If anybody else wants avatars made, let us know.

I was the first $250 backer. Might upgrade to $500 at a later stage if the stretch goals improve. I'm not sure how great the photo levels are going to be with over 1,600 photo spots available amongst the various tiers. I guess they'll randomise which ones appear in the game or something. Perhaps have a telephone directory of images so you can pull up your own too.

Hmm, actually, that does sound tempting!

Am I the only one that thinks this kickstarter is surprisingly lacking quite a bit of details and content?

Especially considering how long it's been in the works.

The video has more info than the text and they'll probably add more as time goes on. These guys have always been exceptionally brief on the Big Finish site and so on, so I'm not totally surprised. Very happy to see it off to such a great start, though.

Indeed. For a high profile Kickstarter announced weeks in advance it is pretty bare bones.

I agree, I wish it was more detailed. Was kinda surprised it was kind of skimpy.

Still, MUST HAVE.

I wish I had unlimited funds, the $10K tier sounds like fun.

Most of the work seems to have gone into the video...which seemingly uses a lot of the technology from the games (green screen).

For the new page, here's the fedora again for anyone wanting to Texify their avatar. If you don't have the skills, post in the thread (preferably with a link to a larger version of your avatar) and I'll give it go when I get some time (and I'm sure we'll have other helpers too).

Hope the $100 option is a nice old school big box with manual and stuff, will wait until we learn more but cant wait!
Man, you just reminded me about the boxes for the old games. They were pretty well done. Overseer even had a flashing LED built into the box!

By the looks of it they spent all their time producing the video, which was pretty amusing.

But I am unfamiliar with the Tex Murphy series. I have never played any of them, so I am not sure if I would pledge to this one.

Impressive video that gives me a good feeling about their ability to make a fun game. But I would really like to be more convinced that only $450 000 is enough for this, and all the pledge rewards.

Considering how cheap you can get the on GOG you should really do yourself a gaming favor and go for it.

Backed it for $15
I hope this starts rolling quickly,
I have a feeling that it's not taking off as the Wasteland 2 or Double Fine Kickstarters.

There's no way this is approaching 3m like those. Which should have been obvious from the get-go :p.

I think it has a good chance of making its goal though.

I would be pretty astonished if that was the case.
We are talking about a far less popular, way older and long forgotten franchise.

Yes, I know that technically Wasteland 2 should be considered even older, but it actually appealed to the Fallout fanbase quite a lot.

Updated the OP.
So far going pretty nice. I doubt it will reach huge numbers, but it shouldn't have problems getting it's goal and plenty of extra left. I hope at least :)

Don't forget they announced this date months ago, all the die hards will pledge today, it will be what they getting a few days from now that's important.

450k's a big ask, but I'll be contributing. That said, I think it'll have to be my last KS for a while unless something phenomenal (Holland/Kilham! Lori Ann Cole! Roberta Williams!) comes along.

Edit: Just noticed the GoG co-operation on the $150 tier. Good to see them getting involved.

Edit2: And the Big Finish stuff on an earlier tier. If nothing else, you'll get a shitload of games for this. Admittedly not worth close to what you pay for them, but that's not the point!

It really goes to slow imho...
I really thought this one was going to fly the first few hours and then settle to a slow pace.
Reaching 1 to 1.5 mil...
I might have to adjust my expectations.

750 bucks for the signed fedora? I was willing to pay $150 tops :(

This is going to shit all over the Republique Kickstarter in terms of numbers. 800k is my final guess.

Tex isn't that big of a franchise, and most people have never played a good FMV game.

They will more then likely get their minimum and an nice bit more but 1.5 mil is a bit unrealistic.

600k to 800k is my guess.

Double Fine and Wasteland were anomalies being the first big gaming Kickstarters everybody rallied behind.

For more realistic expectations on where this might end, the Sierra nostalgia Kickstarters might be good indicators.

The Leisure Suit Larry remake ended at 650k.
Jane Jensen's adventure(s) will probably end around 400k, maybe slightly below that.
The "new Space Quest game" has stalled a bit at the moment, but I hope they get to 600k maybe.

It's a bit depressing that they all have no shot of raising a million dollars or more, but in the end, let's keep in mind that this is the adventure genre and the whole Kickstarter phenomenon has yet to deliver games before some people lose their reservations.

Well it's the middle of the night - looks like it started at midnight on the 15th.

