Tekken 7 - Offscreen videos

More of this instead of Soul Calibur? :/

I mean, from the looks of things it's a relatively low-budget sequel with lots of asset reuse, and that's fine, but I really hope the fact that we jumped from TTT2 -> Tekken 7 doesn't mean Soul Calibur has ceased to be a thing. :<

I doubt SC is dead, but I think Tekken has always come out ahead of SC in some sense, so don't be disappointed.

Tekken and Soul Calibur aren't made by the same teams, getting a new Tekken game has no affect on the continuation(or lack of) of the SC series.

Yep, looks like Tekken with more sparks.

I'd really have to see direct feed footage side-by-side with Tekken Tag 2 to see a difference, honestly. TT2 was pretty damn good looking. You have to wonder what exactly the extra hardware horsepower is being used for.

If we're lucky, we'll get to do that at the end of next year. :D

So, I guess same polygon count as the location test?

At least i hope for character sweat like NBA 2k and maybe minor bruises (not Mortal Kombat level :lol) as the battle progresses

Also getting your clothes dirty when you hit the ground or getting wet when you fall on water would be really cool

Wanted to post this on the other Tekken 7 thread(that has been closed -_-). So I'm going to post it here instead.

Have seen some gameplay(and the gifs ;P) and it looks really good(Harada did a good job with UE4 *notbad.jpg*). But I saw some lag in the game. Like there was some frame rate issue(the game looked slow than TT2 :/). I know it's still a alpha/beta version, so these problems are normal. But I hope it will be fixed on the final version. Also I'm not happy about the "Super" combo. I've realised that the "Super" combo moves(the moment when it's activated) looks the same as the "Super" combo moves on SFxT. Why Harada? :/ Tekken supposed to be different than SF. Why implementing things from SF? :X

Funny that Harada mentions skin shading. UE 4.5 (coming out soon) is set to include some support for subsurface scattering and they (Epic) are apparently pushing to get higher quality character rendering in asap.

Yeah, the game currently has framerate issues. It'll be fixed so I'm not concerned about that.

As far as supers, I think they just need to tone down the damage. I'm fine with them being there but I also won't be upset if they're taken out.

Generally I'd assume that they're actually integrating all the updates as they come out since otherwise that defeats a fair amount of the point of licensing the engine.

It's true that some people license an engine and just never use the updates, but that's kind of an old model people tend to avoid now.

I'm not noticing much of difference besides it looking brighter

Edit: also just noticed your avatar, now your response makes sense

I'm not sure I understand what exactly you're trying to say.
What does my Nina Williams avatar from a spin-off game from 2005 have to do with my opinion of the visual fidelity of Tekken 7?

@mod Can you un-close the location testing thread when the niconico streaming starts? Or maybe Wonkey can make a similar second thread.

One of the middleware providers I work with told me they once licensed their package to a Korean company working on a MMO. They took a single drop of the code and never took any kind of upgrade or contacted them again :)

Yeah, it certainly does happen. Since Namco listed working with Epic Japan though, I'm assuming they're actually trying to incorporate them.

I could definitely be wrong though.

I like the slow-mo for the killing blow, but I hope the sparks on normal hits get tuned down quite a bit.

I think this is what this game needs, I like all the visual flair. I think most people wont give a shit about it really soon. I love tekken but I have always wanted more visual flair with the moves.

I sure hope when the game is released on the home consoles that we can turn off the particle effects. They look like they cheapen the experience.

Has there been any impressions thrown around about changes in the fighting engine/mechanics at all? I haven't been into Tekken since 5, so it looks a lot like Tekken 6 to me on the surface mechanically from what I've seen so far.

The lighting looks really awesome though. I'm extremely interested in what the final product will look like.

Overall, I'm hoping I'll enjoy this entry.

Edit: Seeing this makes me sad that we won't see Virtua Fighter 6 though.

Hey, as long as they're adjustable, I'm all for it. More options are usually a good thing. I just find it a little distracting personally, but it's a pretty minor complaint.

One person in the previosu thread so he wasn't too fond of it due to frame rate issues, playing like Tekken Revolution and the Supers doing too much damage(which is silly when most raw supers tend to do shit loads of damage).

Thanks for the reply. :)

Wait, there are supers in Tekken? Do they require some sort of super bar, or are these just the character specific charge up moves that hit really hard and are unblockable?

Simple input done once your character is in rage. Has armor but you still take damage so you can get killed if your health is low enough.

I understand that this game is supposedly at 50% fidelity but the design, art direction and style looks super boring, they don't seem to have done anything different this time around. Its hardly surprising given the franchise but they should have tried to do something a little bit new to shake things up.

its hard to tell from off screen video and i understand this is a very early build but to me it looks like a slightly upgraded tekken 6...

now when i saw guilty gear xrd even early shots i was blown away and said now thats a next gen fighter

It would make sense for Epic Japan to work closely with Namco since it's one of the first Japanese UE4 games, and they probably want it to be a good showcase for other companies.
