Thai king walking around shopping mall in a crop top.

I was actually due to travel to Thailand a couple of months ago and the trip got put on hold because of all of this. Apparently there are factions that are for and against this king and if things are left to themselves there's potential for civil division.

couldn't be bothered making a new thread.

There is a video of him walking around a shopping mall..

apparently thailand has a king which I wasn't aware of, secondly it seems the people of thailand didn't even know they had a king lmao.

Nah, the people of Thailand are well aware. The previous king, Bhumibol Adulyadej, was adored by the people, and Thailand has some of the most stringent lèse-majesté laws for a constitutional monarchy in the world.

Vajiralongkorn, however, is not very well liked.

nobody seemed phased by him walking around like they didn't know who he was.

Because there are lot of stories that the current one is kind of a dick.

The previous king was well loved by the Thai people. I knew some Thai people and if you did something like step on a coin or bill that had his face on it (the feet is disrespectful in Thai culture, it would be a huge insult to step on someone or walk over their stuff), it was like spitting in their face.

The people of Thailand are well aware that they have a king.

It is just that they are still in mourning for the one who recently died, and are unfamiliar with the new one.

Trust me, Thailand know they have a king. Bangkok has billboards commemorating the previous king up all over the place. There is also an all day line to pay respects to him at the Royal Palace.

Yep. Hell, you can't watch a movie without seeing photos of him, or photos of him and his late father. This video must be old, right? He's not walking around with the tats showing anymore. And he wasn't exactly a popular figure like his father before. So it isn't exactly crazy that he wouldn't be recognized (though obviously the person taking the video recognized him...).
Doubtful this video could be recreated now.

Kinda. If you go to any Thai cinema they will push the royal family into your face.

But they did some massive photoshop work on the current guy and depict him alongside Bhumibol as much as possible as if saying: "Hey you loved our previous king right? Love this guy too!"

Yep, the ones at Major cinemas are really pushing the handoff with those photos. Also, the resolution on them is awful. Hurts my eyes.

He seems like the more down to earth of the two though. How is he in interviews and has he been a jerk to people? Or just a bit of an oddity in personality and just a bit silly :).

In case of the latter, congratulations Thailand, you'll soon join the world stage in awesomesauce! :). Imagine that guy vs Duterte if he is the latter ;).

In the case of the former, sorry man.

Well, from that other thread that got bumped:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1294273

In contrast to his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, whose death ends a 70-year reign, the playboy prince has a reputation among his soon-to-be subjects for bizarre behavior, womanizing and cruelty to his many wives.

Taking a page from Caligula, Vajiralongkorn named his favorite pet, a poodle named Foo Foo, as an air marshal.

Srirasmi has split from the prince after being booted from the Royal Palace in December. In a show of his cruelty, he recently allowed her parents to be thrown in prison for 2¹/₂ years for “royal defamation.”

His earlier two marriages were equally rocky. During his first — to his cousin — he allegedly fathered five kids with a mistress, then married the mistress. Later he dumped her, forcing her to flee the country.

Is no one going to mention hte music in that video? It's like it's the pinnacle of some b-list movie.

"Colonel, I've spotted the Thai king. He's wearing a crop top."

"Excellent Snake. Now use your camera to take video of the Thai king, and upload it to the internet. When the world sees this, they'll laugh their asses off."
