Switch games recommendation

So GAF, I just bought a Switch 2 and I don't own an original Switch, this thread is for you beautiful Switch connoisseurs to make recommendations of the best Switch games to play. They can be the obvious classics, hidden gems or just games you like.

Time to drift my joycons!

I'm not going to recommend the obvious ones (you should already have bought Xenoblade) so I'm going for Live a Live. Really enjoyable rpg with lots of different characters. Every character has his own play style and story. In the end it all comes together for an apic finale. I enjoyed it more than the Octopaths, which are also great games.
Other games I enjoyed were Grandia I/II, Star Ocean, Hollow Knight, and Astral Chain.

There's just so many games. I won't recommend the 10+ million sellers because you know what they are.

Metroid Dread is excellent if you enjoy that type of game. The gameplay is extremely tight, the visuals are fantastic and the boss fights are so well done
Megaman Battle Network Collection - Six games. You can skip 1 and jump straight into 2.
Xenoblade Chronicles 1/2/3 - if you are in the mood for 80+ hour rpgs with some of the best music and story
Pikmin 4 - Extremely gorgeous in-spite of the console its on and it's so charming
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze - Pretty much the best 2D platformer ever made and pretty damn challenging if you're into that sort of thing

If you get the online membership (especially with the expansion) you also get access to a huge backlog of retro games if you're feeling nostalgic.

Right now I'd just say start with TotK Switch 2 edition and Donkey Kong Bananza.

Depends how much money you've got to be honest.

Metroid Dread was a favourite of mine on the Switch Oled.

Mario Kart World would be an obvious one if you like kart racers.

Think the OP is after Switch 1 recommends.

I have also recently started going through Switch library. Haven't played a whole lot of them but will rank them. I would recommend anything I have scored 8 or above.

1. LOZ: Skyward Sword - 10/10.
Perfection

2. SM Odyssey - 9/10.
Amazing

3. LOZ TOTK - 9/10.
Playing this currently. Flip flopping on how good this is. Some frustrating elements mixed with amazing stuff.

4. Metroid Dread - 8/10
Best 2D gameplay ever. Not great metroidvania.

5. LOZ BOTW - 8/10
Amazing design. But too empty and too many annoyances.

6 Super Mario Wonder - 6/10
Too easy and boring. Dropped it.

7 Pokemon Legends Arceus - 4/10
Why would anyone play this?

I will mention some of the hidden ones:

Paranormasight- Lovely visual novel
Guns of Fury - Metal Slug metroidvania
Logiart Grimoire - Probably the best picross game ever

Agree with everything, except I think Arceus is the best Pokemon game since Black/White.

Metroid Prime Remastered is a must play. Still one of the best games ever, made better and more beautiful.
and it's not expensive.

if you haven't played it, The Obra Din is a masterpiece.

Metroid Prime remastered
Cuphead, if you like punishment
Super Mario 3D all-stars, if you can find it
Link's Awakening
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Iron Meat
Old Skies (fantastic if you like point and click adventure games)

What kind of games are you into? And what other platforms do you have?

As far as hidden gems, I'll recommend:

Lunistice ($10 PS1/Saturn style platformer with great controls and a banger soundtrack)
Cruisn' Blast (Fun over the top arcade racer)

Basically every first party Nintendo game is great.
Surely that's why you bought the machine? not to enjoy third party Triple A games at a blistering 30fps.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land, SMB: Wonder, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Odyssey, Captain Toad, Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom.
They're masterworks, all. You can't go wrong.

Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Bayonetta 3, Bower's Fury, Mario Party Superstars, Metroid Prime, Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the Forgotten Land

That's certainly one of the takes of all time.
I loved it on the Wii btw, but haven't gotten around to playing the Switch version yet. Which control scheme were you using?
Buttons only.

I think I found the colour palette very pleasing, pacing and exploration spot on. Game and map gave enough hints so that I was never lost for too long.

A bit lengthy but was enjoying it so a good thing.

Dont go for Xenoblade If you have OCD like me, 30hours into the game and i didnt left Colony 9 ( first town ) , the numbers of fetch Quest exceeds any MMO i have played.

Combat and Music are really good.

My sugestion is Stardew Valley, my most players game on Switch 1

Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo.

Best Zelda-style indie game out there.

I know people have legitimate qualms with the art style but with Advance Wars 1 and 2 you get two of the best TB games ever in one package. And you can play the entire Pikmin series on the device and all the games are great

Tears of the Kingdom
Smash
Luigi's Mansion
Pikmin
Switch Sports
Animal Crossing
Metroid Prime
DK Tropical Freeze
Pokemon Sword/Shield - enjoyed em over the newer more recent stuff.

Cant really go wrong with most first party offerings across the board. Pretty much the reason i find owning a Nintendo console as essential.

Seek out a physical copy of Bravely Default 2 before they become (more) scarce, because the HD remake of the original on Switch 2 will stir interest in it.

Out of all the stuff I played on the Switch, those were my favorite games:

Shin Megami Tensei V
Metroid Dread
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
Live A Live
Octopath Traveler I and II
Hollow Knight
Baba Is You

/Linkin Park plays

"It's starts with one!"

"Even though I tried, it all fell apart."

I was in a similar situation to you. There really is too much to name.

I'd start with some of the upgraded games like Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 3, as they really shine with the new hardware. A fun, sort of hidden gem that runs well on Switch 2, is Bakeru. It's on PC as well, so maybe you'd rather it there, but it looks great on Switch 2 and is really fun if you're into some classic gaming.

Isn't that the Goemon spiritual successor? Game looks cool as hell.

This decent then? I've not played it since the OG on the Gamecube.

Wow really? it's the only LM I've ever played and I loved the hell out of it. Alot of the animation almost looks like stop motion. It's fucking gorgeous. Check the Eurogamer link I just posted above. It's a visual feast. The vaccuum effects alone with nearly everything in the environment being able to be sucked up or destroyed. Almost like a precursor to DKB :pie_thinking:

Cheers. I'll pick it up when I'm done with DK.

Pikmin 3&4
Bayonetta 2
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
Super Mario Odyssey
Zelda Links Awakening & Echoes
Kirby (switch2 upgrade)
Animal Crossing (wait for a new switch 2 game)
& No Pokemon games please
