Orioles acquire Garcia for DeJean
The Orioles announced today that they have acquired outfielder Karim Garcia from the New York Mets in exchange for right-handed relief pitcher Mike DeJean.
Garcia, 28, is batting .234 with 7 home runs and 22 RBI in 62 games for the Mets this season. He has played in 51 games, including 44 starts, in right field for the Mets.
A left-handed hitter, Garcia has batted .242 with 63 home runs and 201 RBI in parts of 10 major league seasons. He split last season between Cleveland and New York and batted .305 in 52 games with the Yankees. He had his best season with the Indians in 2002, hitting .299 with 16 home runs and 52 RBI in 51 games.
That is awesome. While Karim Garcia is by no means, a great player, he can be productive and Mike DeJean was just worthless shit. And considering the injuries to our outfield, including B.J. Surhoff and Jay Gibbons and the fact that Larry Bigbie and Luis Matos have played horribly, this is good.
This pretty much means that Larry Bigbie, Luis Matos, Brian Roberts and/or Jerry Hairston Jr. are on their way out, though.
