"This is Deus Ex Remastered – the definitive version of Ion Storm's legendary cyberpunk immersive sim, modernized with visual upgrades, modern enhancements, and quality-of-life improvements for a new generation of operatives."
Holy. Fuck.
I take my earlier post back. I've never played this game but that looks like hot garbage.

Nightdive and their system shock 2 remaster vs this really shows how much more consideration they have for preserving and updating the art without making it look out of place.

Well said. Nightdive have mastered the art of making it look like how you remembered it. It's definitely a skill, and one Aspyr simply do not possess.

These are two different things, so one thing doesn't need to exclude another

PS2 versions are basically just an additional thing Sony is doing for PS Premium service, and a fact they're available to buy outside of the service is just a side effect of them giving that option. Heck, even Deus Ex is a good example proving it as a few months ago Sony released Deus Ex: The Conspiracy from PS2 as a part of Classics catalogue while Aspyr just announced a Remastered version. Both are separate things

I'm pretty sure Legend-Underworld remastered is also in development and I wouldn't be surprised if this will be announced before this year's end. But imho you can clearly see Aspyr is rushing all of those projects they're pumping out and that's really not a good sign

Looks pretty good. Not full remake to mess it up (also I can imagine new players hating it because of that, haha, I doubt its gameplay will go down well for some), decent enough fitting and still not-super-modern-level models and textures etc. to go with the environment complexity/fidelity/size and scope. Here's hoping nothing we haven't seen screws it up, I think it can be the definitive way to play it from now on. Kinda sucks for that one guy painstakingly modding it into UE5 (with VR too) but he wasn't gonna redo the visuals himself either, though others could mod that (even) later on.

I don't get the hate, I think if Nightdive showed this folks would worship them like they did for packaging some System Shock 2 mods. It's the same game, with some more modern engine features and new textures/models in the same way as that, taken a little further here bringing it more in line to good looking games that released a bit after the original (when it already looked quite ugly for its time, Half-Life style). They aren't calling it a remake as it clearly isn't, more modern assets would totally clash with the low end scope, if it was Nightdive folks wouldn't expect more to begin with.

No seriously, what is even the point? Does the remake look better to anyone?
No. Literally no one. Here, Reddit, YouTube, X - can't find a soul who's like "this looks great!".
It's clear Aspyr couldn't give less of a shit about the game - there's no way they're oblivious to how bad it actually looks.

Yeah this looked like dogshit lol. I mean I get it, people on consoles never had a chance but on PC, you got mods, 4k textures and it still keeps the OG look. These new models are completely revamped and look so out of place.

It should've been given to Nightdive

This might harm its legacy :(
Why do people think Nightdive just take every single project? Maybe they didnt care to do it so they passed it on to someone else. I mean they obviously thought the least wanted remaster of Hexen was more important lol.

It is probably a good thing it exists. More of a chance of getting a new Deus Ex game if this sells decent. Testing the waters.

Of course, it could easily be a cash-grab as a remaster does cost less than funding a new game.

Sales will tell.

All I wanted was the PC version with decent controller support. I'm probably going to be very satisfied with this. The new coat of paint looks a bit shit, but they'll probably offer a toggle for OG graphics like they did with Tomb Raider.

Watch this have performance issues on PS5 Pro lol
I watched it have performance issues on my Voodoo 2 / Pentium 3.

It would be fitting for my nostalgia if the same happens again.

It doesn't seem like they've put any actual effort into it. So if this sad attempt of a remaster inevitably bombs financially, Embracer will go "see? Deus Ex just isn't popular". No fucking wonder when they're pushing this kind of crap. At this rate we'll never get a sequel to Mankind Divided.

If they actually wanted to test the waters, something like a DXHR remaster would make much more sense. Its gameplay still holds up well, tweak some things here and there, and bump up the resolution and frame-rate. In my opinion they're taking a lot more risks with a DX1 remaster if their actual goal was testing the waters.

Ffs I'd been hoping since the era of remakes that we'd see a remake of the older deus ex games, but now there's a lazy texture update, of a several decade old game that ofcourse looks wank…so the chance of a proper remake is next to zero

I encourage everyone to ignore whatever the fuck this shit is and just buy (it's fucking cheap) and play the original with the Revision or GMDX mod.

Wow, this looks like shit.
Especially the new shinny character models.
The OG deserves better than this!
I hope that they keep the old version instead of replacing it with this 💩.

Man I think you are all exaggerating with how the game looks. The gaming community is so hyperbolic man
You can get the original often for less than a buck on Steam and then slap a few free mod packs on it. That's essentially what this "remaster" looks like. Charging 30 bucks for what boils down to just porting to modern consoles is outrageous. It's not unreasonable to except more work done for a beloved game in a beloved series that was considered dead, and probably will remain dead if and when Embracer inevitably concludes this remaster sold like hot shit.

Granted, a lot of things can change in 4 months but the first impression is far from good.

I can live with this level of an "upgrade", but, at the same time it only makes me appreciate more what Konami did with MGS Delta.

To be honest though, for old 3D games, nowadays I kinda just wish they got a proper remake.

Unfortunately most of the appeal for this port (at least for me) is being able to play it on consoles. The recent PS2 version on PS5 scratched that Deus Ex itch for me, but if I'm able to play a version based on the PC original, I'd rather want that. But based on what they've shown so far and especially at that price point, I'm luckily not *that* thirsty.

Oh, yeah. I wasn't aware of the console situation with this game. That kinda sucks.

It definitely needs more polishing and quite a few more passes and improvements on lighting.

Maybe they'll consider the new feedback (especially for stuff they completely missed, like reflective surfaces, as well as the overly shiny models) and deliver something way better.

Otherwise, it'll be something on par or even subpar to what the modding community already has brought to the game.

A bomb's a bad choice for close-range combat.

This dude's just so quotable.

I guess it's just me, but I kind of like the kinda janky look of this remaster. It's got a charm. Looks like they went whole-hog and added some new weapon animations, too. I like to see that sort of thing.

I was very excited first but after reading this thread…

Yeah, I just want the original pc version on ps5 without changing anything except for the controls of course. I guess this will never happen now.

What the fuck are we doing ? Downgrading graphics from a 2000 game ?
Maybe they're doing this on purpose to make classic games look worse than they were. Specially when this will be the only console port of the first game besides that ps2 version. Yeah, this game will be screwed for a lot of new players.
