about how Switch 2 is more powerful than a supercomputer.

They'd have to cut the resolution and framerate massively, cut down the NPC'S drastically, cut down textures massively etc etc. They'd have to chop so much of it down that it wouldn't even be the same game anymore. Like they could possibly do it, but why would you even want to buy a game that's so cut down and looking like shit. Don't even bother at that point.

The "marginal" difference has been half the framerate as the switch 2 runs the performance mode of PS5/XSX at lower resolution/settings at 30fps. If GTA6 is already 30fps with no performance mode, you can't really do that.

Edit: It can definitely be done in theory, but the game would probably look unrecognisable with RT and most expensive effects stripped out. Would Rockstar be willing to put out such a subpar version of the game? I don't know. Do they even have fallbacks such as pre-calculated lighting for removing RTGI? If the game was developed with RT in mind from the start, they might not which is tons of development time and a huge file size increase.

Depending on how much they downgrade the game... Yes, let's say it can handle it. Just remember the Mortal Kombat 1 Switch port and you may regret asking for a port of GTA6 on it.

On par? What's the frame rate for the Switch 2 versions again?

Can you give me $100k? If not it's ok but that will be your answer to your question.

Jeez I understand Switch 2 it's a good leap over the first Switch but a marginal difference with a ps5? Some of you are completely out of the touch when he talks about the new Nintendo console.

Soon they will be running games on a RTX 5090 at 1080p on low settings with RT disabled just so they can make videos saying the Switch 2 compares to it...
