Thanos CGI is the best of all time

ya or have a droid pilot a ship to lightspeed into it. then you dont even need to have one person (from your side) die.

Is that good resource management for Rebels/resistance groups who usually don't have as much hardware as the opposing force?

Maybe not in all cases but in the case of the Deathstar I and II I would say yes absolutely.

I think higher resolutions has made it harder for CG to blend well. Lighting in modern movies is also a mess, so that also doesn't help things.

I still think Davy Jones is better. Thanos still felt "fake-ish" to me, very good fake, but still fake fake. Davy Jones felt real.

Yep. Watching this i couldn't tell if it was CGI or practical. It looked too real for CGI but too complex and perfect for practical.

Thanos looks like your average CGI character.

Davy Jones is exceptional, still holds up today.

what about some young Arnold?

"The biggest challenge for MPC’s team was the creation of the iconic 1984 Arnold digital character, for a 1-1 recreation of scenes from the original Terminator movie and a brutal showdown between young and old at the LA Observatory."

and digital Paul Walker

Any films which bring dead actors with CGI is in poor taste, regardless of their role and how good the final product looks. They aren't around to give their permission.

Paul Walker looked uncanny in some scenes, even if it's a lifelike digital version, you could pick up where it wasn't a human being.

the last few planet of the apes are pretty special, especially the last one.

For the various Planet of the Apes movies, Weta Digital were able to up the ante and refine their process, as the sequels went on.

The next film is called "The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes". Weta again is doing the VFX.

"On 3 December 2019, it was reported that Wes Ball is currently set to write and direct an untitled Planet of the Apes film. On 17 February 2020, it was reported that the film will be produced by Joe Hartwick Jr. and David Starke. Later that same day, Ball confirmed that he would be directing the film, and that it would be set after the events of War, following "Caesar's legacy". On 26 May 2020, Ball revealed that Josh Friedman will write the screenplay, while Jaffa and Silver will return as producers. He also said that, while the film will be set in the same universe as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the film won't be a direct sequel to War, saying that the film "will feel" like a follow-up to the overall Rise trilogy, but at the same time, the filmmakers will "do some really cool new stuff" for the film. In a March 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell stated that production would start between the late summer or early fall of 2022. In June 2022, filming was expected to begin in August, while Owen Teague was cast in the lead role the following month. "

This scene blew me away in theatres. Beautiful shot. Star Wars still shits on most movies when it comes to special effects. Sequel trilogy had some great work
this scene is fucking stupid. not only does it destroy canon, its some static assets duplicated multiple times with debris its not particularly impressive. all it manages to do is have a flashy scene for toddlers to clap at.

In the Light of the Jedi novel, there are objects travelling at light speed that are wrecking shit in a star system. I haven't finished the Novel yet so I don't know what the objects are yet. Please don't spoil it for me if you know.

But if you are saying it breaks cannon, you have to remember the old cannon was literally the 6 movies. The old EU novels and comics aren't and never were cannon. Does The Last Jedi specifically break anything from the original 6 films? If it breaks current cannon, can you please point to where this happens?

Thanos I thought looked like a very generic CGI character - purple boxy male with no hair. He did not stand out to me at all. I'll go with Davy Jones because obviously he's not real but they made him look so real!

Also I know most don't like the movie, but 2012 always impressed me visually:

It was the best disaster movie ever with some amazing scenes

What’s the best disaster movie?
The best?

Well in my opinion:
Towering Inferno
Poseidon Adventure
Day After Tomorrow
Twister
Dante's Inferno
Deepwater Horizon

All better than 2012. Titanic is probably classed as the best disaster movie, but I'm not a fan

I personally don't see alien invasion, post apocalypse or zombie movies as disaster movies so that counts out Independence Day, Train to Busan, Wandering Earth, The Road etc.

Oh, and honourable mentions to The Wave, Geostorm, Greenland, The Core, Gravity, The Perfect Storm (if you could class that as one), Daylight, even Armageddon.

The whole scene where Neytiri saves and holds jake. I have watched it so many times, looking for the tiniest imperfection, and cant find any. The scene just looks completely real.
The hairs on the left kinda look like videogames hairs...kinda static and funny looking.

But it could just be the gif format.
