I find the whole concept of "recognize that pop culture reference" as entertainment to be completely devoid of any entertainment value. So ever since the first Waynes Brothers movie where they were like "Look we're copying movie A" or "Look now we're copying movie B" it's seemed sad and desperate. Kinda like the guy everyone knows who constantly recites lines from famous movies for attention.

Meme perpetrators are even more sad. It's just like when a child makes her parents laugh for a moment then continues doing the same thing over and over hoping to continue receiving praise long after it's become annoying.

How dare you compare Blazing Saddles to Waynes Brothers movies? They aren't even in the same solar system, much less the same league. Spoofs have been around for ages, but they used to be filled with jokes, satire and actual comedy. Now they are filled with "Oh look, this character has the same outfit on as another character in a popular movie. I recognize that line of dialogue, so I guess I should laugh now."

The Waynes movies have killed the concept of spoofing a genre with their desperation and lack of creativity. In my earlier post I wasn't suggesting that they invented it. Only that they had destroyed it.

Well obviously Blazing Saddles was mentioned as an example of doing it "right". If you think of it, this video is a true testament to just how big these internet memes have gotten. It is now a way for people to make actual money. Gone are the days when only nerds see it, my Grandmother knows about the double rainbow guy. Hopefully it doesn't bother you too much because you are going to keep seeing it again and again. A couple days ago Jennifer Aniston was in a very similar video. We are in uncharted territory.
