Testing the Limits of Mass Effect Andromeda's Character Creator

Another example (still the same preset used that's funny).

Looks like Phil Spencer with a deep tan. It is actually one of the better ones as well.

I can't wait to see someone try to make Chawncy Ryder.

I always rolled default face when its present in the marketing materials, ME franchise, Dragon Age 2. This time around I'm not happy with either of the defaults. I'll be slamming random until I find something that sticks.

Wonder if you can make a decent black character.

Women get nothing but cornrow or straight hair. Or cut real short I guess.

The plus side being that they don't look like shit "ingame" anymore thanks to quality control and forcing models skeleton on the users.

You can still change them significantly to alter their looks as illustrated above.

female hair options

Can you create a decent South-Asian/Brown character (or has it been created already)?

The East-asian custom female character looks pretty decent.

Music is nice. Characters are terrible. Gonna have to roll FemRyder as she's the least terrible looking one.

Wish other main female presets were as good as this one (a side character you can wake)

As usual on PC, mods will really help.

Are you sure this is a side character? The cutscene looks like the one where your Ryder wakes up.

The Defults dont look so bad after seeing this character creator.

Its disapointing how limited the options seem to be. They more seem to be letting the player do slight tweaks on the scanned faces rather then sliders with big ranges that can change almost everything

This is better than the default Ryder IMO.
Now that looks good.

Does anyone know if the game has face codes? DA:I didn't have those and people could only share characters by taking screens of every slider. Goes without saying that this was super cumbersome.

What the fuck ?

In no way does the custom look worse.

If you pick terrible hair / eyes / skin color, it will blend terribly with the game's lightning. If you pick stuff that fits it, they look good.

Seeing this model gives me hope. And yes, it does look like Hayden Christensen with a darker skin tone.

I wish they had a beard opacity slider :/ ... As it stands, it's a no beard only option as they all are far too visible and look bad.

Why is everyone look so goddamn greasy in current gen Bioware games? It basically continued the trend from DAI, it makes the skin and faces look even more unnatural.

I don't know why but he reminds me of a bulkier grown up Shawn Hunter from Boy Meets World that could exist in another timeline.

Wait his character name was Rider Strong... Ryder... Rider... the pieces are falling into place...

I was mainly refering to the Defult Custom faces. Those are pretty bad. Obviously with enough care people can make custom faces that look pretty good.

How'd I do, GAF?

Anyone else getting Morgan from Chuck vibes on this Ryder?

Honestly, a chunk of the problem with the female presets (and some of the NPCs) seems to be that Bioware are terrible at make up.

Get that stuff of their face, change the hair and I reckon there are some good faces in there.

So to confirm what we assumed, if you pick the right colors, the output can be fairly decent. Their shaders do NOT mesh well with some colors (like too dark or too light), and since they let you pick anything, it's a problem.

Will take a lot of experimentation to find the best skin, hair and eye colors, but there's definitely hope.

Also this game's animations and rendering in terms of characters, is far below the standards set by other games, so when I say good, I mean within the game's average quality. I also don't think it's a deal breaker as apparently the writing and game itself are pretty decent, and we are lacking space operas goodness among all those fantasy RPG :D . Seems good enough.

I was thinking I'd just go with the default looks for the twins, but seeing Slaythe's creations has me pretty excited now.
