Tetsuya Takahashi: I would want a 3rd Xenoblade to be more like the first again

Would be there day 1 if the 3rd Xenoblade is more story focussed. It's the reason I haven't bought Xenoblade 2, while the original Xenoblade is my third favourite RPG of all time.

EDIT - I'd also prefer if they ditched the MMO combat and went with action combat or turn based combat.

Yes.

Of course it's possible, Nintendo and Namco are not rival companies, you know.

I mean, Namco developed freaking Smash brothers! Can't Nintendo develop one of Namco's IPs?

Without derailing the topic too much

Why does Nintendo want to split profits on a sequel to a decade old series that afaik wrapped up.

Now if Nintendo wants to get Square to hook them up with the Xenogears rights and we can get Soraya Saga and Mitsuda on board for another chapter of the Xenogears story Im all for that.

So...does this mean XCX has less of a plot than original Xenoblade? It's not like Xenoblade had a ridiculously heavy Xenosaga levels of focus on plot anyway. This just makes XCX sound really barren plot-wise.

We need Xenogears - we need to remind why that game was so amazing story-wise, and why it needs proper battle system and proper second disc.

2nd disc was great. Balanced out with the dungeons and high encounter rate of the 1st disc nicely. By the time you get to the 2nd disc, the plot amps up (since it's the main star of the game anyway) and gets served to you front and center. Even if it wasn't intentional, I wouldn't have it any other way.

I agree that the game would have been slightly improved if the main character had voiced phrases for the options you selected for him/her during conversations. There might be pragmatic reasons why this isn't the case since they shifted to the avatar in the middle of development. The MC is chatty in battle but silent otherwise.

They wouldn't have even had to be voiced - a few text-only phrases written like dialogue instead of as vague commands (like Fallout pre-4) for those choices could have given the avatar more presence.

I'd say the expressionless face of the Avatar plays a role in why it feels stale. The Avatar needs more emotion!

Yes, please! The first Xenoblade was memorable for its story and large world. When I heard that the story of XCX was not that good I was very disappointed and I'm cautious of purchasing it.

I'd love it if they did a direct sequel too Xenoblade Chronicles and explored what the consequences are of the ending and that they decide too travel into unknown territories too see if there is other places that they might have had a been affected.

I'd eat the sequel up regardless though, loved Xenoblade Chronicles and loving X so far. I see little that Monolith can do wrong.

I like what he's saying.I much prefer a strong story, which the original had.Not to say the new one is bad,its just not as good as the original.

First, I didn't say it was a good business idea. I just said it's possible.

Second, the split depends on their contract. Why would Nintendo split Smash Bros profits with Namco? Or even put Sonic there and give some money to Sega? It's for them to decide if their deals are worthwhile.

Whenever he gets asked this question in an interview, it sounds like Takahashi has no idea what he wants to do and just replies "Well fans didn't like XXXX about my previous game so I'll make my next project more YYYY instead".

Combine them and make the story like Xenogears please.

Do Xenogears Episodes 1-6 like your original plan was. Please.

I'm not really interested otherwise. It's fine that people want expansive, addictive worlds and takahashi is happy to give that to them. But the real strength in monolith is the writing talent, despite the missteps that have been made.

If i recall, he said something similar before cross. I'm guessing nintendo is dictating that he games be approached in this fashion and we'll either see more games like cross or nothing at all.

Playing through chronicles for the first time now.

Whatever you make, I'll play, Takahashi-san. He's right though, a typical story-driven JRPG would be nice.

The only MMO I ever played was FFXIV but even after that Xenoblade combat still remains one of my favorite ones
followed by the one of FFXII, god I love that game so much...

idk, I could like something akin to Dragons Dogma or Monster Hunter since it lends so well to their monsters designs but after seeing how they improved combat in XenoX with the classes, targeting of body parts, long and short range weapons, the inclusion of more options to position playable characters and Skell combat I can't say I would like that they strayed away from it...

Anyway, I would play anything they make since they already nailed how to make a lush and interesting world to traverse and explore.

... and also please keep the Skells, Mecha, Dolls... pleasE!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh

it just sold me on sniper class

So wait...is XCX not story driven? If so, I may return my CE.

The story is built around the world and affinity quests aswell as the main story, to get all of the story you need to do as many affinity quests as you can, normal quests aer recommended aswell tho not as much, its all about character development in affinity quests.
