Silent Death

lemme get one or two licks
Does anyone here enjoy this show? It has got to be the best reality show ever, and the only reality show I have ever watched. Anyhow if you have the Game Show Network they are broadcasting reruns everyday starting with season one. It's something to tide you over until the next season family edition starts up.

I'm willing to go into the family one with an open mind. Amazing Race has evolved over the seasons much more than most reality shows (like the introduction of the much debated yield, the two part legs, the no-person-can-do-more-than-6-detours rule, the recent less predictable and less frequent non-elims.....I totally expected the bros. and the gay guys to be saved by them) and so I am willing to go with them to this new place. It is only a detour to be completed before the next season in the spring; it is no roadblock of oxen proportions to have us declare "My show is BROKEN! This is BULLSHIT", no matter how weird this season turns out. :D

Is the family edition the next season? I've been seeing CBS advertise that they're currently looking for teams of 2. So it's confused me on whether or not the family edition has been filmed already or if they're going to do another 2 team season before it.

Yahoo! I loved season one, but not so much the rest!

When are they playing them?

You missed season one. They started running the series I believe in mid June. They are now into season 3 or 4 I'm not sure. I'm sure they will show season one again after they cycle through the rest.

From what I'm hearing they have dumbed it down a lot. The first 4 or 5 stops have been on the east coast of the US and possibly one stop in eastern Canadia. Supposedly the producers are going for a summer camp feel to the season.
They were seen reenacting the Washingtons crossing the Potomic River, as well as seenn in a museam in DC.

Don't know where you live, but Season 1 is about half way through at 12:00 EST on GSN.

As a reality show, I like Amazing Race. As a GAME show, I think it sucks. Too many non-elimination rounds and too much bunching (allowing other contestants to catch up) to be considered a real race.

Phil (the host) rules, though.

Yeah I watched it for the first time this past season and agree with this statement. Its cool to see all the locations and different cultures. If I could do one reality show myself, this would be it.

Wow my bad this is season one they are showing. I could have swore that I didn't start watching the show till season 2 or 3 so when I recognized a few of the team members I thought it must have been one of those seasons.

Man I'm watching the end of season one and can't believe that black dude is blatantly sabotaging their winning. I'm like what the holy fuck this dude needs an asswhooping.

Also of note, folks: Season One is coming out on DVD later this summer. Some commentaries, plus the lost roadblock (An Eating task: so I guess it wasn't a later seasons phenomenon).

I have a bit of apprehension about the Family version as well, only because I'm sensing a bit of an Extreme Reality Show Makeover: Heartwarming Edition vibe from the entire process, especially based on the comments above and the general move for reality TV. It seems that they'll be trying to combine the reality part of the Race with education and emotional moments among families. Just how much of a race it is, really, will depend on how much they keep intact. I'm likely to continue watching, although my Tuesday nights are even more booked now that I got into House over the Summer, but with no cable, I'll watch Race.

In terms of the race itself, it's clearly rigged, and always has been. There has always been bunching, non-elimination legs and airport situations put into place to create a competitive race. It's manipulated as much as any other reality show, but that doesn't change that it has the sharpest editing, fantastic tasks and a general attention to detail that allows it to rise above all others.

Let's hope it makes it Three Emmys in a row in September.

Pretty young, but who knows? it might work out well. They should be able to keep up speed wise, plus it might mean two less people to squabble with.

The father going with his three daughter's husbands will probably be a good watch :D
