This actually made me remember all the times that my teachers would say this to me as a straight-faced compliment as I passed through my classes, comparing me to all the "ghetto" kids who were failing and burning out. Young me didn't even think about it and just accepted their apparent kindness.
Of course, looking back now... :/ I feel stupid.

You would probably be surprised at how a lot of your white teachers low key treated you compared to others just thinking about it.
I had a white teacher go as far as rocking Tim's to "relate" to her class and she was down with our black math teacher so she was instant cool.
Smh, we ain't know no better as yougins.

Feel free to watch the video and disagree but c'mon son. I had time to watch the video, do a second round of groceries, and post my responses to you. You got guys prepping for orgies but still taking the time to make a thread but you don't have enough time to watch a video?
Also because of anime avatars and white supremacists I changed my avatar from one of the few Black characters in Naruto. .it was a sad day when an avatar I've been using for years felt tainted.

Black characters are few and far between in anime/manga, but when they show, they're always appreciated. Case in point, one of the few good things about Bleach;
I remember being back in the Bleach and there were was always arguments of about her race.

Does Akuma count as yandere? Because his secret crush Ryu is pretty anime.

I do think idolization of western centric features is a real issue and something I think she be touched on more in terms of character design. On that opposite end, I think something else, which popped up in walking dead threads time and again, is the desire for people to claim folks who don't fall under their preconcived notions of what a race looks like in fiction to call those characters white. Suggesting in some regard " characters who are _______ must look like this" , not understanding that its more of a specrum.
I got that criticism during my thesis, or rather about it. I was Doing this concept art for thing that I want to do something with later in my life, they didn't think a character looked black enough? It was a strange thing to hear, because drew and registered them as a black character but they had in their mind what a more " black " character would look like. It wasn't say " diverse enough for them" it through me for a bit of a loop and I simply responded with. " He looks black to me". but it was a strange situation.
