Tales of the Shire: First 16 Minutes

This isn't made for the primary GAF audience, so at most people here will simply make fun of it and move along.
Do you think the actual audience they're targeting will show up? I'm guessing it's women that play Sims. Hard to get a read on that since all I'm seeing is negativity everywhere it's been promoted.

It's *free* through Netflix games, which means this game will have a mobile version.
Its no wonder Netflix are increasing prices funding this atrocity, great to see idiots paying higher Netflix prices to fund it lol

Dear developers:
" Your love for the halflings leaf has clearly slowed your mind"
Love,
Saruman
"Woke developers, online media, movie makers, please keep that shit up
Your loving enemy Saruman"

Saruman proceeds to slay all the soyboys and easily invade every land.

Since this is coming to mobile? Higher than 50% chance. If it had avoided mobile I would have said 50/50 chance.

Netflix has already been putting high-profile indie games (that work well with phones) on their platform that are free of cost after subscribing. You're possibly going to see more of this because it seems to be working.

Admittedly, I myself am currently playing a few of these high-profile indie games thanks to Netflix Gaming, especially since one of them is an exclusive to the platform.

Ok, so that makes a lot more sense, if they are going to have a mobile version , no wonder this looks this way.

Why fuck is this thread acting as if this is some PS5 or Series X only title? Like, of course a fucking mobile game would look this way.

Or do they have other "reasons" on why they are suddenly concerned over a children's game? lol

Not for me, but I can totally see the appeal to a certain demographic. It just annoys me that we could have something similar to the PS2 Two Towers game, but they come out with ... this.

just remember, not only did someone think in their head to make this, someone else greenlit it saying it's a good idea :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Off on a tangent here but… I'm always surprised when, to even get hired as an artist or programmer at these places, the bar is set so high yet the output can be so low. Not an exact correlation since marketing and shareholders are involved separate from the technical aspects…

'Member the time when franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek and LOTR were great and treated with respect. Before people with no understanding or consideration got their hands on them and decided to milk them to death for cash or use them to further their own ideologies?

I 'member.

As an old Harvest Moon now Rune Factory player, I really wanted this to be good.

It looks like a less complex Palia (which was a huge disappointment) but it just looks so... basic.

The lack of sound, I'm not talking about just voice acting i mean in general makes it come across as super cheap. Like there needs to be something more to acknowledge you are in a conversation, sometimes you get a grunt or a hmmmm, but more often than not you don't.

It feels like a mobile game :(

I guess they spent all their time, money and effort getting the rights to make the game instead of actually making the game.

I just woke up after a good night's sleep and just skipping around that video nearly put me back to sleep. *yawn*

The environment models are nicely done, interesting topology. But the textures are way too simple. Some have a bit of hand-painted work done on them but the brushwork is too simplified and blurry. Oozes a vibe of laziness and not caring about the craft.

Ni no Kuni, a game from 2011. Same artstyle and a lot less VRAM budget for texture sizes. Just look at the density of detail.

I am all for non-photorealistic rendering in games but most modern devs don't do it justice the way PS2, PS3 generation of JRPG developers did.

Ni no Kuni

Ni no Kuni

The art of Ni No Kuni oozes charm, the art of Tales of the Shire oozes like pus from an abscess.

Because the Lord of the Rings I.P. is at a really bad spot right now, so they are going to dislike/make fun of stuff that doesn't match what they feel the I.P. should be, regardless of if it succeeds or fails.

Secondly, I think some people are looking for some new punching bags now that Concord's failure has been milked to death and the horse's corpse has been beaten beyond death. Expect to have 15+ threads if the new Assassins Creed or Dragon Age show a hint of failure on release. And for some reason, for just pointing out the obvious, people will think you're against them or upset about a game failing and treat you as such.

Hmmm I dunno, I'm ambivalent. I REALLY like these types of games, but the art style ain't it. I'll wait to see some substantive reviews but .. ain't looking good.

You wake up, look at the mirror and see this.
You now have two options :
Telling yourself "i'll go to the gym and ask someone who knows their stuff/with taste what can i do with my hair and which glasses would suit me better"
or start a worldwide crusade to change everyone perception so they 180 their beauty standard to find you attractive.
Which one do you choose ?
