Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment is coming to PS4 on July 28th

So you are saying they had to go deeper?

Exactly :)

I did not want to get the game at first but that damn deal where you get it free + Lost song ....

Anyone know how long is the deal ? I'd like to get some impression first on the quality of the new translation .

I had been wondering why they weren't marketing the game when it was coming out so soon. Makes sense if it was delayed though..

Ah well, it's just a week at least.

It's really cool that this is getting a new translation. I really like the Vita game but once this was announced, I decided to hold off for it. Love SAO.

I can't speak for everyone but at least for myself and several people in the threads I've been in it would have been a solid 7/10 had the translation been readable.

I'd put it slightly higher than this. The Vita gameplay was suprisingly good and t's a fun game to play. If you play just through the story levels, it a pretty easy game, however, if you go into the Hollow area, there is a good amount of challaning areas to keep you invested for a long period of time...

20 bucks.
Sweet, thanks.

People should look at gameplay to see if they will enjoy it.

So what did neogaf think of the wildly varing reviews?

I thought that while the plot/story was weak at points, the game was a lot of fun thanks to its Xenoblade-inspired combat mechanics, large locations to explore, visuals and music that was enjoyable and the game overall being a fun time :).

It has flaws (shoddy translation and weak story elements) but those are hopefully being addressed with the PS4 port :).

Why can't I find this at the US PSN store? It's digital only and releasing this Tuesday, correct?
Grace Chen probably won't allow a trace of it to exist until the moment it releases. She hates long titles. At least that's what I tell myself as I go to sleep, hopefully we get some news tomorrow amd it releases for download at 12 am Tuesday.

9/10 for the Hollow Fragment side of the game.
7/10 for Infinity Moment.

So 8/10 final.

That's the best description of the game imo.
I unconscously made the bad choice to beat Hollow Area before the Infinity Moment Arc, and it's a pain to move onto plain and simple dungeons and never ending cutscenes to reach the end of the game.So an advice for whoever starts the game for the first time: leave Hollow Area as the last quest, so that you'll progress following the difficulty curve of the game

I don't get why this is delayed a week in Europe and Australasia because they need to "ensure it's as best as it can be"

Any harm in me making a USA PSN account and getting it that way?

I dont wanna wait.

How is the online co-op here, or is that a new PS4 feature?

The music sounds amazing from the trailer.

New feature, original release had only ad-hoc-style MP.

If it's like the original where you could use AI-controller characters for MP things then MP is a lot of fun. I imagine more fun with real people.

You can either go around the hidden area (or whatever it's called) or any of the Hollow areas in MP. Don't believe the IM side of things can be played with MP (aka the floor clearing stuff) since it was never designed with that in mind.

Unless the new release changes that anyway.

That's the best description of the game imo.

I can NOT recommend this, at least not fully.

By all means progress as far as you want in floor clearing but before you complete it, COMPLETE THE HF STORY.

iirc by doing this, you can unlock a hidden character (
Yuuki from the Mother's Rosario arc of SAO
) who you can fight at the end of the game and who will be playable for your next playthrough.

DON'T DO THE LAST FLOOR then! You will out on content because finishing Hollow Fragment first changes a few things in the main story.

It's extremely hard to follow because of the silly not-cannon splitting in all the SAO content. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong:
The PS4 version has Infinity Moment, which is a remaster of the PSP game that follow the original SAO arc with with added harem members from later because reasons. Hollow Fragment is an alternate ending to SAO meant to retcon the preposterous Laughing Coffin angle added ex post facto in GGO. Lost Song is in ALO and meant to take place after SAO2.

As someone who suffers through SAO2 with ToonamiGAF every Saturday for reasons I don't think any of us there can properly explain--We spend more time posting gifs of throwing tables over in anger as tears stream down our faces in agony of suffering through the dialogue--I massively hate the retconning really dislike supporting the show if that's the quality of the anime... But I would like to support a JRPG series that by all accounts is perfectly enjoyable in gameplay so long as you don't have massively high standards for it. Don't really care about the graphical prowess; I mean, enjoyed the hell out of FF Type-0 and that was a cheesy PSP up-port too.

I'm learning toward a buy.

Infinity moment is the alternate ending. Hollow Fragment is IM with extra content completely unrelated to anything in the anime.

The original HF OT ^ which may answer questions about the game (since RE: HF doesn't add much, most of the info will still be relevant)

To sum up: You're understanding is quite wrong. SAO: Hollow Fragment was basically a remaster of SAO: Infinity Moment (which is an alternative take on SAO, a "What if they had to do all 100 floors of Aincrad) but with better graphics and much better gameplay. The Hollow Area (aka Hollow Fragment stuff) was basically additions to the game with a storyline that takes place in the areas as opposed to being a completely separate game. Once you finish Hollow Area storyline, you even get bonuses that affect you outside the Hollow Area in the floor clearing stuff.

Lost Song is an original storyline (which includes some of the original characters from Hollow Fragment) set in ALO.

Tempted to buy the US digital bundle but that would probably prevent me from importing my R3 Vita save file. Decisions, decisions....

Original game is Infinity Moment on the PSP. This creates a split timeline after Episode 12 in the Anime where *ANIME SPOILERS*
Defeating Akihiko does not end the game and they have to finish all 100 floors

Hollow Fragment was released on the Vita this is basically Infinity Moment + DLC remade for the Vita with a new story arc about a place called the Hollow Area.

Sword Art Online RE:Hollow Fragment is the game coming out on PS4 with some graphics upgrades and a re-translation.

Lost Song is a continuation of the split time line created in Infinity Moment/Hollow Fragment (I like to call it a "what if?" scenario) into the Alfheim Online Arc.

When does the lost song preorder offer go live? Is it real? I want to buy on PSN.
Tomorrow.
