Let's see who can type the fastest.

My results on my MacBook Pro.

Edit: After trying again, I finally achieve the white-hot font tier!

287 cpm (that is 57 words per minute)

Your score beats or equals 77.32% of all.

My typing hasn't improved since high school. I'm conditioned to tap backspace too much.

Hmm. Do you never go back and correct mistakes? Maybe that's better for timing.

I corrected a few mistakes and it seems doing so keeps them from being counted as mistakes. The three I left, I left because correcting them would have been a massive hit to my rhythm.

Turns out im quite shit... Your score: 235 CPM (that is 47 WPM)

Your score beats or equals 63.89% of all.

But then i'm not native in english either.

Here are my mistakes.

Instead of "fine", you typed "finwe".
Instead of "eat", you typed "eart".
Instead of "family", you typed "fgamily".
Instead of "great", you typed "greast".
Instead of "half", you typed "hald".
Instead of "game", you typed "games".
Instead of "gave", you typed "game".
Instead of "she", you typed "eshe".
Instead of "measure", you typed "mieaseure".
Instead of "during", you typed "durting".
Instead of "fast", you typed "fgast".
Instead of "listen", you typed "klisten".
Instead of "eight", you typed "eritht".
Instead of "test", you typed "rtet".
Instead of "sea", you typed "sa".

They were close enough to be correct imo.

460 cpm (92 wpm).

I remember when the extent of computer classes in school focused on how fast you typed. I kind of envy how early kids are being taught higher-level computing topics in grade school now.

Not too terrible given that it's 2 am. I always feel weird when doing typing tests in other languages, because I feel like I'm going to make a typo because a word is written differently than I think it is.
Still better than a Japanese test which I had to take a few years ago, that one felt really weird.

This one made me realize how much I depend on my left hand for typing (I'm left handed). I should definitely do something about it.

This is by far the most annoying typing test I've ever tried.

If you accidentally hit caps lock, 100% of your words are failures.
Words are highlighted in red, which messes with my brain.
I get mental freezes trying to make myself not go back and correct words.
If you get on the wrong word, it keeps going but can mark multiple words wrong which makes it even harder to follow.
Words aren't from sentences but are instead random garbage.
State are live updated just above, which makes it hard to focus especially since the timer is so tiny and you don't know when it's finishing.

Maybe I'm partly annoyed I score so low compared to similar typing tests with sentences from books, but this is definitely an unusual test.

I suck at typing I had 49 wpm. I'm a very sloppy typer and, yes, I type with exclusivey with my middle fingers.

I think it is better that it is random words. You can sort of cheat at being a fast typist by having a rhythm to sentences. It feels natural for some words to flow after another. Basically, muscle memory.

And if you make a mistake and want to bail on it, just hit space and it moves you to the next word.

318 (64 wpm), beats 83.26% of people. Anyway aren't typing tests supposed to be sentences rather than random words? I'm not sure this would ever really reflect real life typing rate.

Typing heavily involves muscle memory, however, so I don't see an issue for that. This very much focuses around the English language by using English words, yet it ignores actual English typing situations (and capitalization and punctuation for that matter) so it's weird. I didn't realize how much actual sentences made a difference from random words.

The word length also varies -- at one point I got "something" twice in rapid succession, which hurts your rate compared to you getting a bunch of 3-4 letter words in a row.

Despite all of the above I definitely feel I would do better if I couldn't see the red highlight. It's such an odd mental thing and I'm programmed to hit backspace. This is the best I can do for now, sadly.

Your WPM score is just derived from your CPM score. So I don't think word length hurts you.

Your score: 293 CPM (that is 59 WPM)
Your score beats or equals 78.58% of all.
Congratulations! You typed all 58 words correctly!

Looks finwe to me.

I've been on the rum for the past few hours so this is much less awful than i was expecting. Still, needed to lower the average for this thread.

After two warm up rounds I got 315 CPM (that is 63 WPM). Had one mistake. Instead of "minute", I apparently typed "minute4".

73 WPM the first time, 81 the second.

I'm slacking. I used to be able to pull 90+ easy back in high school. probably doesn't help that this is on my laptop sitting on my lap in bed.

576, 99.65%. On a Macbook Air.

I've noticed that I tend to slow down on words where I have to tap the same letter twice, like "week" or "moon" or something. No idea why.

An ergonomic keyboard and lifetime of programming helps a lot.

I think it has to do with keystroke stride. I maxed out at 105 WPM. I don't see how I could go any higher if I kept my keystroke stride. I feel like if I wanted to type faster, I'd have to pipeline my typing. Basically, I feel like if I am typing a 'q' and a 'u' will follow next, my left hand would need to start moving towards q, and my right hand needs to already be moving to u, only slightly behind. What I do now is type q and don't even begin to trying to type u until I am can feel that I've pressed q.

it's a shame. I will probably never get faster than this because of the weird way that I type.

this is where my hands default to before/during typing:

even though there are set quadrants you should follow based on key position/finger length my left hand will never move away from the WASD. I overextend my right hand to reach those those keys..
