Switch 2 will benefit greatly from the PS4/XBO & PS5/XBS cross-gen debacle

is this assuming no one who owned a SW had a console/PC to play those games?

i think the portable factor to play "real gamez" is way too overstated.

the other question is:
how expensive are these ports going to be?

But I think yes, we are going to see a lot of ports. I'm just not sure they are going to sell that well.
There was over half a billion third party sales on Switch, so that's a size software pie for publishers to aim for.

Switch 2 will aim to exceed that.

Wasn't a big criticism of Wii U that it got tons of ports of old games that everyone already played? Similar to how PC users don't care about a Sony game if it's a year or more late.

I think it will be a huge success.
It will already attract people who only owned a Switch, but no PlayStation or XBOX to catch up on some great games they have missed.

Furthermore it’s ideal for people who travel a lot, have a long commute to work etc to play some games they might have missed otherwise.

I suppose it would be appealing to people who want to play those games on the go (assuming they don't have a Portal that meets their needs). If your Switch is docked most of the time, as mine would be, you would want to play those third-party games on a stronger system.

There's an entire generation of gamers that didn't own a PS4 or Xbox (many either younger or female) but are 100% hooked into the Nintendo ecosystem.

Then you have gamers that owned a PS4/Xbox but didn't pick up certain games and will be Swayed to get the port on Switch just have the game portably.

Games like;
Persona 5
Nier Automata
Ace Combat 7
And Red Dead Redemption have already shown to have increased overall game sales and performed extremely well on Switch. There's no reason why that phenomenon can't/won't continue on Switch 2

at 70 USD?

as I just said. I think we are going to see a lot of ports but I'm not sure they are going to sell that well (especially if they are at full price). the support will dwindle over time.

Not every game will be released @ $70, esp if it's an older port. There are many games even on PS5 that don't release @ $70.

Publishers realize what they can and can't get away with when it comes to pricing, especially on a Nintendo platform and if it's an older port. Expect Only the newest games that cost the most to develop to release @ $70.

I think gaming really is doomed - for me at least.

Switch 2's main selling points are going to be portable (old hat) Elden Ring - and ultra safe, ultra casual Mario Kart. That is the template.
So third party support is going to heavily lean into all those Ps4/5 games that couldn't run on the switch.

More broadly - the notion of taking chances is over, completely.
The dream of F-Zero GX 2 is dead - never going to happen.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
The difference is that literally none of that is particularly exciting to core gamers, who are 100% likely to have had a system capable of playing those games for like a decade already. If you really care about portability or are super casual, sure. But those sorts of games aren't the stuff that lets Nintendo get away with their weak hardware.
