Tekken 4 vs. Tekken Tag

Lee isn't the only one to have an infinite in T4. There's already at least two infinites in T5.

Jin's dominance is somewhat overhyped. If you do go to TZ and ask you'll see most of the really good players will point to a lot more than just Jin. Characters like Steve are also too good.

And a lot of people hated new features like the uneven ground, which make things too "random". That's why you always see everyone using the Arena stage.

I agree I actually loved fours engine the first time I played it at the arcade.
I'm upset that they took some of Tekken 4's elements out of 5. I liked being able to move before the fight.
 
Yeah, in T4 the ground isn't completely flat on some stages. There's slopes and little hills. Like on the Mall stage you can fight on the stairs. Moves have different properties depending on the elevation. If you try to hit the opponent on the ground a move that would normally hit them may not because you're elevated.

A lot of top players hate this feature. Sega learned the same lesson. VF3 had uneven ground but VF4 went back to flat.

The problem with uneven ground in fighting games is that you still fight like your oppenents on flat ground causing kicks and punches over there head missing them. Usually higher ground causes you a disadvantage. I remember Vf3 had the same problem years before. It was interesting in that game because it was something new.
 
I think the biggest problem I have with T4 is that the ducking jab is the best punch in the game and almost nothing can overcome it... on even ground that is
 
I liked having uneven Ground it added a bit of strategy....but no the so called "hardcore" gamers dont like change in sort of way. Really the people who complained about that are a bunch of pansies.

I thought it gave a good trade off on both. Being on top gave you better juggling possibilities, being on bottom gave you a higher percentage of landing a hit.

The uneven terrain is one thing I really wanted in VF4. I still go back to VF3 sometimes to play around with the uneven terrain.

It's serious, and no, I wasn't particularly aware of your history with VF4, though I may have read some of the threads you posted in.

I am now curious as to if you are pro-actively against VF, VF4 in particular, or if you just prefer Tekken? If you 'hate' VF4 then please state the reason/s why and how much time you spent with the game.

well for me... I hate blocking with a button... hahaha so I don't really like SC as well
 
Everyone I know who plays both games at high level prefers VF as the more technical fighter and more satisfying in the long run. Though admittedly things are a bit muddier at the moment with Tekken 5 only out a few weeks ago and VF5 due in arcades this year.

I don't play Tekken at all, but the word is that Tekken 5 is a magnitude better than Tekken 4 and hopefully this will spur AM2 to make the best VF5.

nothing wrong with that... the one thing I do enjoy about the tekken series in general is the button setup. right punch left punch rkick lkick... I really how the feeling of control with that layout...

I have the same thing the other way... from people who play both at high levels here in Japan.. so I guess it is just opinion..

I'm just not one of those "play 60 hours to unlock the fun" people. :p

Not to say I couldn't play it, but after 15 hours...I just found myself just not caring.

Well, the situation was a bit clearer before Tekken 5 was released, I mean as in Tekken 4/Tag versus VF4/Evo/FT. We're in a transitional phase at the moment, with Tekken 5 just out and VF5 on the horizon (hopefully, though I can't image why not after the mad success Sega have had with VF4~) and I'm not exactly sure how much effort I can muster for FT if I hear that we'll have VF5 in 6 months time, even if it's only in Japan. It's not that Tekkens' terribel or anything, it's just that it's always played second fiddle to VF in Japan; the only place where it really matters.

You should go back and give it another, longer shot. Trust me, it's worth it in the end.

I'm not going to go through all the figures, but I'm somewhat sure that VF has consistently outsold and outperformed Tekken in Japan. Especillay after the dud that Tekken 4 was widely regarded as.

On he home console? or the arcade profits? I only saw sales for home consoles from what I scanned through there...

Arcade earnings in Japan; where the most money is spent on arcade games and where the most dedicated players are. VF has consistently been the top-earning arcade game.

All the "hardcore" player i know prefer VF4.


I prefer Tekken just cause it is much easier to get into and flashy. I just sort hate the dial a combos tho.
