I'm hoping to get mine worked out soon - I lost my entire hard drive, music and all, so that kinda threw a kink into things. I've got a burn I made for someone when it was still a work in progress, so I might end up posting that.

Just so you guys know, this is probably going to be the last Gaming-Age Mix Exchange - we're tightening up some parts of the TOS and regrettably, the Mix Exchange, at least in this form, has to go. Don't freak out though, we'll work something out - it just won't be as open :/

I for the most part have Buddy C's mix, I'll see if I can get that online for you guys, some highly enjoyable stuff on it.

Alright, here we go. There's a few tracks I had to sacrifice because iTunes is being difficult and won't play my protected tracks, but meh.

14 - Only A Lad - Oingo Boingo
15 - Frances the Mute (The BuddyC Edit) - The Mars Volta

Some background on the title:

Twisp & Catsby refers to this Penny Arcade comic. The entire mix began as something I did for work one afternoon, just trying to bring good upbeat songs into the kitchen. It continually evolved from there. So the whole point here is just to have fun. It might not be the most obscure mix on the board, but I hope it's among the more entertaining. Enjoy.

Dune Buggy's Mix 1 review:

Coldplay - Clocks
: I've never been a big fan of Coldplay, but I can't deny that this is one hell of a catchy song. Enjoyable.
Chris Cornell & Maynard James Keenan - (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding: Not quite what I was expecting. Pretty basic song, not quite the most interesting music or concept behind the song. It's okay, not much more.
Michael Hutchence - The Passenger: Nothing particular I didn't like about it, just couldn't quite get into it.
Mike Doughty - Move On: To quote the song, "dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb". Actually, this wasn't too bad, but it was just too easy to insult it like that, I couldn't pass it up. Basic song, but decent.
The Finn Brothers - Disembodied Voices: I like the vocal harmonies. Is that mandolin? If it is: pretty good.
Neil Young - Down By The River: Great chorus, great backup vocals, really add to it. Neil Young is pretty dang skippy. A tad too long.
South - Loosen Your Hold: I liked it before the symphony came in, had a good acoustic feel, liked it when it went back to mostly acoustic. The chorus is the downfall of the song for me.
Oasis - Wonderwall: I'm only partial to Oasis, but this is a great song.
Travis - Writing To Reach You I'm a fan of Travis, haven't heard this song, but it's as good as the other Travis I have heard. Enjoyable.
Jimmy Eat World - Lucky Denver Mint: Basic song, nothing too interesting, decent though, I could listen to it and not object.
Depeche Mode - Dream On: I really liked this song when it came out, still do. Nice groove to it.
Audioslave - Give: Not a fan of Audioslave. Kinda neat guitar on it though.
Beck - Already Dead: One of my favorite songs from the cd. Great song.
The Presidents of the United States of America - Boll Weevil: Kinda fun, but not that great. Decent.
Chingón - Malagueña Salerosa: What movie is this song in? Sounds very familiar. Kinda an odd choice for your mix, but it's decent.
Anthrax - I'm the Man: It was on your song list, but I didn't get it with the mix. Dunno what happened. Not a big Antrax fan, so it might be better this way.

An okay mix all together, flowed well in parts, some not so well. Had a good acoustic feel to it for a while.

1. I've Got Your Number- Elbow like the song, especially the guitar in the middle
2. Magazine Called Sunset- Wilco slow, even for Wilco. good song though, fits.
3. Suddenly Everything Has Changed- Flaming Lips yup, that's the lips. I keep hearing that their earlier stuff is much more diff. from the new stuff, is that true?
4. Gale Blow- The Fiery Furnaces man I really like this song. I'm going to have to find some other stuff by them.
5. Prophet 15- Supergrass not bad considering the last song I heard by them was "Pumping on Your Stereo".
6. On Your Way- The Album Leaf kinda slow but a good move from the last track.
7. Chinese Baby- Clem Snide I dunno, this one is a little too slow. if I was a feeling a little more mellow I'd like it more. mood has a lot to do with my musical enjoyment.
8. My Home is the Sea- Bonnie Prince Billy heh, funny little song. not bad. especially like the playing in the second half of the song, very excellent.
9. Strangelight- Fugazi I saw Phantom Planet this past summer and they played a Fugazi song. I mention this because it was the first Fugazi song I'd ever heard. This song is pretty good, like it more than some of their other stuff.
10. On Your Wings- Iron & Wine I get a lot of stuff from this band on mixes, maybe I will look into them as they seem to be pretty good.
11. Skin Is, My- Andrew Bird goddamn good song.
12. Forcefield- Beck a good song but coming after the previous one...it loses something.

good mix, though it loses a point or two for making me want to go buy a cd! (Andrew Bird) :)

01 - Laugh and Peace - Vib Ribbon lol, funny song to start with. I need this game.
02 - Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz love this song, very fun to listen to.
03 - Dare - Gorillaz this sounds like another song I've heard, I've been trying to figure it out since the album was released but I can't figure it out. good song though.
04 - Your Cover's Blown - Belle & Sebastain a toe-tapping song, very nice. I like it, even the 70's feel. sounds like a White Stripes song near the middle...The Hardest Button to Button, I think?
05 - Que' Onda Guero - Beck love this album. You need to find the surround mix of the album, it's just freakin' awesome.
PM me with an address.
06 - Jellycones - The Unicorns nice, really like this one.
07 - The Man Comes Around - Johnny Cash never wrote/song/covered a bad song. but a happy song? where do you work, a morgue? :) my fav song on American IV.
08 - Monday - Wilco just checked and it is from the being there album, sounded like it. Great album (even if I don't know song titles :/)
09 - End of Love - Clem Snide kind of a Wilco vibe here, not bad. good song.
10 - The Rat - The Walkmen not bad, def. liking it. gonna have to track more of this down.
11 - Kim's Watermelon Gun - The Flaming Lips weird song, plus it sounds nothing like their newer stuff. what happened to the band?
12 - Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) - The Arcade Fire kinda like their stuff, need to hear more though as (Tunnels) is a very weird song and this one is OK.
13 - Little Girl - Death From Above 1979 keep hearing about these guys, first time I've heard them. not bad.
14 - Only A Lad - Oingo Boingo Danny Elfman is a god of music...his stuff is always good. free association moment - this actually sounds like an 80's race car video game theme song in the beginning
15 - Frances the Mute (The BuddyC Edit) - The Mars Volta so...is it just one song? there are definate breaks in the song and they seperate things that sound different. it's not bad, but not my favorite song on the mix.

overall a pretty good mix.

Thanks for the review! I'll be reposting it here in a bit for Hitman. If you're looking for a Fiery Furnaces album and like the craziness of that song, I'd suggest their album Blueberry Boat. Most of the songs are long and have a lot of different parts, like a bunch of songs packed into one. Their previous one, Gallowsbird's Bark, is less crazy but still good. The Flaming Lips have had a huge change in their music, going from punk to whatever the hell they are now. And yes, Andrew Bird is all kinds of awesome.

The only editing I did to this track was to remove the 4+ minutes of silence from the beginning. It's a b-side from the album of the same name, meant to be the "decoder" track that explains everything, kinda like a mini version of the album.

Thanks for the review and glad you dug most of it. I'll try to do yours after I get back from Canada.

edit: As for the Johnny Cash song, well, if you're not paying attention to the lyrics, it sounds pretty upbeat...
