Thanos CGI is the best of all time

I still think Davy Jones is better. Thanos still felt "fake-ish" to me, very good fake, but still fake fake. Davy Jones felt real.

I never once bought him as being real.

Some of the dinosaurs in Prehistoric Planet though. God damn I had a hard time buying they weren't puppets

Thanos looks fake. The best CGI fits into a scene seamlessly and is indecipherable from live action.

And District 9 did it better.

This is true but you won't be watching an alien on screen and not know that it's cgi.
Sure, but it's more about the CGI not drawing attention to itself in a shot.
Ideally it's meant to be supplementary, helping to suspend disbelieve that much more.
I think too many directors today abuse CGI and use it as a crutch for spectacle, which tends to have the opposite effect and breaks the immersion imo.

Funnily enough, it's one of the reasons why the quality of practical effects in films like Alien are so timeless compared to how CGI is often applied in most films today.

Davy Jones is best CGI character.

But as people said there is also other great CGI that we don't notice as it's that good but it's not comparable versus making imaginary species and characters

If you're definition of great CGI when it comes to characters is that they appear lifelike and completely believable alongside their human counterparts, and are able to extract actual empathy from the audience, then this is the greatest:

Heavily disagree with Gollum, for the time he was amazing but go back and watch the films, he stands out a lot now. Planet of the Apes is amazing visually for sure, I'd put it right behind Dave Jones.

All depends on what you think good CGI should be. For me, it's when you forget it's CG, and suspend your disbelief completely, because of the talent and the performance/cinematography on display.

Thanos in a nutshell. He was awesome.

Other films can't compare, anyone who dis agrees, i'll suit up and come fight me.

(I'm taking the piss)

Don't know if it's the best but this scene always stuck with me, swapping in the CGI Optimus truck when he's shadowed is smart, and bonecrusher going through the bus looked great

I thought these two were real life twins. Thank god it was CG. Imagine not one but two vagina eating cannibals.

Fantasy wise it's still easily Davey Jones. Realism wise it's all the set decoration and scenery in Zodiac.

Thanos looks like a scrotum.

to be fair that was 2001 movie. I give it a pass

The directing was the worst part here.
I get they couldn't get it to look better at a time but then just have him be in the shadows, make the scene darker or at very least don't zoom in on his face.

But they really wanted to show that it's the Rock.

The whole scene where Neytiri saves and holds jake. I have watched it so many times, looking for the tiniest imperfection, and cant find any. The scene just looks completely real.
