The CDX is so great.

Best console design ever. Don't argue, you know I'm right. :)

Just got one through eBay, even got the 3 CDs that came with it. And I even managed to snag a brand new, sealed copies of Hook, and Brutal Paws of Fury for a pretty low price. Anybody remember BPoF? Probably only a handful. :lol

But yeah, just sharing the joy. Any other Sega CD titles you guys recommend?

Get Snatcher, Sonic CD, Final Fight CD, Eternal Champions CD, Lunar 1 and 2, Lords of Thunder (not as good as the Duo version but pretty awesome none the less), and Silpheed.

mmmm, k

Well, we know who's common sense of design is way freaking off. Even taking in the time frame it was released, it sucks for a console design. Plus its Sega, so it had no chance.

You know what they say, the beauty of the console is in its games.

The Genesis 2 was the next best looking thing out there during those days, IMO. What else was there? The SNES(meh)? Mini-SNES wasn't out yet, I don't think. CDX is so small compared to the others... Ah~, it sits so comfotably next to my monitor.

Only thing I don't like about it's design is the placement of the A/V Input. And that's a minor gripe. :)

I got mine for $60 bucks on ebay a few years ago.

I use it as a discman everyday with my Sonic the Hedghog 2 cartridge sticking out. It's awesome!

Foreshadowing the Dreamcast a bit.

This is the design the Revolution should use.

Yeah...I see that. For me, its always been reminiscent of the Saturn's final design...right down to the cartirdge input in the back.

A shrunk down Saturn in CDX casing would be like the best thing ever. Really. :)

It is tasty. I really ought to get one since my Sega CD1 has never worked right, and now it's just plain given up. I think it'd help my Robo Aleste disc hostage for about four years now.

I grabbed one a few years ago for like $50, brand new.
Plays Genesis carts, Sega CDs, audio CDs, and also works with the 32x (though it looks pretty silly with it attached).

Add Popful Mail to that list and take away Silpheed (never liked it that much on Sega CD, but it's aged BADLY anyway)

Adventures of Batman And Robin is pretty fun, too. It's all driving levels, and has an entire episode of Batman The Animated Series made just for the game as well.

I don't play my CDX anymore nowadays though, since with a modded Xbox you can play the original Sega CD games on the system with a much better picture. Genesis and Sega CD games look great in 480P.

I forgot about Batman and Robin....also Wonderdog!

And Silpheed still rocks.

I've never liked Silpheed on Sega CD; I had the Apple IIgs Silpheed in the late 80s and thought it was a MUCH better game. It had actual 3D backdrops instead of that stupid FMV playing in the background, too, and better music.

And then came Silpheed The Lost Planet for PS2, which I thought was utter garbage. Hard to believe Treasure had anything to do with it, let alone Game Arts and Capcom (published it in Japan).

But remember Jim, Sega said you shouldn't hook up a 32X to the CDX.

Best hook up is 32X with Genesis with Sega CD with Sonic and Knuckles.

Ah, yes. The CD-X is great becuase as any former Sega CD/Genesis owner knows...those two systems can take up a LOT of space. CD-X does a teriffic jjob in that regard. A very compact system. My ONLY complaint is that the RF connector is mounted on the side, so I can't put it right next to my other systems.

I never use it for a portable CD player(Well, I don't really listen to CDs anymore...all MP3s these days) because I'd rather not risk breaking it.

A very good design by Sega, that was probably released too late in the Genesis' life-span.

It's not just when the system was released, but also the price. I think it debuted at $399.99.

It came with "6 games" on CD, yeah. :P We got some OLD Genesis games on one CD, then Ecco and Sonic CD, which at that point were a couple of years old. Not good enough, sorry.

Looking it up, the games were...

-Sonic CD
-Ecco the Dolphin CD
-Sega Classics 5-in-1 (Columns, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Super Monaco GP & The Revenge Shinobi)

..both Sonic and Ecco were under a year old when CDX released in 1994 though. I think there might've been some other apps included but I'm not sure.

I wasn't serious when I said I used it as a cd player. Dear god that would look foolish.

Eh, the ads were funny, but CDX looked incredibly bland to me. Give me the objectively-ugly-but-awe-inspiring Genny2/SCD2/32X combo any day :)

One of the sexiest consoles ever! I had a tg-16 with CD rom and super system card growing up. Sold it on ebay for a buttload. Then bought a TurboDuo a couple years later. ITs always hooked to my TV.

I have one with about 30 or so games I'm willing to sell!

It looked great and really high tech back then however the controller ports were a disaster. The CDX also doubles as a personal cd player (has a compartment for two AA batteries.)

As did I. I also had the Turbo Express. :)

I liked the Spiderman game (vs. the Kingpin? Been a long time since I played it). Bad cartoon scenes, but the game was pretty good. Heart of the Alien, Eye of the Beholder, Keio Flying Squadron, and Robo Aleste were some other games I enjoyed on Sega CD.

There's a Multimega in my local games store that needs a purchase but at ÂŁ150 it's not gonna happen...

Didn't CDXs have problems with the memory or something? (And I know heat issues.) I remembered hearing about how games like Jurassic Park for the Sega CD would crash in it. (Not a huge loss, but hey.)

That's like saying a Porsche rules, but you'll stick to your ghetto-ass Kia.

'Cept in this case, the ghetto-ass Kia looks, runs, and sounds better. :P

unfortunately I broke mine :(

Ha ha, I think mine is about the same size even...

Hey where in the world did you find a Sega CD emulator? Back when I was emulating games I looked EVERYWHERE for one and could never find one. Let alone Sonic CD.

And is cheaper....I used to sell Kias and about to do it again. :) They sell like hotcakes.

You could just buy Sega's official PC port (emulator?) of Sonic CD, which is cheap as dirt...

NO. I actually own this version in addition to the original Sega CD version. Terrible TERRIBLE port. In fact, I don't even think XP will like it much at all. There is much more loading (no matter your PC speed), it doesn't scroll as smoothly as it should, and it requires you to be in 256 color mode to even start. Using emulators will net you much better image quality and flawless emulation. The emulators run these games better than the original hardware...

Use GENs or Fusion. You'll need BIOS images for both.

I've never noticed before, but that looks a lot like the PStwo.

Wha? No it doesn't. The actual layout is pretty much the same, but the design is very different.

I bought a CDX when they were new, and justified the high price by thinking I would use it as a portable CD player. never really did, but I did play the heck out of the 5 old games that came on one CD. Pretty good value, that.
