Style is my favorite song. The first half of the album is very good, kinda dips in the middle, and then finishes well.

I grew up listening to '80s one hit wonders, and Blank Space and Style fit the... style, I think. If I only liked two tracks from the album, it'd be those to. Worth looping for hours at a time.

Style epitomizes the 80s sound on this album for me. An insanely addictive song too.

The only songs I don't care for are Shake It Off (it's always going to be terrible) and Bad Blood which is a bit of a bore. Clean is easily my favorite and I don't see it being dethroned. Seriously hoping that more Imogen collabs happen on her next album. A shame only one made it on this one.

New Romantics deserves to be on the real (non-deluxe) album way more than Bad Blood or How You Get the Girl

Yeah, a lot of the album is sort of forgettable. Maybe it will grow on me in time...

I wish the rest of Style sounded like the first 40 seconds.

The quality will never match her her early albums, nature of the beast. I can name at least 3-5 memorable tracks in Taylor Swift, Speak Now, and Fearless. (Personal opinion of course) Red was okay, but also suffers from overproduction.

I broke down and listened and don't feel bad because I've got the damn thing preordered anyway.

Out of the Woods is the worst.
Shake It Off is the second worst.

I haven't listened to You R In Love or New Romance more than once yet.

She's on the fucking attack with this album and surpasses every other pop girl out there while barely trying. This is what an album an artist actually truly wants to make sounds like.

Style
All You Had to Do Was Stay
Wildest Dreams
I Know Places
the entire CD
YES.

Please, please be as good as the majority of Red...

It's...a different album. Red was a lot more varied. It was a better balance of her older sound, while also being really catchy and new. This album goes full out on the pop side of things. It lacks "depth" in terms of the musical arrangements. I can step back, and recognize that some of the tracks are repetitive. I can recognize that some of the instrumentation isn't as fleshed out and interesting as her past work.

But I love this album. I think the melodies are really catchy, and her voice is really amazing. I think, regardless what you think of Swift as a person, she really sells a lot of her emotions in her voice and what she puts into her music. And I think that's still here. I'm a sucker for simplistic catchy pop. So this album to me is godsend. It's really catchy pop, but also w/ all the things I like about Swift.

I can understand those that don't like this album (especially given she started out as a singer/song writer). I guess this was the right album for me, personally. It's exactly what I needed. Hopefully to those that don't like it, will like her next album (or future work). I personally love that I can listen to each of her records now, and they each offer something different. But I agree, Red was really something great.

EDIT: All You Had To Do Was Stay is a jam. Love it.

Also "I Know Places" is becoming my favorite song. I like the varied production on this track (and the chorus is catchy as hell). I love that bass line though.

Where the hell are you guys listening to this new album?

It leaked a couple days ago (first shit quality, then a day later the CD rip of the Deluxe). It's not out legally yet. I'm waiting for my iTunes version to unlock. It's actually out on the 27th (Tomorrow). Although I actually really like the bonus tracks.

Thought maybe it got posted somewhere official to stream, like Spotify. A lot of rock bands do that.

I'm thinking about getting it, but I'd rather not impulse buy it since I wasn't super sold on the three songs released.

I don't mind the song, but I was a little surprised to see it has 200m views already. Maybe that's par for the course?

While I love W2NY, those three songs are definitely the weakest on the album IMO. I'm glad she released them first so that people can be blown away by the rest. It's really something.

Not really sure how releasing your three worst songs is supposed to instill confidence in a product.

But I figure I like her last three albums enough where I'm okay with taking a chance on this one. Dont' really feel like torrenting it.

This album is almost all electronic/bass. There isn't a lot of variance between production. Most of the tracks are pop anthems. I think her vocals are great as always. The choruses/melodies are excellent. But I wouldnt go into this album expecting anything off it like Red (save for maybe 2 tracks which are stripped down and more down tempo, but that isn't the norm). The first three singles are actually on the lower end of things for me personally (with how i would rank the tracks). I think New York is a bit too Repetetive, whereas the other pop anthems have more variance in the chorus and pre chorus and just more movements. But I would still expect the same electronic/pop production you've already heard. That is pretty consistent throughout.

Hmm. the thing is, I don't mind it when she gets poppy. IT's not like she hasn't done that before. I also have almost no pop pop music in my library, so maybe getting some wont' hurt?

Eh. Maybe I should find this and give it a listen first. Really hard to say. I kinda look at albums like an investment; if I buy one, I want to like it and listen to it a lot. And I know her music isn't always cheap, especially with the bonus content.

Red and Speak Now are great. Both had less country than Fearless, so I'm okay with her going pop. But eh. I'ts really hard to say. I don't hate the three songs I heard though, but I was kind of let down in how repetitive they were. She's so good at lyric writing, so why throw that away to just repeat the same phrase ten times in a row?

I almost want to say...listen to it first before buying. If you aren't used to full out Pop (especially electronic/bass production)....this might not be an album you will like. There is nothing wrong with not liking this record, or this kind of music. I'm a huge music fan, and even spent some time in the industry for 6 years. I also play guitar/piano professionally, so I tend to like production that is a bit more heady. I tend to gravitate towards music that has more complexity to the musical arrangements.

And...I wouldn't say this album has a lot of that. I really loved Red, because it was a balance between her singer/song writer style, and her pop ambitions. The production had more organic instrumentation, and felt a lot more varied track to track. Plus I think Swift has a very beautiful voice, and can really present some haunting emotions. So I've always liked how fragile she can sound. This album I would say goes more to the pop extreme side of things. You still have her emotion/voice, but the music underneath it is mostly bass/electronic.

But you never know, maybe you will like it. Kind of sucks that Spotify or no one else is streaming it?

Not to my knowledge, though I'll check around. Slipknot put their entire new album up on their site to stream, and I really wish more artists would do that. Godsmack had theirs up early on Pandora. New Medicine did the same.

But pop artists maybe don't need to bother with that. Pop does mean popular afterall.

I think there are many tracks on this album with nuance to the production and vocal mix, but I do also look forward to a more stripped Swift album, and it will come, she assures us:

I asked her if all this is permanent, if 10 years from now we should be shocked if she makes, say, a rooted, singer-songwriter album that sounds something like the Emmylou Harris works that she adores.

"I would not be shocked at all," she says. "It would shock me if I didn't. With '1989' I went in a different direction and went with a sonically cohesive pop album. Who knows where it will go next, but it won't be the same."

She's totally right that there's a cohesion to this album that really lifts it, and what excites me is how enthusiastic she is about the possibilities that lie before her as a songwriter, how excited she is talking about her career and artistic choices to come. She really wants to explore her boundaries.

This album is wonderful and I agree some tracks have nuance and some interesting production choices. But I still think some fans will be turned off by some production choices, compared to her past work. I love all of it though even the more formulaic stuff (like New York). The one thing that always holds true for Swift is her vulnerability and ability to really sell her emotions with her voice. And I think that is true for this record as well.

All You Had To Do Is Stay is the jam though! I'll have to think about it and come back with my rankings. I'm still not 100% on This Love, Wildest Dreams. Then again, I also wasn't fond of I Know Places at first and its quickly becoming a favorite with each repeat listen.

I agree with Bad Blood and Out of the Woods being ranked low.

It's not gonna be on any streaming services for awhile. Neither she nor her label are big on streaming.

Taylor makes most of her album sales on physical copies so it's understandable she wouldn't want to upset big box retailers she makes deals with like Target by putting it up early online.

It's nice to see people being cool about Taylor on here. It doesn't seem like that long ago I would avoid Taylor threads because people would just talk shit.
