I haven't gone to taco bell since they got rid of the pizza and double decker so i guess they are half way there for me. They have gotten very expensive though, and i just tend to make my own quesadillas these days.

I used to love Mexican Pizzas until I had one that, no joke, tasted like vomit. I think one of the workers puked on it and served it to me. It was one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever eaten and I didn’t eat Taco Bell for years afterward.

I haven't eaten Taco Bell in quite some time, but I hear they keep messing with the menu.
Last I checked all the stuff I remembered from long ago was gone and most of the replacements were not that interesting.
Any fans out there that can let us know what this is all about?

They got rid of literally half their menu at some point during Covid, citing a new "Green/Climate Change" initiative to reduce their cardboard and plastics use. They got rid of a couple other long time staples like the Meximelt shortly before that. Their prices are double+ what they were a few years ago while the quality's even worse, but that's most restaurants, not just Tacobell. Their standard struggle taco with a teaspoon of regurgitated mass processed "meat" and thimble artificial cheese is like $2.00 now. Add-ons like extra sauces, tomatoes, sour cream, guac, etc... are like 80 cents each. Shit tier fast food that'll cost you $15-$20 for a full meal for one, unless you load up exclusively on the handful of shit on their value menu.

Taco Bell is trash, ...but it's good trash that you sometimes crave late at night and weirdly hits the spot.

Really?
Nearly any taco truck you can find will be better than Taco Bell... and just as cheap.

I don't think Mexican Pizza is traditional anyway.

You could say that about a steakhouse too. They do steak in different shapes and different potato combinations.
So every cut of steak and how it’s cooked, dry-aged is the same? Only on NeoGAF, you’d find someone comparing Taco Bell to a steakhouse.

I used to work at Taco Bell. It condenses down to how many permutations of 10 ingredients can we produce food slops for Americans to eat.

How people can eat all this genetically modified, processed to death, preservative-laden fast food crap - you can't even call it food anymore - is beyond me.

Fast food lovers don't have any self-respect and dignity. I don't see much difference between them and cattle on a farm, because the big fast food companies tread them exactly like that. If these fucking companies had dignity and respect themselves, they wouldn't even exist, because they know they are selling literal poison to their customers.

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
Haven't been to taco bell in months, the prices are beyond insane.
Yeah I hadn't been in years and I stopped in a couple of weeks ago. I got one of their combos it was almost $12 tasted as bland and flavorless as I remember and I was still hungry! Never again. I could have eaten really good at a taqueria for a few dollars more.

Crunch wrap is way better.
Definitely, that was my go to until the price hike. crunchwrap is $5.29 on the app, they're smoking crack. They also did some slick shit with the chalupas, they raised the price on them and made them chicken by default, switching to beef isn't cheaper either.

The only thing Taco Bell ever needs to bring back forever is the chilito (chili cheese burrito). There was a Taco Bell in Virginia, just off I-95 that was still selling it, and I remember stopping there intentionally each time I made a road trip between NY and FL. That burrito was worth adding time to an excruciating drive. Even wilder to do it with no major bathroom breaks. LOL!

Almost every Taco Bell within 100 miles of me still sells these, but it’s not on the menu. Here’s a map to see where you can get one:

You are really lucky. In Miami, which is reasonably close in social and geographics to Mexico, you can't find a TB that carries the chilito in a secret menu. I tried for the better part of a decade. Your map says none in the state of Florida. It also suggests that I remember wrong, and the last stop for one is in North Carolina. Whatever the case, I remember stopping every trip in that region for a chilito.

I legit appreciate the other posts in this thread for the FUCKING LEGENDARY CHILI CHEESE BURRITO (CHILITO).

Look at that shit. In pictures, you're probably thinking, "ugh" or "eww". In person, it looks the same, but the aroma and taste are great. It's not some next-level shit. What this is is functional gourmet. What I mean by that is that is tastes like chili con carne in a fucking wrap. I ate all of mine with the fire sauce, or whatever the hottest thing was they had. It tastes fucking legit. For a quick snack at 4am, this is a fucking amazing piece of work. I could down 2-3 of these easily, feel filled, but also feel like I had something tasty.

A soft taco is a stop-gap until the morning or another meal. The cheesy gordita crunch is a filling meal, but can also vary depending on how well the taco ingredients are portioned. The chilito is super-consistent deliciousness. It's chili with cheese. Tell them to put extra cheese each time, and you never have to worry about coming up short on that end. The chilito is the single greatest mexican-themed fast food meal since the Baja gordita (the one with the corn, also from TB, look it up).

Authentic mexican is nice, but TB has a specific niche it fills. Primarily, that late-night need for something tasty but not super-filling. Yo quiero Taco Bell!

I always get the Chili Cheese Burrito and eat it the way it comes with nothing added. Today, for lunch, I bought a couple and added some fire sauce to it on your suggestion…this puts it on a whole other level of amazingness!
