IGN has an article with a few environment screenshots (no characters shown except for Splinter) and a bit of info about the game's mechanics:

a co-op beat em up in VR?!

WHY?!
Why not? For some people, the Quest is their only standalone console. And with mixed reality, there might be a day where you use these devices longer and on occasion might want to play a regular game like this natively from the headset. Makes sense to me.

But would they not get exponentially more sales releasing it like a normal game? Like Shredders Revenge and what not?

I have had an HTC Vive back in the day and played on a Quest. For me the novelty wears off quickly and I have no use ever for AR/VR in any capacity anymore.

I actually love VR and mixed reality. There have been a couple times where I wore my Quest and did something like hand washed dishes while watching a movie. And when you find a game that's great, it's awesome. I spent a lot of time unlocking things in "the Compound" or "Gorn". But there aren't a ton of unique VR experiences out there. Even when VR was new, interesting titles felt limited. Now it seems like there are even less VR games to excited about.

I had the HTV Vive, had the 3-4 base stations and the whole 9 and paid like $700 for it

Downloaded tons of games, to me Job Simulator still bout the best I have played. But it's not something I could ever seriously game on in long stretches. The goggles become uncomfortable, my face sweats, it just isnt for me. Maybe in a decade we will see what it looks like.

Wish they would show something of the actual gameplay so I could tell if this was anything at all to get excited about, but I guess teasers are gonna tease. Anyway, easy to be very dismissive of this kind of thing, but in the right developer's hands a TMNT VR game could be pretty exhilarating. Guess we will have to see what comes next - I want to believe!

Probably because younger VR players skew towards free-to-play & multiplayer games. (This is not likely going to be F2P, though)

Also coop is always fun, check out Dungeons of Eternity, it's a 4-player dungeon crawler with very solid combat mechanics:

Been waiting for them to make this game for eons, now that they do, it's VR. Such is gaming lol
Yeah finally a 4-player coop Turtles brawler

What are you talking about? We have been drowning in TMNT games recently: We got Shredder's Revenge in 2023, Wrath of the Mutants, Mutants Unleashed, Splintered Fate in 2024, and we're even getting a Tactics RPG this year.

I mean a co op game in 3D/HD and not just...another less good retro style game than Turtles in Time. I've been tapping my foot since PS3/360 for it. There should be a way for 4 guys to pick a turtle and team up against foot soldiers in a 3D city. Well, maybe there is now, in very 3D lol

Alright, I yield. There are admittedly many Turtles games, they are technically 3D/HD, and I even must concede that they take place in a city.

I guess I just have a very specific game in mind and they never made it! The title of this game and being in VR gave the impression that it's trying to be the game I had in mind (but in VR). Something with a little more scale to it, maybe even individual cameras.

We don't even know what this VR thing looks like based on this crappy teaser. It could be like Arkham Shadows, or it could be like... Moss

You are correct. Which is why I wanted to explain myself -the title of the game and the fact that it's in VR put those ideas in my head (before we even analyze the trailer, which says nothing).

Sales be damned. Why does every game have to be a "normal" game? It's a good thing VR is actually getting more and more games in known franchises. This will make the medium better in the long run as it keeps growing. By the way, World War Z VR was just announced today. One more win for VR gaming, and gaming in general.

Arkham Shadow set the bar too high as far as melee combat systems go in my opinion. Let's hope the devs of this game learned from it and deliver.

Still, if it wasn't a VR game it would be a game that would play completely different by a different developer (the studio doing this only makes VR games), so I don't see the point of getting flustered by this existing.
