She's ranked #211. Thats generally high enough to get into the quallies. Guess she missed the cut-off

The cut-off actually happened some time ago, I believe. Maybe right after Stuttgart ended? I remember reading that if Sharapova had won the tournament, she would've been ranked high enough to at least get into FO qualifying without needing a wild card.

Regardless, she'll now very likely be high enough to at least get into Wimbledon qualifying--should she not be given a wild card into the main draw.

As for the French Open's decision to not even let her into qualies, well, in the end it's their loss. Sure, Sharapova could've used the points (and the chance, however slight, to win another Slam), but she'll get them soon enough anyway. Without her and Serena there, though, viewership (and likely attendance, too) for the women's side of the tournament is sure to be a bit dire.

Besides of all that, tough day at the office for Sharapova today. She was in a great position against Lucic--totally cleaned up her service and ground game in the second set, plus started the third with a break, and then ... ? No one's sure when she injured herself, but she clearly couldn't move after she came back from the MTO :|

Oh, well, at least she now has a good four or so weeks to recover and get back into shape before the Wimbledon tune-ups start!

Let's not kid ourselves the French attendance is poor at best.

EDIT:

Wait your username d+pad, are you responsible for that digital gaming magazine a while back? If so I'd like to say fabulous design and content standards you had. If not, ignore this left field post.

Unfortunately, no, I wasn't responsible for that mag. I do run a little gaming blog, though :) Focuses on Japanese games, esp. old ones.

Anyway, back to Kerber and Murray and Djokovic and how they all currently suck... :(

Claywrinka is not in good form. Anyone who loses to Isner on clay is playing poorly

Ew. Why'd he have to do that?

Wawa's had kind of a bad year, though, hasn't he? I mean, what's he done since winning the US Open last fall? Guess he's just in the usual "post Slam slump" many players go through after winning a Slam...

watching modern day del potro can be pretty tragic. his backhand is still awful, or he just slices it all the time.

Yes. This is why he's going to have an awfully hard time consistently winning matches, IMO--and that's not even considering his tendency to quit matches/withdraw from tournaments a la another unfortunately fragile player, Nishikori.

I shot people I like more for less.
Nice win for Delpo.

Oh damn, Djokovic next.

Querrey has his sights set on playing Nadal again :p

John Dunbar

correct about everything
nadal is trying to prolong his match for as long as possible to see if he needs to start tanking to avoid beast slayer querrey.

John Dunbar

correct about everything
nadal getting routined by thiem in the first set. he's playing better at the end though, so second set will probably be closer (assuming of course thiem manages to serve the first set out now).

edit: and of course he didn't. still has one break though, so gets another shot.

John Dunbar

correct about everything
also goes to show that nadal has certainly not been unbeatable this clay season. fognini should have beaten him, and thiem is now doing it unless he finds a way to mess it up (which he probably will do). the competition is just particularly dreadful at the moment.

hopefully that continues when the king returns on grass.

Muguruza retired again in the first set in the semi against Svitolina...she does that a lot, take a break girl ;) ,and heal that thing for good, jesus,so annoying.

Should be a great final though, somehing we might see in RG even against Svitolina and Halep.
