Publisher Microids and developers Virtuallyz Gaming and Microids Studio Paris have announced Syberia Remastered, a remake of Benoit Sokal's point-and-click adventure gameclassic for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. It will launch in Q4 2025.

Is Benoit Sokal now working full-time for Microids? It seems that in the last years, the Siberia IP got rejuvenated.

Ah, Syberia - the name that keeps cropping up like a bad penny whenever I pore over game sales.

What black magic allowed it to get a sequel, let alone more than one?

I only played the last game, but that one was great. Might be in for a remake.
I am somewhat surprised Microids are still kicking, numbers of their games always seem so low.

Everything after it was terrible.

Worlds Before is a beautiful game.

It actually came out? I forgot... never played it

Syberia 1&2 are some of my favorite point and click adventure games. The 3rd one was a frustrating disappointment.
I hope they do more than they did with the recent Amerzone remake.

Syberia 1 and 2 are amazing games. I replayed them multiple times... yes. after that it's trash
Syberia 2's puzzles were frustrating, some very very poorly designed. Syberia 1 was an another level IMHO. Never played the other entries…

The 2nd one is a direct sequel so much that I consider them both the same game. There are some added mechanics in the 2nd one that they probly should not have done.
I remember reading decades ago that both games were going to be sold as 1 but realized they had enough content to break it up into 2 games. Maybe this remake will combine both games together into one.

I played the second one on PS2, it was even worse optimised than the first game / ran worse for some reason and I remember completely unintuitive puzzles (like waking up the downed pilot dangling from a tree). 😡

These games are more about the vibe and atmosphere for me.
I would've never finished either of them as a kid without hints.

Syberia 1 is probably one of the first point and clicks I ever finished without hints. It has a special place in my heart just for that. I would probably never list it in my ever-shifting list of top adventure games but it will always deserve a special mention.

What's the consensus on the PS5 one?

I've tried the demo and seemed quite nice to be honest, but i never played any entry of the series.

Every time I hear about this game I think it's about Cyberia. Never played either of them, I just remember thinking Cyberia looked very impressive back in the 90s.

I am still sour because they never patched the European version of the second game. It's impossible to get the speedrun trophy. So fck Microids.

You might want to play the recent Amerzone remake first. It's set in the same universe and before the first Syberia game, though story-wise they have no connection.

The game is quite decent with the biggest problem being performance. You can power through it these days with a decent PC or a pro, but on base PS5 be prepared for an unlocked framerate that's in the 20s and 30s.

i play both 1 and 2 from time we still using win XP, the atmosphere quite unique, artstyle capture very well a calmful and isolate of the world, i just hope whatever 3D they make won't ruin it

Imo it's the second best in the series after Syberia 1.
It's s great adventure game, unfortunately the series is now niche (both because of the genre and because they took too much time to release the third game which was really disappointing) so it was overlooked but it's fantastic.

I'm also happy about this remake/remaster, it seems they have redone everything in full 3D and the environments look pretty much like the old pre-rendered backgrounds.

Is it understandable without having played the previous one?
If not, would this new remake of the first chapter, be enough to understand The World Before?

Yes it's understandable because the story introduces a new character and her story is the focus.
But there are of course many references to old games and recurring characters.
Ideally Syberia 1 should be played before. The second is optional and the third...well I think even developers want to pretend it never existed "pie_tears_joy:

Loved Siberia! These kinds of games are perfect for handheld. Hopefully they announce a Switch2 version

yes it is

infact i play syberia 2 on accident when it was released, then trace back and play syberia 1 after it

I have a huge soft spot for Siberia 1 and 2. Loved them when they released and love them now. Anything after 2 is absolute shit though. 1 and 2 had this surreal feeling about them, while the rest don't

It seems they have done a good job at recreating in environments in full 3D.
Those pre-rendered backgrounds were considered jaw dropping when the game was released and of course this isn't a mega production.

This game is on sale on anything 😂😂
Never even paid attention to it cause the cover looks like some random generated AI shit 😂😂

Oh fuck. I didn't know that.
Yeah, the most recent one was dedicated to his memory since he passed away during development in 2021.

I believe it's on PS+ right now if you want to give it a go.

Man, him passing made me sad. I always respected him for sticking to what he wanted to do. Easily up there with Michel Ancel and Frederick Raynal as my "Top French video game auteurs", even though Sokal was Belgian.
