Great pickup. Really does look like they've stripped out the reflections from that scene - which means it, along with every other scene that uses it (like UNATCO lobby), will actually look even worse than the original game. I shudder to think they'll stuff SSR in it's place...
For their TR remastered, Aspyr actually used the original source code and updated the engine for modern machines. They brought in fans from the Open Lara project to assist, and let them assemble a crack team of preservationists, to ensure they represented the games as faithful as possible. That showed that Aspyr was at least trying to produce good remasters, even if they fall well short of Night Dive's heroic outputs.
Here for Deus Ex, it's clearly fucked from the first frame of the remaster in the trailer, so I'm guessing there's issues somewhere in the pipeline that's limiting what they can do. The original Deus Ex used a slightly modified UE1 - I wonder if they ran into license bullshit that maybe limited them here? Or maybe I'm just trying to rationalise someone butchering my favourite game.
Just install mods. They just released GMDX augmented edition a couple of months agoI missed the boat on this. I tried to play the OG on pc but felt clunky. Will give it a shot if it's remastered.
Well, considering the official website from the trailer is currently available to purchase because it doesn't exist, I imagine Aspyr isn't running a tight ship on this project. The odds of Embracer giving them Deus Ex to remaster as a PS5 exclusive is 0%, so it'll at least come to PC. But like their Tomb Raider remasters, I fully expect this to be multiplatform across the board. Can't see it on Steam![]()
lmao, perfect response. I got nothin'.Bravery is not a function of firepower
Actually embarrassing how bad this looks. And after they did a great job on the Tomb Raider trilogies.

I am pretty sure that floor in that big red room with the hand has realtime planar reflections in the original. in their remaster it looks like they removed the reflections and just have some specular sheen
don't tell me they did that across the board... because the planar reflections were one of the key visual showpieces of the original. it was even used as a game mechanic in select moments (let you look around corners)
given how most modern games seems to be allergic to planar reflections, I am worried.
I coincidentally had a save state close to that room on my PC, so I loaded it up (killed every enemy in that damn place with my rocket launcher) and made a short video to show the planar reflections I mean:

I mean... that is clearly partially a technical downgrade. this looks just wrong.

"This is Deus Ex Remastered – the definitive version of Ion Storm's legendary cyberpunk immersive sim, modernized with visual upgrades, modern enhancements, and quality-of-life improvements for a new generation of operatives."
Holy. Fuck.

I think one is the one that highlights the issues the best.

If they've gone with using the DX version as their base, then their handling of transparencies will be slightly borked, too. It's why I stuck with the Open GL renderer for so long. Water, grates, smoke, fog, gas grenades, etc.... so my theory is that these idiots used the freaking Direct X community update as a reference here! instead of using the Glide renderer, which is the most accurate one when it comes to how the devs intended it to look like.
I think the GOG version I have just automatically uses the Glide emulation as the "hardware" render option, hence why it looks so accurate and why it looks the same as when I select Glide in the modded version. openGL seems very accurate too, but not fully. the texture here is not transparent enough when using the OpenGL renderer, and looks off. so Glide is the way to go for accuracy for sure (and again, I suspect the GOG version uses Glide emulation by default)...

Reading across the internet, they're getting raked over the coals by literally everyone for this crap. Fingers cross they delay it to actually, you know, do their jobs.
Because that would require a decent budget, and a team good enough to re-create everything up to modern standards. This is obviously a small-scale project and can't do that. And, that's totally fine - Night Dive has a made a name for themselves by making simple, high quality remasters for years, and I buy basically anything they make because it's always - always - high quality. WHat you're look at is the result of taking the lowest bidder.I don't understand why the remaster looks like this - why didn't they do what oblivion did with ue5?
I don't understand why it wasn't Night Dive then. Aspyr fucked up the Never Winter Nights 2 remaster so bad that it was outright rejected. Just straight up "no thank you". Fans still play the original and direct everyone to play that version instead. The original runs better, looks better, sounds better, plays better, has less bugs, and is cheaper.
"They killed all the charm with this remaster" "the og looks way better" ll be ever on my bingo card. All the charm of the original game has been killed with this remaster
The running theory I've seen: Embracer owns Aspyr and used them to make money quickly.I don't understand why it wasn't Night Dive then. Deus Ex is one of the greatest games ever made
