It says right in the op that playing zelda gets about 3 hrs. You really think mario, splatoon, mario kart, or any other non indie game is gonna get better battey life? Sure VC and some indie games will get 4 hrs. Outside that good luck getting anything better than the change time.

My concern is if the batteries will have the obnoxious power bleed that the Gamepad does.
My N3DS seems to die in about the same time...and you can play while its charging.
Battery tech has not advanced at the same rate as specs have. I have a gaming laptop for example that has all the bells and whistles and gets maaaaybe 3 hours on a good day. Games are demanding on batteries. This is a fact of life.

Doesn't change how batteries work. Pretty much every battery-based electronic will drain from continuous use. Nintendo is doing what a majority of electronics companies do, yet somehow they're the scum of the Earth because they aren't engineering wizards?
What's weird? It's a fairly sizable battery to charge and the system drains it fairly quickly due to the substantial graphics output.
Your phone battery will have half its initial battery life after a while. Lithium batteries are terrible, and it's sad there isn't an inexpensive alternative to them in today's time.

I mean if that's the case it's just idiotic. There's not even any real cost saving measure since you're using USB-C. It's just shortsighted and fucking lazy.
If this thing has a "2-6 hour battery life" and you're charging it, that means they managed to design a device which literally would drain while charging...Which seems..........absolutely unfathomable. It would be the second largest tech engineering design disaster behind the Galaxy Note 7.

Nintendo themselves says 3 hours for Zelda. I highly doubt that isn't based on ideal conditions. But please, keep defending shit battery life and shit charge time.

In an ideal world we would be able to take it mobile and play all day, but thats not the world we live in.
Hell I am lucky if I can get my PS4 controller to last more than 3 hours. And with my cell phone I always bring my charger cause I know without it, with real use, I am going to be left in the lurch very easily.
The charge time, I don't see a concern with, that time can be spent... playing... at home.
It's best not to view it as a handheld, and just a console that you can take mobile and play for a bit. Probably shouldn't spent 3+ hours at the park with it with no power plugged in.

As one person pointed out, this is most likely from 1% to 100% charging because of how batteries charge.

The main problem is they're marketing this thing as being portable but literally every bit of design we've seen says this is a very terrible idea. I say this as someone who spunked down a preorder on the master edition of Zelda and a Switch this morning.
No one is saying it needs to have the battery life of an early 2000s Nokia phone, but as I said before, their charge times seem to imply that this thing could literally be draining while you try and charge it.

Come on people. Nintendo put in the best battery they could for the price they aimed at. It's actually a pretty good battery for a tablet style device.
The charging time. But you're right, charge it up to 90% and don't let it drop under 20% and it should charge faster.

Going by the games, these aren't games designed for mobile and mobile power. Obviously they are gonna demand a lot from the battery.
Better battery life would be awesome, don't get me wrong, but I think all this was to be expected. Battery life is shit in general and something like this I expected to be, pretty much right what it is.
I'll wait for more information, but I'd guess that it could play and charge just fine, but again with the power it must demand to process these games... I dunno seems right in line.
Maybe you all have fantastic mobile devices, but all of mine, if I do anything at all taxing with them, battery and charging goes to shit. Just the nature of the beast.
Can demand amazing things from hardware, but if you expected this to have amazing battery life and be super mobile and a pure mobile device... well I dunno.
To me its always seemed clear, you play this at home, but hey if you wanna go on the train for an hour or to the park, you can do that for a bit.
