Switch 2 upgrades look worse than Wii U emulation upscaling

I love how over 6 years ago when I was emulating BotW at 4k 60 fps, I jokingly posted around on various forums how I can't wait for Nintendo to charge their fan base more money for the same fucking game again but with still lower quality than I was getting with Cemu back then. And here we are, it's happened. Embarrassing. To think, there are Nintendo fans salivating at the thought of paying more for a game they already own and still getting an inferior experience. Shakespearean.
 
Looks like Nintendo hit it out of the park with the Switch 2 given all these desperate/salty takes from the PCMRs and SDF. Guys, just because you have a gaming PC (I do) or a PS5 (I do), you don't have to feel threatened by the Switch 2.

Depends if they add more than just a framerate unlock. Most PS4 games already had quality modes for PS4 pro and received free 60fps unlock patches. The $10 upgrades were for native ps5 versions of the games and received additional tweaks to the performance and quality modes. Tears of the Kingdom had terrible image quality, I have no issue paying $10 if they are going to clean that up, add dlss, and 60fps.

Here's a two year old video of Breath of the Wild natively upscaled to 4K from the Wii U. It looks better than anything upgraded on the Switch 2. People are in denial,

That game ran absolutely flawless @4k60 with various graphical enhancements on a 3080 after the 2nd patch barely 2-3 days after the game's release when the external shader cache file became available and the glitches in the underworld got fixed.

edit:
Was talking TotK there , but I played BoTW emulated back then, too, though not directly on release and with a considerably weaker GPU (2080) and I had the same flawless experience.

No idea about this comparison, but I do know I find the upgrade disappointing. When they showed it during the Treehouse I could still clearly notice grainy/aliases grass and just aliasing present here and there. Not nearly as crisp and clean as I had hoped.

post a video with a framecounter visible while you're walking around the central hub with hyrule castle in the background.

Your 3080 (I have one too) has way less to do with emulator performance than your cpu, so I already know you have no idea what you're talking about.

NO ONE holds 60fps there. Other areas are rough too, but definitely there.

Also no amount of shader compilation completely eliminates shader stutter on yuzu and ryujinx. They aren't nearly as efficient as cemu in that department

to say it was flawless 2-3 days after release is the biggest load of shit I've read on this forum. I was there.

you either have the worst case of "runs fine on my machine", played the game for 5 minutes, or are outright lying.

He's using a clarity shader. If you prefer that contrasty aesthetic with sharpening then sure.

The colors will pop more with HDR on switch 2, which the youtube streams can't display

Or go look at any recent reddit thread where you'll see plenty of people with top of the line graphics cards and cpus complaining that they're STILL dropping to 40/50fps in areas. Current date. And you're talking about 2-3 days after release? give me a break. game had horrible outlines around sky islands, invisible weapon glitches, shadow and texture glitches, unremovable fsr artifacts, and no native 4k for months after release. Again, I was there too. I know how it went down.

better than switch? oh yeah. but the switch 2 version is going to be the best way to play

precompiled shaders helped, but they were rarely complete and could break with any update to the game, emulator or settings. Even still, there was stutter with precompiled shaders.

I played through nearly the whole game right after the underworld got fixed and the shader cache and the ultrawide mod became available.
I encountered zero bugs, nothing. The game crashed once or twice and that was it. And the only graphical glitch I encountered was some vignetting in the clouds during skydives from the island. And I had an almost locked 60fps pretty much everywhere on the world at least every time I actually looked at the counter. If the FPS dropped around Hyrule castle then they at least never dropped out of VRR range because I absolutely didn't feel anything. That emulated game ran better and was more polished than 99% of regular releases at that point.

That quality is far beyond what the switch 2 will be able to deliver and with the power difference that really is no surprise....

I guess you're just special, man. Here's a reddit thead from 2 months ago... Pretty unanimous in the comments that there's shader stutter and large frame drops depending on the area. Many of them have a better setup than you.

Hell, here's a youtube video of someone running it on a 4090/13900kf in one of the LEAST demanding areas of the game. You can see the stutters and observe the framedrops on the counter yourself. It also demonstrates one of the many visual glitches (black screen on weapon swap menu) that persisted for months after release and still require manual fixes

But I guess your much shittier PC just happened to outperform his and everyone in that thread? and everyone on every other reddit thread concerning totk emulation that you can look up for yourself?

I mean hey, if you don't notice drops from 60 to 45/50fps then good on you. That experience will not hold for the majority on an enthusiast forum

This nonsense discussion reminds me of the CP2077 release where I played through the whole game and the only bugs I encountered were 2 t pose NPCs while my PC should've gone up in flames upon installation according to Reddit and other demented social media echo chambers at that time.

Also are you kidding me with that vid? The counter is almost glued to 60@4k with mods. The hardest drop, once, is like 4 fps for half a second which is much better than most bona fide console releases and infinitely better than what any available and soon to be released Nintendo hardware can do....At this point I'm not sure if you're not just a troll....
If not you should maybe start trying things yourself and stop making the complaints of a few your gospel otherwise you'll just continue spouting utter nonsense like you do here.

I played it bro. At release and for months after. I even replayed it recently with totk optimizer. It's finally in a decent place, but by no means polished or rock solid... and it requires an entire third party program outside of the emulator to run in that state, which requires its own setuo.

Despite all that, I enjoyed totk on emulator. I also enjoyed cyberpunk at launch. That doesn't mean I was ignorant of the issues they had.

The best version of those games will be the emulated one for the foreseeable future that is a simple matter of power, I don't understand how that is even debatable. Best doesn't mean "accessible" after all, how many people dump and emulate after all.

The point was it couldn't even hold 60fps in one of the least demanding areas in the game on a fucking 4090 and great cpu, man. And the majority of the mods are for performance optimization. Give your head a shake. The 4090 is the second best GPU in the world. So yes, it stands to reason that if that setup can't hold 60fps (4k isn't much of a factor on emulation compared to cpu demands) then it probably is not a better version than the switch 2 version that we've seen holding a locked 60fps with no shader stutter.

How do we know it will hold 60 on Switch 2. 😆 especially how they ran in the sw1. Remember these are still emulated. I would not be shocked if we saw drops on the sw2.

I think the Switch 2 is a good console and that it will have a successful future. But these upgrades are a joke, and charging any money for them is an even bigger joke. It should be a complete freebie.

PC games receive much bigger upgrades and they many times make them free. Witcher Enhanced Edition, Bioshock Collection Remastered…
