Citron got an update last week. Heard it's nice, but I haven't tried it yet.
Exactly
Kirby and the forgotten lands is one of the underrated graphical showcases of the Switch, I played it recently and wanted it to be in 60 fps so bad because its animations and deserved it so it could be better appreciated
At 4k emulated it's pure eye candy

Pick one.
Both can be true and you don't have to be that offended regarding the truth. Aesthetic is all about the symbols, glyphs, animated style, sounds, gameplay, and setting. Bland and ugly is related to the lack of technical ability on the console with not so dense areas, poor texture filtering, low resolutions, draw distance issues, etc.

Aesthetic is everything you see. Everything.

I am playing switch games on my TV and have the internal resolution cranked up to 4k. Certain titles like the Mario's, Kirby and the forgotten lands, Zeldas, and all other games that depend on artwork for their looks is just stunning. Kirby for example looks better than some animation I have seen. It's kinda like playing remastered switch games ( I physically own most before you judge) and the results look superb on my 65 inch Quantum dot oled display.

This is emulation
A YouTube video would be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

If Nintendo is smart, they follow Microsoft's example and provide resolution and performance boosts for Switch games on the Switch 2.

That would definitely make me much more interested in purchasing a Switch 2.

Dataminers found indications of 60fps code in Xenoblade Chronicles. There's some incomplete code in there. Maybe it's being considered.
... and yes, it would breathe new life into Switch users old libraries.

Being an artist for Nintendo must be a frustrating business knowing that the assets you produce, scale up so beautifully but only ever get seen (legally) at dogshit resolutions.

Is that a bad thing?
There is one big difference. Yuzu use to have to connect to some server to work when I used it awhile back. Sudachi and other forks are stand alone so even if they are pulled off their sites, they still will work. Again, You do not have to pirate to use these either. You can dump your own roms and play them.

Yeah, I agree. Massive difference between emulated games that are upscaled taking advantage of PC hardware vs running Switch native games.
What's insane is they do not even need texture work. It's like Supercharging the Switch Dock.

unless you have crap eyes, resolution massively affects IQ

it just lets you see more of what was always there
Well it depends on the source Res too.

For example: Switch games benefit greatly from Emulation because their source resolution was 720p, 900p, or 1080p.

On the other side of the spectrum, try blowing up an original Playstation game with it's low source resolution and it looks like a complete hot mess.

Nintendo has always been pretty good about texture quality.. I mean I emulate GameCube games and they look incredible in higher resolutions
Wii Games as well. One of my favorite Wii games is Punchout remake and it looks great @4k

A google search, watching youtube videos, and getting off your lazy ass will help.
? You made the thread, is it so hard to upload a video to illustrate what you describe? I want to see how your own rig runs it and ask you about your specs and settings. But I guess that's too much to ask.

sounds like you might be talking about upscaling.
upscaling from 720p-1080p to 4k looks decent.
upscaling from a ps1 resolution (320x240) will looks like crap.

but if you emulate a ps1 game and up the internal resolution to something like 6400x4800 (400x resolution), then output to 4k... it looks soooooo clean, and youll notice many of the textures are surprisingly high res.

I will try that, thanks

Check out the Zelda 4k RTX vids on YouTube done with emulation.

It looks pretty good, but still looks very bland. It's missing proper rockfaces, rocks, and minute details that would bring the world more to life. Instead, it just has basic terrain with blurry textures. I used ChatGPT to enhance an image from Zelda BotW. This is what I'm hoping to see with Switch 2

All I've ever wanted from games is a clean image. It's what held me back from getting a Switch and it's what's a real shame about backwards compatibility on consoles. If consoles could perform even a simple internal resolution upgrade option for BC they would be amazing. A simple generic "This might even make your game run worse or be unstable" advanced option built into the BC stuff would be all that was needed.

a clean image is a huge goal of mine too.
when there's no shimmering, pixel crawl, aliasing, etc. it looks so much better and immersive to me.
it's why i like to throw money at a PC--armored core 5 looked too soft to me at native 4k, so i just put the resolution higher. love being able to do that.

theres a decent chance switch2 will offer BC at a higher res via upscaling.
i doubt they'll increase the internal res though. hope im wrong.
