My first experience with the prime series was Hunters on the DS.

Absolutley loved it and played the hd remaster of the og on switch. So yeah, I would say I'm pretty hyper for 4

Prime 1 is a top ten all time game for me.

Something feels extremely off about this. I'm buying, but I've never been less hyped for a Metroid game.

The recent trailer notwithstanding, I'm pumped for more Prime. I still think it'll be a great game with excellent mechanics. The bike sections look like saggy asscheeks, but I don't think they'll define the game… hopefully. I'm rooting for this series, man.

I think I'm kind of a weird case when it comes to Metroid. I once had a copy of Metroid prime trilogy for the Wii and tried it out. I was not a big fan as the motion controls often went crazy on me with Samus moving in circles or lilting from one side. It made me so motion sick I decided to give my copy away to a friend. I also got lost easily and didn't like how everything seemed dark which made it difficult for me to see. Since then I have tried some 2d Metroid games like Fusion, Dread, and Zero Mission. I could get behind those games but I'm not sure if I could get back into the Prime series to be honest.

I actually really struggled with Prime 3's controls as well and shelved it after a couple of hours. I gave it another shot about a month later and it eventually clicked, and I really liked the game… but for me, the traditional controls have always been 10000% more enjoyable. None of the motion sickness, none of the fiddly feel to it - locking on to enemies and just having combat *work* is so satisfying.

Actually… have they confirmed the control scheme here?

Yes. I consider myself a pretty solid Metroid fan. I like Fusion more than Super. Something about the more streamlined structure but still a Metroidvania and the amazing boss fights (and IMO, better controls) put Fusion over Super for me. Fusion is probably my favorite game in the series. I love Metroid Prime 1. I think Prime 3 is pretty good. It had some nice utilization of Wiimote controls but I don't like it as much as Prime 1. I never got around to Prime 2. I was waiting for a remaster and now I'm probably just waiting for it to release on the Switch GCN library.

Metroid and the Prime games will never have the mainstream appeal a lot of other winter/holiday Nintendo titles have. I'm happy that Prime 4 looks like just another Prime game (except for this new open world element with the bike, I can live with that) but the Prime formula and games are not for everyone. Even if it's a high quality product. It just doesn't have great mainstream appeal.

Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze are two of my fav games of all time. Staff may come and go, but the brand of Retro Studios, the games under that name have been incredible.

It's a big part of the reason that I want a Switch 2. I never touched a Metroid game before Super Metroid back in 2020 and I found it absolutely fantastic.

I tried playing Prime on my Gamecube afterwards but couldn't get over the control scheme. A more modern 3D version should hopefully solve my issues with that.

It will once Ninty releases MP2 and MP3 Remastered. Until then, no.

Would love to play the games before MP4.

I'm not giving Nintendo any more of my money for outside reasons, but I just have to say that Prime 4 has had probably the worst trailers out of any Nintendo first party game I can remember.

Easily my most anticipated game of this year. Getting it on Switch 2 physical edition and if they have any special edition, I'm there as well. Love the Metroid series.

I thought it looked like a boring retread until the latest trailer, now I'm interested.

Forget the bike hate... the huge areas shown and the weird technological look of the large planet structures (everything except the desert) feels completely new and alien again, in a good way.

Personally, it's not even a question.
Apart from dubious spin-offs, even a mid Metroid is still a better game than 80% of what's out there.
And who knows, it might actually be great.

I usually break down and buy every Metroid game no matter how unappealing I find them, aside from fed force anyway, but with each Prime game being worse than the last and my intense dislike for Dread I think im just kind of done with Metroid. Prime 4 looking more like Prime 3 than anything else with a bunch of botw powers tacked on certainly isn't doing it any favors.

It did, but that latest direct has me worried. The cycle shots and empty landscape looked terrible, even if it was a Switch 1 version being shown. Very inconsistent for sure, the development hell also has me worried. I wonder if they've given the game a bit the Zelda treatment too.

I feel the same way. Metroid really is not suited for an open world. I might (re)play the Metroid Prime Remastered instead.

I've played some Metroid games before, which I enjoyed, but not Prime, and never will; you can't make me play an FPS on a controller, sorry.

Prime Remastered was too obtuse for me, I don't have time to forensically explore the map whenever I get an upgrade. Needed a guide.

Dread was 10/10 though.

I've only tried MP1 and MP3 from the Prime series, but never finished any of them.. I might get back to MP1 sometime in the future.
I also finished Metroid Dread and it was.. fine I guess, didn't like the stealth sections, I felt that I liked the Castlevania series a lot more, also enjoyed Hollow Knight more than Dread.

I guess I'm interested in MP4, but will wait for reviews first.

Yes, but really only because MP1 and 2 are masterpieces (3 is good but not quite as awesome). Based only on what they've shown of 4, not really.

I tried Prime 1 about 10 years ago and thought the GameCube controls were absolutely atrocious, outdated and unintuitive. Dropped it after a few hours. Then I found the Wii Trilogy version for dirt cheap (€10!) and tried it again, and while the controls were much more intuitively, it also made me nauseous because of motion sickness. Dropped it again after an hour or two.

It took me until Prime 1 Remastered to actually appreciate it. Most of the time I enjoyed it tremendously, but in my opinion it was kinda held back by the late-game artifact hunt which fucked the pacing, and the last sequence until the final boss. It's such a shame Prime 2 and 3 aren't available on Switch, because I'd have loved to play through them before getting 4.

And to finally answer your question: yes, Prime 4 does interest me and I plan on getting it day one (on Switch 1). Even though I still prefer the 2D Metroid series, with Super and Dread as my favorite.

I would've said no if I didn't tried Metroid Prime Remakester and understood right away why the game got such amount of love. Day one for Prime 4

Never played Metroid prime any other entry as a kid. Played Super Metroid, and Fusion on NSO few years ago then when the Prime remaster released I got that too and I gotta say I'm pretty excited.

It's my most anticipated game for NS2 currently.

I'm excited for the following reasons:
- I love Metroid and metroidvanias
- It's a new Retro Studios game after so many years!
- They continue the storyline of Prime trilogy, and 3's secret ending even after so many years
- It will be Nintendo's most visually advanced, semi-mature looking game when it launches

Reasons not to be excited:
- It is a Switch 1 game at heart, launching a bit too late. 4k 120 Hz on NS2 is nice but the graphics will show its leading platform.

Kinda interested. What has been shown so far was okay, but this motorcycle scene in the empty desert looked a little strange.

If it had multiplayer, I would be much more interested.

That's really refreshing to hear. It's always nice to see someone give Metroid a chance and fall in love with the franchise.

And Prime is so unique too, there's really not any other game out there quite like it

My main games on Switch 2 will be Nintendos single player games, Metroid games such as this one will be among those.

Game looks great, it's a nice Christmas gift to myself, and the hub now has a bike

Day one, baby

To kill my interest completely next Direct Nintendo should announce that Samus can use her beam to dig materials to craft new weapons with zero durability

More than any overhyped pos like border lands or call of duty. I really have zero interest in most " AAA " games these days. They are all horrible.