I'm not sure the Jensen project is a good indicator. I took a look at their Kickstarter page earlier, the reward tiers are convoluted as fuck and apparently they didn't even know what project they were going to do at the start of it, letting people vote for 1 of 3 potential candidates? None of which was the project people wanted to see, a new Gabriel Knight game, which is now apparently happening seperately and is drawing interest away from the game they're Kickstarting. As someone who hasn't been following it, their Kickstarter campaign looks very poorly thought out and I can imagine that's depressing contributions.

As for Tex Murphy, that video they've put together looks janky as hell but I've kicked in $15 anyway. I do agree the earlier Kickstarters had an advantage, I think the days of my kicking in $100+ sums as I did with Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun Returns are over unless the physical rewards really justify it.

The Kickstarter was for 'funding development for a year'. The game or games that were produced by that development were the rewards for that funding.

(Fun fact: while DFA was established as funding 'an adventure', it had even less established concept than Pinkerton's; we're only now finding out the basic premise of the game)

It does seem like 'funding development for a year' is something of a confusing concept for many, and perhaps isolating a specific product at the outset would have been wise - but on the other hand, letting the people who fund development decide the *nature* of the product being developed seems like a reasonable thing.

None of which was the project people wanted to see, a new Gabriel Knight game, which is now apparently happening seperately and is drawing interest away from the game they're Kickstarting.

We don't know that. We know that there's a Mystery Game X on the cards, which *will* be given to people who pitched in at appropriate levels. It *may* be GK, and I certainly hope it is - Jane's been pursuing the rights for a long time - but that's not actually set in stone.

Really?
Maybe of putting for people who don't know what Tex is but if you do I think it's one of the better pitch videos.
Janky in the sense that it looks like something shot for a FMV game in the 90s. Which no doubt was the intent. However I would hope the new game will not also feature FMV that looks like it was shot in the 90s.

Edit: Having watched it a second time, at the proper highest resolution, it's not nearly as janky as I first thought although the backgrounds do look too close to the actor in some cases. In any event, it's definitely better than 90s FMV.

For a game that we don't know is Gabriel Knight, they sure seem to spend a lot of time talking about Gabriel Knight on their page. Which, again, i find odd given that's not the game that's being Kickstarted there. Anyway, I digress.

I pledged 115$ :) Same as with Jane's project.

And wow...Aaron Conners's aging seems to be limited to gray hair.

Well, that's her most recogized game and now mentioning it makes sense, because Moebius is essentially a spiritual successor to Gabriel Knight.
But yeah, I think her KS would go much better if she started with Moebius from day 1. Oh well, despite blunders it reached it's goal and she got publishing deal for 2nd game, so it all ended up good :)

Yeah, its unfortunately mutated into something very messy which can only harm it (no joke, there are PDF breakdowns and 3rd party visualizers in the comments just to make head or tail out of it. You can imagine the hilarity that ensues when a mistake is discovered).

However in almost all of the new additional tiers, they were just trying to add more flexibility in the rewards to backers based on feedback. I wouldn't be surprised if they handle it much more differently next season (
GK4, GM2, LB3 =P
)

Will wait until I see more updates, but definitely agree the page is rather light on info. However, its only day 1, and hopefully they will be even more forthcoming in the days ahead.

That was my first thought. If you're gonna ask for half a million you're gonna have to provide me with a project description, not just a product description. The way it is now they could suddenly spring stuff like "oh hey this 450 is for marketing, for actual production of the game we'll pitch to publishers for A GAJILLION bucks" on you.

I'm kind of not ok with that. Will pledge when stuff's sorted out.

I went from a different source image as the background of your current one is a bit hard to duplicate:
texventure.jpg

If you want it to be greyed out a bit like the current one, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I can also dutch it (rotate to match the rotation in yours).

Edit: And I think I prefer that first one, but here's the other hat styles:
texventure2.jpg
texventure3.jpg
I like the first one the best too, but they're all amazing! Maybe I'll put them in a rotation. Regardless, thank you! So awesome!
Kickstarter is literally going to bankrupt me and I couldn't be happier!

If you have any interest in point & click adventure games they're well worth playing. I played through them earlier this year and I really liked them.

This is the one I was waiting for. All the "big" names are involved so... I'm in for at least $30. Probably going to up that later.

The gog reward makes a lot of sense. Not only you can give people something right away, but since gog now carries new releases, the relation can go beyond kickstarter and into the released final product. Only problem is the people that already have all the games over there.
